Battle of Britain memorial match PS3 - 15th September
Well, I was thinking on the way into work this morning that it would be really cool to have some sort of BoB themed match tomorrow night. Anyone interested? (this thread is for PS3 only by the way)
It will be a pain in the arse to get going unless we have some decent organisation, but if everyone sticks to the plan it should work. First we'll need to decide the game mode. Here's my proposals: Option 1: 8 vs 8 dogfight.. Spits and Hurri's vs 109E's (or is it F's?) This would be the simplest option, although we'd have to play on realistic due to the German pit's issue. Option 2: Strike 8 vs 8. Spits, Hurri's, Blenheims vs 109's, Stuka's and Heinkel's. This would be difficult to work, as we'd have to all agree to a set amount of bombers, although that could be done if we arranged it well enough on here. Players so far TEAM A (RAF): Rhah (voted realistic) BackedOut_ (voted realistic) Spitfire23 Edal86 QBLACKDEATHQ Wissam24 TEAM B (Luftwaffe): Seacat tagemandbagem. Robosled (possible) As for the actual match host, well I'd guess the only fair way to do it would be to host in the country with the most players. I'll volunteer if we decide to host in the UK. And i'd like to propose a start time of 8pm GMT. So, anyone want to sign up? Or does anyone have any ideas? |
I'd be up for it.
While I wont be an ace by any stretch come game time (Game is only getting shipped in here this morning.), I'd still be more than willing to fly with you guys should you need another player. I'm in Canada, but 8pm GMT still works out to 4pm here, which is a good time for me. I'd have no preference over what mode to play, or what plane to fly, so anything is fine with me. |
Ok, i've put you in under Luftwaffe for now, although once we've got a definite 16 we can change that if you want too.

Sim would be great, but it would be really unfair to the Luftwaffe... I'll go with the majority vote though, so if the Luft pilots are happy to play sim, then sim it shall be.
|
dont forget the 110! was beginning to think it had been left out of the game as i hadnt seen it all the way through the campaign but to my joy it is there!
|
Surely it would be unfair to the RAF players? As the Luftwaffe pilots are forced to use virtual cockpit, hence giving them greater all round visibility.
I'd love to take part, but 8GMT is 1pm here in Western Australia, and I'll be at work :( Would be great to hear some reports after the fact though. Such a pity this game doesn't have a picture / video editing mode. |
Actually, once i get the game i will host a bunch of these things on XBOX 360, i did a few with BLAZING ANGELS, it was like the last 16 player dogfight ever. Same idea as this one though, a BoB momorial. After that....it was all 1v1 and 4v4... :( the game died....
|
i've got an idea? why dont set up the match as it would've been in the War?
the excact same amount of numbers and Bombers? - same units and same planes? that's my opinion? besides, that would add an adition to the Historical issue we're having right now? and if you play it on SIM then it would be even greater? allthough, if im gonna enter, please do it in Arcade, since i'm getting killed every second! but Hey, thats what i'm thinking? Back to you Rhah. |
Day dependant but I would be in for the Brits. I'll be the one who's marrying their sweetheart onces the wars over.....
|
get people to host different difficulties..i'd be up for it..dont think im quite ready for full sim just yet.then report results on here
|
Not sure I follow you there mate... Do you mean that we should set it up with the same numbers as the real battle literally, or by ratio? (i'm guessing the later, as Bop is only 8 vs 8!).
I guess you could have 6 Heinkels and 2 109's vs 6 Hurri's and 2 spits, or something like that? Not sure if enough people would want to fly the Heinkels to get a match going though, unfortunately. As for the lack of pits problem, I always find it hard to fly without the proper pit in sim mode, as I lose my bearings very easily, which is why I listed it as a disadvantage. The fact that the RAF would have the choice would probably give them the edge IMO. And 110's are definitely in. I totally forgot they were in game (haven't unlocked it myself, as I've had sod all time to play the game lately :( ) And good idea to host for different difficulties.. but for that, we need more volunteers. Also, I'm planning on setting up the game tomorrow (Battle of Britain day in the UK). Can you make it Jareth? |

You set up the Game as much possible as you can. weahter, Planes, tactics, and all that comes across it you set it up. I have no idea on what the amount of rounds you can play online. my copy hasent arrived yet ( Damnit!) but the first round could be the classic way 5 HE-111's Bombers, 4 ME- 109's E's ( Emile) 4 Spirfire's MK.II and those who enter the Game later either join the Lufwaffe or the RAF? and those who won the dogfight can have the Bombers for them self - or continue the Flight to bomb the Target. |
Good plan, with one drawback... you can't join an MP game thats in progress. Also, once the round is finished, everyone gets kicked from the lobby and you have to restart the host from scratch :(
The only way to get it too work is too have 16 people that all agree to meet at a certain time, and all join the same server. Also, they have to be the sort of players that won't quit halfway through a match, and play by the agreed rules (sides, plane sets etc). All in all, its going to be a pain to set up, but it will be worth it if we can get it going. If we want to keep this game alive online, then we need to get the community going. Events like this are a good way to do that (IMO) |
i would be up for taking part, dont mind if its on RAF or Lufty
gamertag is m4jor h4v0k |

Gamertag is XBL isn' it? Are you on Xbox or PS3? I'm setting this one up for the PS3 players. (if only MS and Sony would let people cross-connect into online matches!!)
Anyone want to try and arrange something for the Xbox crowd? |
Me n HAV0K both play on 360 (I shouldve mensioned that before).

