Net connection problems

Hi Guys and girls

The last nights has been a hell playing BoP online.
The lag has been awful and the Mic-chat has been cracking up constantly.

The question is:
Is this my local network or is it PSN issues ?

My connection is 5000/700 in/out and should be ok for the purpose, or ?

Does anyone have the same issue ?

i have had similar problems, mainly due to the fact i use the ps3 internet browser which you need to clear cookies and cach from frequently as they seem to cause connection probelms.
Also it can depend on the time of day (locally) between 1800 and 2100 (or maybe 2200hrs) is peak time of internet usage i will not host a game during these hours; because i know i'm only getting a fraction of what i should recieve in bandwidth speed.
Then their may also be the issue of port forwarding in your internet router; Playstation network and il2 require certain ports within the hub to be made available to them, Portforwarding.com can give you a full instruction on how to set them up within your router

I have a wireless connection which the ps3 automaticaly hooked up on during the installation. Do I need to reconfigure this ?

did it say you have a nat type2 or type3, do a network test it will tell you your nat type and the speed you ps3 is currently recieving. If the network test tells you have upnp available your router should have set it up automatically. You internet speed are also affect by how many people are using it within your household: This is especially true of wireless connections

Checked setings, turned out to be:

NAT = 2
UPNP = N/A
Download = 3700 / Should be 5000
Upload = 520 / Should be 700

Question:
Do I need to change NAT and UPNP ?
And if so, how ?

Shadowcorp 03-18-2010 01:14 PM

to get your nat to type 2 you will have to do some port forwarding within your router, This can be done from the internet browser on your computer. I can't tell you exactly how to do it because i don't know what router you have etc.
However there is likley to be a walk through set of of instructions on Port forward.com for setting up playstation network ports on your model of router
First you will need to find out what ip address the router has assigned your ps3. As it will be for this ip address that the changes need applied to.

Heres the link good luck
But you have NAT type 2 and upnp is not available....... interesting.
KAV have you tried running your ps3 wired? I know when i ran my bluetooth headset and had my ps3 wireless i always came through garbled, so i switched to wired and now i'm only garbled when talking to several guys over the atlantic at once

What does UpNP do ?

Shadowcorp 03-18-2010 08:46 PM

it automatically detects and opens ports required for internet services being running on said device. So it does all your port forwarding for you.
