Why will my guns on the bomber not fire online sometimes?
Damn this game is giving me fits online. I dont notice any lag but when im in the bomber as the gunner the guns will not fire half the time until the enemy is right on my ass. Whats up with that?????? :-x:-x:-x:-x:-x:-x

You can look almost anywhere in the bomber turret but the guns can only fire at certain angles. Usually only a narrow cone behind the bomber. The reticule changes when firing is enabled.

Being in the wrong place to fire is not my issue. The aircraft can be coming right up behinfd me and it still will not fire until i am engaged with fire from my attacker. It seems i have to be fired upon before i can fire. ???

which bomber are you talking about? I know some aircraft like the me 262 are very hard to hit from bombers but as previously stated most bombers have spots that are not protected by guns, were you firing the guns manually or letting the computer do it?

I've found from experience that it's best not to rely on auto gunners and switch to manual as soon as I suspect someone is closing on my six. This also enables you to be opening fire long before the auto ones would even consider firing. You stand a good chance of hitting them before they are within an effective range which in realistic means they won't get closer either (262's being the exception.....shadow, McQ!!!). In arcade it means that by the time they do close up they're already pretty beaten up and your in with a chance of downing them. Just my thoughts as a pretty hardcore bomber jock

When your gunner can fire, the crosshairs are bright, and when the crosshairs are out of the firing cone, they go dim.
Most bombers will not let you fire below the plane, except to about 4 or 8 o'clock low. You'll notice the crosshairs go dim if they're near the elevators or rudder. A smart fighter will approach these fighters from below or above, so you can't hit them unless you abandon your bombing run to maneuver. If you want a bomber that can fire nearly every direction, get the b-17. The BOP b-17 is more deadly than the real b-17's which had very limited ammunition, couldn't maneuver as well, and didn't have just one gunner controlling all the guns. With the b-17 you can fire almost directly below the plane via the waist gunner, you have a good field of fire in front of the plane, and above it too. The most significant blind spots are at 3 and 9 oclock. Once you've got a b-17, you can practice against my fighter 1 on 1 if you want, in sim, as long as you fly it like a bomber instead of dogfighting. Goes for anyone - I like to practice against b-17's. |
