I know what you mean. Dores really hit on something there with that combination of colour and composition.

I like the way he kept the planes largely silhouetted and at a believable distance from the camera. I have no idea what he did with the colours though. The first picture looks like it's got some kind of accidentally-overexposed-film-type effect on the left and right, and the second looks like it might have a camera-lens vignetting effect, while both are slightly blurred and seem to have an old film-stock quality to the colours. To my eyes they're excellent examples of how post-processing effects can be used to create a more believable illusion of realism.

Not forgetting of course that these images are also built upon the work of the artists at Maddox Games, who provided the base assets that we then get to manipulate and play with.
