PS3 Thrustmaster controls

Well, the demo's not out yet, and i think ill end up having to go to work before it does. So for you lucky SOB's that get to try it before i do, and you also own the Thrustmaster HOTAS, would you kindly post the controls here when you get a minute? Thanks!:o

Danny M NL 08-20-2009 02:30 PM

controls shouldn't be that hard... heck, even got my T-flight hotas to semi-work with BF1943 after some creative use of button mapping...

Jasta 6 08-20-2009 02:35 PM

Ya... i work a ten hour shift and get off at 1 am though... so i'd like to spend as little time as possible trying to figure them out tonite.:(

Danny M NL 08-20-2009 02:41 PM

will post a correction sheet here, if at all neccesary. It has already been confirmed that birds of prey is compatible with this joystick, so corrections might not be needed at all...

Jasta 6 08-20-2009 02:45 PM

Could be. i downloaded the hawx demo to try out the stick, and some of the buttons didnt match up with the ones displayed on screen, had to use the cheat sheet that comes with the stick. Thanks in advance!

Danny M NL 08-20-2009 06:06 PM

the demo already has the stick configuration set up, at the beginning you can choose between a gamepad, the aviator stick, and two different thrustmaster configurations. both the thrustmaster configurations work properly, but there are some differences which I haven't really looked at yet. what I can say is that for me the game plays best when turning the knob under stick all the way loose, and setting the ingame sensitivity 4 clicks short of maximum.

Irishmandkg 08-21-2009 12:28 AM

I don't really want to spend much on a ps3 flight stick. I am thinking of getting the T-Flight Stick X from Thrustmaster.

MakoCSH 08-21-2009 01:57 AM

Anybody tried the demo with the T-flight Hotas PS3 Stick yet? I just want to make sure it works well. I tried the demo with the gamepad and I can't stand it. Must get a stick. Unfortunately my old Saitek Cyborg Evo Pro didn't quite work (came close though).

Empi666 08-21-2009 02:34 AM

well, got the demo and just finished it on arcade.

Can't really fly the realistic or simulator modes cause I don't have a stick!

How popular is this game going to get unless people play it with sticks because it is awful with the gamepad! I can't see a lot of console gamers rushing out to get sticks for this game. What do you guys think?

The console seems too sensitive for flying. A lot of jerkey overshooting.

Right after I post this I am ordering a stick!

SeaCat 08-21-2009 02:42 AM

T-flight HOTAS works great! I haven't figured out how to use wingman commands with it yet, but I haven't really tried, either. It's quite comfortable and the buttons are all easy to reach. I like having the rudder paddles on the throttle, and the hatswitch works well enough (though I'm not sure you can peek over your shoulder, unless there's a button combination I'm not aware of). For $50, it's a steal.

Sweet! mine is on its way!

fuzzychickens 08-21-2009 06:27 AM

I can play it fine with gamepad in sim mode if I turn the sensitivity about half on the left stick. No problems shooting down bombers or fighters.

Still, I'll be getting a stick for sure.

I don't think the look-around function on the Thrustmaster works very well. Since the hat switch isn't analog you can only look up, down, left and right. I couldn't get it to look to the side and up, so there are blind spots at 3 and 9 o'clock high. Also, I could only look directly abeam to either side. There doesn't seem to be any way to look over your shoulder to check your 6.

Does anyone have the AV8R for PS3? I know the hat switch on it is analog. Are you able to look to 3 and 9 o'clock high or over your shoulder? For me this issue with the Thrustmaster is making me think I am going to return it and get the AV8R.

Hey this news is disappointing because I am going to buy one. I have the AV8R and the HAT switch works really good. You can look at 6:43 if you want:-P

Total free movement.

Really? What game mode do you prefer? I would have thought that adding more stick resistance would be better for sim mode, instead of making it looser?

I really want the Thrustmaster for its hotas but i dont want it to stop me looking around as freely.. i think ill get a thrustmaster and see where i go from there.

Anyway i though it was an 8way hatswitch?

It is an 8-way hat switch, but only four of the directions--left, right, up and down--work and when you move it left or right, is turns to 3 or 9 o'clock respectively and stops. It doesn't turn past 90 degrees.

Nice, this is what I have been asking about..... I order the stick and now it comes out that the hat switch doesn't work....ha ha.

Whatever.....

GhillieGuy93 08-21-2009 06:58 PM

ARGH!!! this stick palava is costing me buying this game.

i like the game, but the P-51 mission seems too hard. Sim is fun but nearly impossible to shoot fighters (or even see them) esp. without stick :/

now to the Stick, it seems Thrustmaster OWNS AV8R (or so it seems) and because i want a cheap stick seeing as i might get bored of this game (MW2 soon guys) so it came down to buying the game with the Thrustmaster X. or not buying it.

the HOTAS seems too much, and now i am wondering if the regular one will do the job and make it that much easier, and can anyone just tell me how it works without HOTAS, as in speed etc.?

thanks, Ghillie

Agreed. I am thinking about getting the t-X as well. I won't get bored of this game seeing that it has 50 missions.

I have turned it one full rotation up now, but only to get some more feeling for the airraft. the problem I had is that if you pull the stick towards you slightly nothing happens, and when pulled only a slight amount further the plane would immediately move too much... managed to fix this though, now the only problem I have is that the game responds too heavily on the rudder switch.. no option of turning this down... this makes it hard to align properly behind a bomber. but now I'm getting used to it and it doesn't bother me that much anymore...

I did it. I have both sticks so I can compare them on the PS3....

there should be a small dial, near where the stick attaches to the base on the left side.

GhillieGuy93 08-23-2009 05:36 PM

thanks mate :)

A lot better.... that's the only thrusmater's weak point. But weak enough to make me play with the aviator.

Alot better ? What is it ? Press a button, and the stick works as the look ?

No, there is an analogical dedicated stick on the aviator. With it you can look around really smoothly and everywhere (10, 1, 5, 7 o'clock, above etc...) without pushing any button.

On the thrustmaster you can only look at 12 o'clock high and at 3 and 9 o'clock.
