You seem to be forgetting something.
If you release an open beta and follow that with a bunch of other beta files every other day while at the same time expecting people who know
nothing at all about computers, archives, files, game structure etc etc. etc. to submit detailed bug reports (and those people are included because of the open beta idea I think), you would do better to release
any newer beta with it's own installer. This installer should make a backup of files that get replaced and an easy way for people to switch back. It should also check the integrity of the download.
It would be nice if the installer had a report feature collecting the needed system data and integrating it into a bug report. That would give a standard which would be easier to handle for the dev. team.
Doing otherwise is inviting disaster imho.
Just an observation.
