IL 2 COD Roadmap?

Is there a roadmap for upcoming releases?

Hopefully the new series will have the same lifecycle as the first!

Until a few weeks after the release you better ask for their burn rate.;)
If it turns out to be a cash cow, which we all hope, then you should ask for a roadmap.

If the COD sells well enough the developers hope to do addons thru all the theaters of WW2, finally amassing more maps and aircraft than the original series. It may even cumulate into a combined forces sim. (Luthier's Group) were doing a Korean map, but they have been delayed helping Oleg complete COD so their development will take quite sometime to complete.

There is another third party apparently developing Battle for Moscow with the new IL-2 engine.

It has been rumored for quite sometime that Oleg's next theater will be in the Mediterranean, but the comment from Luthier stating the divulging of Oleg's next project will raise a few eyebrows, leads me to think its something other than the Mediterranean. Although I suppose a Malta scenario may still be an option as the map size would not be that great considering the fps issues arising with the new code, regarding big maps and large amount of objects. Also Malta's battle's used most of the aircraft already modeled for the Battle of Britain.

Any ideas of what sort of unit sales will make them pleased?

Ah, the community is what has kept the original IL2 alive, so thats good news and should boost IL2 COD sales, yes?

Not aware of Luthier's quote, what was it?

Thanks for all your input its appreciated. My clan seems to be pretty strongly behind IL2 COD, so we will try to be another drop in the bucket.

Cheers!

Luthier's said in a post a week or so ago that eyebrows will be raised when Oleg annouces his next addon to the series, but in their latest interview it sounds like Oleg is still leaning towards a Meditteraenen addon.

I have no idea what kind of sales COD will need to continue work on the series, but if the combat flight sim community buys the product, it should go along way in securing those funds. I think we will also start seeing far more marketing when the game goes gold in the next few weeks as then they will know exactly which features have made the initial release.

Thanks for getting me up to speed. Much appreciated.

Luthier has always been a bit hyperbolic in comparison to Oleg's chronic understatements.

Being an American he might also think that the Med is a shockingly unusual choice (similar to night-bombing) as they aren't raised with as much history from these parts of the war (especially the pre-1942 med). Similarly, I'm relatively attuned to carrier combat (with the exception of escort carriers on ASW and the Ark Royal).

I'd think that a SWPA theatre might raise quite a few eyebrows and a few "WTF, after all the troubles with NG aircraft!?!?!?" too. But having a go at Hawaii and Papua New Guinea with the new engine might be tempting. Who knows they've contacted NG in advance now and reached an agreement, or now know to circumvent the legal issues. ;)
