PS 3 Screen Tearing

If you have a ps3 and are not seeing the screen tearing when looking around the cockpit what is your ps3 set to output video at an what is your tv set at.

I'm pretty sure it is the demo. I hope the final is optimized better...

My PS3 is set to 1080p (the game probably outputs 720p only) my display is a Sony 26 inch LCD (KDL26 series 720p however it takes 1080p signal and converts it).
Get tearing once or twice early in the mission and then its gone.

This is the same as me except my screen size is 52" and tearing never stops.

What is the refresh rate of your display? 60 or 120Hz? Also the Bravia engine is constantly updated, so there are differences between generations and models too.
Also I just switched to component cable from HDMI recently, so now I'm not sure about the the output set to 1080p or 720p, I'll check tonight.

My tv is a 37" sanyo native at 720p and i'm getting none stop tearing. I play at 1080i and it tears at both resolutions. It's the demo. When I play the demo on my xbox 360 it is smooth as butter.

trk29 08-26-2009 09:23 PM

I am downloading a software update for my TV but by what other people have posted it's not my TV.

I don't think it has anything to do with the tv. I just hope the game is optimized for the retail release. Either way, it's only mildly annoying (something I can live with) and I'll be getting the game for PS3.

A 60hrtz hd tv will experience tearing because the of the tv. The refresh rate isn't fast enough to keep up with the frame rate and graphics in the game and this can create tearing. Now whether or not this is the case I can't say. I know my last Tv was a 50 inch HD with a refresh rat of 60 hrtz and I had tearing on it while playing certian games. Now I have a 60 inch with 120 hrtz and the tearing is not in the those games anymore. There are a 1 or 2 games I still have some small tearing in and I would say they are in the game and not from the tv. It could be either. But your Tv could be making it worse.

I stand partially corrected. LOL. ;)

Any idea why we would see it on the PS3 demo, while xbox'ers aren't seeing it at all?

Last night I took the spit up above the clouds and pointed the nose into the blue sky so there was nothing on my screen and it still tore. It looks the worst when the camera centers back on the cockpit. The canopy is tearing.

irrelevant 08-27-2009 03:35 PM

I see this, as well. It happens the most in cockpit view.

Hypoman 08-27-2009 07:08 PM

I'm sorry guys but it REALLY isn't your tv! It is programming... To keep the framerate up it is either slowdown or tearing. I am a PS3 owner and i always get pissed by screen tearing. A good friend of mine explained it all with a lot of technical yabber, but trust me it is NOT your tv, it is your PS3! Better said programming for the PS3 is still a big challenge.:|

And there was me thinking that my 50" was just the right size for this game, damn you trk29, now I'll have to sit closer to my screen to compete.

The best solution is to get an LCD projector. If anyone says there Tv is wider than your projection, just back it up!:-P

Haha I like it!

Is this tearing issue something that can be fixed with DLC? Or do you think it was just a demo issue and the full game will have this issue resolved?

Anton hasn't commented on it so we don't know.

Rufus_the_Rat 09-03-2009 04:58 AM

Screen tearing is generally a software issue, not a hardware one. A lot of console games on Xbox 360 and PS3 suffer from it and there's no way to enable v-sync like you can on a PC.
