I'm sure it would have been done on a field mod level as necessary repairs if the original was out of service, but wouldn't they have just kept the US ones until they broke? Good points all around. I do wonder how often it would have a Russian sight and if an American sight would be the better choice from a historical perspective.
While we're on about the P-39... it would really benefit from having a skin upgrade too I think. Especially to accommodate the different theaters and markings it would wear. The later P-39N and Q models did see a little use with the USAAF in the Med and elsewhere and it would be nice to have default "stars and bars" markings.
