That "Hurrpedo" video seems ridiculous, but....
I think most of us saw this video, and thought it was pretty silly:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1s4xGXzVrY But imagine my surprise while watching episode 16 of the BBC's great series "the Century of Flight," and they showed footage of early steam catapult tests for carrier take-offs in which they were using scrapped planes without pilots. Well one of these old planes they were launching (I think it was a Seafire) was missing at least half both wings, and it flew quite a long way with no pilot and only at take-off speed. If I can manage it I will upload the clip to youtube and post later. Seeing that I have no doubt that the Hurrpedo very likely would "fly" at high speeds. |
