Convair B-36 "Peacemaker"..... the piston engines suffered from overheating pronlems because of the pusher arrangement.
The jets were to assist take off and climbing to altitude when burdened with maximum payload. Once at the desired altitude they were shut down to conserve fuel.
The aircraft had two seperate fule systems for each engine type.
Some carried a Lockheed Goblin in tests or F-84 as a "parasite fighter" during the Korean War.
