Will Variable Wind Direction and Strength be Moddelled in Sow?

Hi all,

This topic is perhaps not exciting to many combat simmers but was very important to WW2 aircrew:!:

In il2, wind is not modelled. Yes, we have 'storm wind' but in all other settings, wind is not modelled.

Wind strength and direction is a vital factor in navigation. And these factors vary in flight.

In il2, you can set a heading toward your target or base and will always arrive overhead. In real life this would not happen unless the weather was totally calm.

I am of course talking about Dead Reckoning Navigation basics.

A pilot or navigator in WW2 would be given the anticipated wind strength and direction before take off to make his heading calculations. And in flight, he would have to apply the effects of the change in wind strength and direction to his heading.

Will the wind strength and direction be a factor in SoW?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

(And I spelt 'Modelled' in my header wrongly...the shame!).

Best Regards,
MB_Avro.

How about wake turbulence?

i was watching something and a 51 flew in front of a crippled B24 and sent it into the deck so i ould love prop wash

How about the AI? In every sim I've seen, the AI aircraft fly as if wind does not exist.

More detailed atmospheric modelling in general would be very nice I think. It'd be cool if you could have the ups and downs by mountains etc also...
But they should at least do variable wind and direction, in different layers at different altitudes.

It was already stated that we will have realistic weather and turbulences in BoB. IIRC it was also said, that clouds are directly affected by it. Propwash will also be included IIRC.

Q: Is the wind direction in BoB always the same? Is there wind at altitude?
A: There will be various winds during the flight time. Even more than you may imagine.

O.M.: Feel of the flying will not change much. We think that in IL-2 physics are close to reality, so you can correct all you want, general feeling will not change. Simply we`ll add more details. Engine of BOB has nothing in common with engine of IL-2, it`s even written in the different language. We are modeling that only wind, but many other things, for example: thermal up-streams and different cloud effect..

;)

Very nice!!
Thx Falke! :)

As Feuerfalke says, this is going to happen.
Actually, I think this is one of the major improvements of SoW engine, compared to IL-2's and a huge bet for Oleg and his team.

Yes I'd guess it takes alot of time and effort to get these things right. I'm very glad to read those quotes in Falke's post, time will to what extent they've gone with it :)

It will be interesting to see how this sim will "feel" on a force feed back stick.
