As far as planes, the more (and bigger) cannons you have, then naturally the easier it should be to bring it down. Now having said that, I typically fly a Spit Mk II for a majority of missions and I too have impressive scores against them. Whatever you use, it comes down to tactics in the end. If you fly straight right on the tail, then you're going to be shot to heck a majority of the time. If you aim for the fuselage, then it will take forever to bring it down. ALWAYS aim for the engines when it comes to bombers, ESPECIALLY against that behemoth, lol!
My personal tactics are to fly right up to it from below keeping parallel with it as fast as possible, making adjustments as necessary to avoid incoming fire. Once I'm pretty close, I pull up hard aiming for the engines as I go, throttling back. I typically like to pull up over it, roll 180 and come back down inverted, again spraying the engines. If the person is controlling the guns themselves, this will make it very hard to track you since the gun sight movement in turret mode isn't all that fast. Just make sure you don't hang inverted too long or you'll be in trouble, lol! If that doesn't bring it down on the 1st pass, then I'll typically hang below it from that point on throttling up again until I can build up enough speed again for another run, all the while firing on the engines and weaving to keep my target from being too static. Another good one for a first pass is to try and coming in from the sides and strafe the wings. Whatever tactic you use, coming in headlong directly from the back will be suicide and so keep moving and again ALWAYS aim for those engines!
