Can you leave the grey wasteland?

IS it possible to leave the wastelan without going to the death valley? I want to go back to Darion to get some better troops. Is there a way out of here?

just go back to the elven land and go back to the ship which will take u back;-)

There is a book of death in both the Grey Wasteland and Death Valley. So you do not have to re-enter Death Valley to go to the elven lands. Note that both books are guarded on the elven side.
