I installed it via steam, and have found new items. So it definitely works there.
The new items, of those I've found, don't seem to be 'too good'. There are a couple awesome ones, but there were awesome items before, and the ratio hasn't seemed to increase ridiculously.
Sadly, I'm about to finish a playthrough with them, and haven't managed to construct any of the 'super' items
