Bf109 Advice

OK, New year - new plane for MP... A Bf109 E3 for starters but I know sweet nothing about these fab ac, particularly the weapons and belting.

1. From the threads I have read the ideal power band for these ac is at 2400 RPM but the prop pitch lever seems to have to be 'jiggled' to change the prop pitch. Is that correct as it seems to require a lot of 'jiggling'?

2. Any advice regards the weapons load outs (MG's and cannons) and convergence setting for the wing mounted guns would also be welcome.

3. Bombs, this is what I really want to have a crack at using in MP for the ground targets and there are two types available so any advice on this aspect will be also welcome.

Thanks......

You have to push and hold like real life.

Depends on your style, nose mounted doesn't matter so much, try 200 or 300. For cannons I go for 100. Its a bit boss eyed but its only for close range in my own oppionon and style. Belt loading depends on what you want to shoot down. I like incendiaries

Either four 50Kg SC or one big fat lady 250 Kg SC. Dont forget to set the fuse for you kind of bombing, there are two fuse menu's just to make it more complicated. Use low level or dive bomb. If dive bombing come in nice and steep and aim between the two bumps that are the nose MG's, not the gunsight....

Hope that helps. :-P

Thanks Farber, not sure about the diferent ammo types as they are in German but the main problem I have is setting the 103B to carry bombs using the loadouts menu and also not exceeding the weight limit with anything more than two bombs even though I reduce the fuel load....

I will plod on regardless.......me thinks I will have to set up various practice missions using FMB and stick to the default bomb load.

Just because the number is in the red dont let it kidd you, you just need a longer take off. 65-75% fuel should let you fly for 25 mins each way and fight for 10 mins or so...

I notice you can engage an Afterburner (there does not appear to be a cockpit switch for this - menu controlled only). I can enable it but not disable it - is that correct and is the Afterburner similar to WEP and only used for a limited time?

Im not aware of any model of the Bf109 before the Bf109E7 having any sort of boast- MW50 or GM1. So I dont know wether the boost is correct or how it was implemented...

It's just a short period where higher RPM is allowed. There's no boost or anything involved I thought.

The 109's 'extended throttle' is only active for 60 seconds I believe.

I believe the spit and hurri had a simular system where they could "push through" a wax seal on the throttle and over rev.... I do not know when this was implemented or which models.

Check your PM's.

Correct, it's menu controlled only and all it is - it gives you extra boost (MFP) for 60 seconds. It is called Afterburner (silly translation I guess) but what the 109s had in RL was a one minute Start- und Notleistung (Take-off and Emergency power) that was giving you 1.42 rather than 1.35 ata for limited amount of time. Nothing to do with RPM.

In game, you can engage it and it will disengage itself after one minute (Afterburner: off). Wait 15 seconds, rinse and repeat. Totally unhistorical obviously.

Struggling with the gunnery on the Bfs E3/4 (not the sight placement problem).

1. What was/is the default convergence on these ac? No value entered/indicated in the weapons menu - just lists 'default'.

2. It is a 105m sight ring (same as the Spit/Hurris)?
