This wont happen. A single, new generation card has never out classed two cards of its predecessor in SLI / Crossfire.

If you were to get two 580's now you most likely wouldn't need to upgrade for another 2 or 3 generations. Even today, two 480's in SLI are very close to two 580's in SLI.

Unless of course you're worried about the 5% difference in frame rates.

I used to be an early adopter of new graphics cards ever since the 9800GTX, but no longer. The money I spent on upgrading year after year was not worth the 5% - 10% gain in frame rates. Just my opinion mind you
