B-17G unlock - which planes count?
 

The unlock for the B-17G is to win 50 Strike matches with a bomber -- which planes qualify as bombers? Any plane with a bomb loadout? Or are specific planes classed as bombers?

Can I double up some of the work on these with other planes' unlocks, like the IL-2 and IL-2M ground kills, Ju 87 D-3 Strike wins, etc.? All have bomb loadouts but seem to be in the hybrid bomber/fighter category (pilot-controlled gunners with more than token bombs capacity).

You need to fly big bombers to unlock it. No il2/Junkers etc.

That is false. Ju87 and IL2/10 do indeed count. Anything that has a triangle on the map is a bomber.

I hope JU87's count! If they don't, i've been wasting time using it in hopes of someday getting the B-17 in strike missions.

Why wouldn't a JU87 count?

I think the only things that wouldn't count outside of bombers would be planes like the LA-7 or P-51/47's (with bombs) etc, that can acquire bombs, but aren't bombers but rather fighters that can carry bombs.

At least that's my understanding.

I myself did the mistake of flying the Il-2 to get the B-17and ended up getting the flying tank award and not the B-17 :evil:

I used Blenheim, Arado, and A-20 extensively.

yeah you are right kav. the only planes that count are: Arado, A 20, Blenhiem, HE 111, IL-4. But I do think the Stuka should be counted as a bomber.

I unlocked the B-17 after playing one of our group's organised fair strike matches. We had one Ju87D on each side the rest were fighters, I was flying my sides stuka. I didn't boost at all to get the b-17 so I was very suprised and pleased when it came up unlocked, it only took me 12+ months lol. SEE was there he'll remember it too.

So i'm sure the stuka counts. Maybe the Il2/10 planes don't count because you can fly them without bombs?

You might be right about the JU 87, but the IL-2 doesnt count.

I used the JU87 pre patch and got the B17. I list it in a Ylod at Christmas and have been using an Il2 to get it back so thanks for the heads up. I will drop into a Stuka or Blenheim from now on. I thought it was anything that showed as a triangle on the map as that's the bomber indicator