Maybe one of you guys should try and arrange an event sometime? I notice that there are lot of complaints from XBL users on here that they can't find matches. Best way to solve that is with a bit of organisation |
Quote:
and yeah, i cant try that? but i'm playing BF '43 at the moment. |
Great idea, I'm defiantly up for this. Hopefully we can get enough players.
I would rather play on realistic, and my PSN name is: BackedOut_ |

it aint i host all the time an it takes about 10-15 mins before i can start the game.if people reply in here with there gamertags ill try sortin it out
|
Does this site has another group of gamers who play in a clan, except VAS?
i'd like to join or create a XBX clan? |
Quote:
Then again, why not start your own? The more clans there are, the more competitiveness there will be online, and that can only be good for the community. |

thanks! anyone else?
I have no idea how to do so.... i never done it before? |
Oi! Stop spamming my thread!!
Seriously though, if you want to start a clan/squadron, you're best bet is too open a dedicated thread on the forum. More people will view it then. |
me neither tbh i always been invited into clans
|
sorry abt that...back to the B.O.B memorial

I just did that! |
this sounds interesting. i would prefer strike though because then each team respawns on its corresponding side of the map (DOVER).
Historically it was a 2:1 ratio benefiting the axis so it would be cool 10 vs 6. 1 german bomber only and 9 me 109s vs 6 RAF fighters. time limit 20 minutes. respawn time 15 seconds so that those who love to crash will think twice about it. limited fuel and ammo ofcourse. I would definitely prefer simulation. having to recognize the planes' silhouette would be fun. count me and QBLACKDEATHQ in on the RAF side. |
I'd be up for realistic, on the RAF
|
Unfortunately, I may have to back out due to yet another delay in my area. The retailer in my area says they still don't have it in, even though their computers say it's out in the 14th. I'm going to try around at different stores, but I'm not holding my breath. =(
|
Put me down for Luftwaffe, PSN : tagemandbagem.
I vote for sim as I hate the lock-on in arcade/realistic. Since we're playing British Vs German planes it makes it more realistic having to depend on silhouette/plane identification rather than the game telling you automatically. |

Alright, put me down for Sim too then :D
|
good idea, put my name down for RAF,
as im british wouldn't make sense being the Axis |

Kinda ironic, aint it? hehehehehehe :-P |
I'll try to get on if its in Sim mode. :) Those little red arrows are a bit too much of a disadvantage for sneaking up on the enemies in Realistic. Sim is really not as difficult as it seems, just takes a bit getting used to. After that, you'll never want to go back to Realistic. I thought Realistic was the best way to go until I got sucked into a few Sim games, now I'll never go back. I don't even have a HD TV! I can't even check my six right now with my Thrustmaster. ;) Sim is so much more satisfying.

l'd be up for this, -BUT- odds of me being ready for this are low, since l won't be able to get this until tmrw (in theroy) and probably have almost no skill yet.
|
Ok, i'll add all the latest volunteers on in a bit (just got into work, so have to work stuff first). Seems like the majority want to play on Sim, which is fine by me. Looks like we'll need some more Luftwaffles though.
I think the easiest way to do this is for everyone on the final list to send me a friend request on the PSN later today. If you all make sure you're online at 8pm GMT, then i'll set the room up and invite you all. Everyone cool with that? |
Yep that doesn't sound too bad, except the sim part. I'm playing with the PS3 controller so it's going to be difficult for me. Can anyone give me any tips? That would be really helpful. :)
And is there any chance of playing some Airfields? I've really gotten into it recently, it's so fun! |

Also, check out the post by pedrothegoat on this forum regarding sim flying. There's some good tactical advice in there. As for tonight's BoB match, its looking like it will be a no go, as we really need to have a full house to make it work. I'm still going to set up a pre-41 sim match though, so if anyone wants to join in please feel free. |

20:00 GMT it is. see you there |
This looks like a massacre. Six against three, possibly two.
I thought us Germans were supposed to have the numerical advantage. |
I'm more than happy to switch sides if it'll get the match going!

For anyone joining now, it's being hosted by QBlackdeathQ
|
I lost connection and now, obviously, can't rejoin. :-x
|
Tagemandbagem?
|
Truly awesome guys!

Good to hear people (on the RAF side at least. Can't speak for the Luft's) using comms to good effect. Only problem was that it was impossible to know who was calling for assistance! |
Agreed, that is something that should be implemented....certainly in the session screen, but also in game, something telling you who is talking.

I didn't think Miss Communication was a problem, I thought she was a lovely girl

Anyone up for a re match or something? |
Even call signs wouldn't help.... If I called out for help, with my callsign, you still wouldn't know where I was, unless I could give you a landmark or grid reference to follow, and in a hectic dogfight thats not always possible.
Maybe the dev's could allow player ID's to show up somewhere on screen when people are talking in realistic and arcade games. I don't think they should in Sim mode though, as it detracts from the realism. |

Mine would be; Red Leader One why? - i'm the Captaign of Elbe, and Red was the Color of the Axis? it all makes sence? |
