FPS affected when “restarting” or when exiting and then beginning a new flight.

Running CoD at:
3840x1024 (1280 x 3 screens)
Building detail: High
Land detail: High
Forest : Low
Texture qual.: Orginal
Buildings: Low
Shading: Low

Haven’t found this issue mentioned anywhere but hoping someone might have some insight into the problem described below.

During my tweaking to find best performance, I have noticed a huge drop in FPS when “restarting” a flight or when exiting and then beginning a new flight. I think I see it too when ALT tabbing out to desktop. It is intermittent, but happens more often than not, it seems. Closing the game and reloading seems to consistently bring the FPS back up again.

I am using free flight over England (no clouds) and normally get 70-90 FPS up high where plane starts and 50-60 at ground level. At the times when the FPS drop occurs, it is as much as a 50% decrease down from 80 to about 40 FPS. Monitoring the GPU’s shows that both are ramped up to performance clock speeds and both are being used at around 50%. Still see some stutters at times regardless of whether FPS is 80 or 30.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

P.S. This is an awsome game and is far advanced from it's older brothers; Forgotten battles, Pacific fighters and 1946. I can't get enough of the "complex engine mangement"!

Thanks
Mike

I have noticed this too - FPS drops on restarting a flight, but when i quit and restart, the FPS back up to normal. Sometimes seems a bit random, but the fix is always to quit out, then restart. I think a few others have mentioned this in other posts.

I agree that quiting and restarting usually brings the FPS back up. It is very fortunate that my load times for COD are much, much shorter than previous IL2 games.

This is over my expertise level with computers, but I remember either Forgotten Battles or Pacfic Fighters and other games for that matter, having what was termed a "memory leak" that reportedly caused drops in FPS during game play that worsened in relation to time played. Not quite the same symptom but wonder if could be related.

Same here. It is rule of thumb for me. Always restart the game after every mission.
Edit:
I forgot to mention that I also clear the cache.
