ATI Catalyst HELP... newbie here.
Please bear with me - I am new to ClOD and am desperately trying to optimize my graphics settings but am failing to understand how I should be coordinating the catalyst and in game settings: Please tell me if any of the following is set stupid.
My rig = ATI 6970 2GB/8GB ram/i7 2600K @3.4GHz/Win7 64Bit Catalyst settings AA: Override application settings - Morphological 8X Standard Filter AF: Use Application settings Tessellation: Use Application settings Catalyst AI: Tex filter High Quality - Enabled Surface format optimization Wait for verticle refresh: On, unless app specifies. AA Mode: Adaptive Multi-sample AA Open GL: Triple buff unchecked. In GAME Settings: Resolution: 1920x 1200 60MHz Fullscreen on Custom detail Model detail high Buildings detail Very high Land detail high Forest very high Visual effects High Texture quality Original AnitAliasing Off antiEpilepsy Off SSAO Off VSYNC Off Decals High Buildings amount medium Land Shading High Grass on Shadows on roads on Thanks so much for your help! :) |
How does the game run for you on these settings? For me (with a similar system) I would find your settings a little ambitious. I might turn building detail down to medium but up buildings amount to unlimited. I leave the Catalyst settings as default, for me AA does not seem to make much difference above 2x. I also find it beneficial to reduce the resolution and refresh rate in order to turn the video settings up.
On line I tend to turn trees off to lessen the occurance of the missing sound bug in mp, this is not always necessary though and whilst the trees are a special fly-through-without-consequence variety they do add to the eye candy for me. Good luck :) |
Set AA to "Use Application settings" and turn on AA in the game menu to 2X. Like previously stated over 2X doesn't make a difference.
The game's own AA is always better to run than the cards. Uncheck Morph as this blur all text too. Tessellation is not in effect yet so might as well turn it off. Vertical Refresh (V-sync) is only interesting if you see tearing. Otherwise turn it off both CC and in game menu. Set Buildings amount to Unlimited and if you're short on frames then turn down building details and uncheck grass. Btw, is important to run game in same res as your monitors native res. This will give best clarity. |
Thanks guys - the game was running OK in terms of how it was set before your recommendations but it did Stutter. I'll try these tips and report back.
How would I know if tesselation is working/implemented or not - did the devs say? Buildings to unlimited seems counterintuitive? |

Buildings to Unlimited will load buildings further away from you so they don't pop up around you...if u understand what I mean. Minor effect on frames. Building details however is another thing which will give better frames to no real quality loss. If you want to get a big chunk of frames then I suggest turning down Land shading from High to Medium. The quality loss is there but not so apparent and is a good tradeoff if frames are low. |
Btw keep us updated. Many in here have been tweaking this game and our machines since 31 march.
You know, there's a track called The Black Death that we kinda use as a benchmark thingy. If u run it from start to finish and tell us your min/avg/max we can tell you if your system is performing as expected. |
Just remembered. The mirror is defuncked so you can turn it off and gain 5-10 more frames (hit M).
|
thanks Vengeanze - the mirror is off - I am finding documentation for the sim woefully sparse :)
How do i bring up the FPS counter and where do i find the Black Death track? |
Don't know if it's default but I got my console mapped to "z".
If it doesn't work for you then check key assignment for Console something. When you activate the console you will see white overlayed text to the left on the screen. The game (if offline) will pause. In the console type "fps START SHOW" without the quotes. To remove the counter and reset it, open console and type "fps STOP HIDE" without the quotes. You'll find the Black Death track by clicking EXTRA > TRACKS (in the game menu) and then select it and load. Writing from memory so hope it's correct. |
i heard a rumor today from a buddy at another sim site that there are issues with ATI graphics and that disabling the Epilepsy splash screen works well to optimize frames.
