Nice. Think we should bug it?
I have one of these and I can confirm it works when equipped. It's only gone off once, but it gives you a nice little pop-up. I was pleasantly surprised and expected no message whatsoever and was memorizing my rune count.
Not sure if it works when unequipped... I'm too hungry for runes to take it off. =)
