Landing?

I just landed in Simulator mode at the start of the Dover mission and my engine has turned itself off. Problem is I can't turn it back on again and fly off? Is this supposed to happen?

Maybe your props struck the ground and killed the engine. I've done it like 30 times(on purpose of course!).:)

I think your right, I just had several more attempts, and hitting the props definately did it. I managed to land without killing the engine so I think that proves it. HOWEVER.... according to Anton, you explode if your plane is too damaged to take off again, why didn't I explode??

That happens sometimes and it will usually say you 'crash landed' and then the camera will zoom out. If it didn't, then you just got lucky.;)

Yeah no zoom out, just was sitting in the cockpit not going anywhere fast. (Except if I shot the guns I would manage to creep backwards!)

Yeah, that was a neat feature I also noticed the other day lol. As far the camera not zooming out, I guess you made one hell of a landing.

How did you manage to break your wing off and come to a stop anyway?

The_Goalie_94 08-10-2009 08:41 PM

Wow, that reminds me, i think this is the first game with a real dense forest. I landed and broke my wing off a tree in a forest, and was sitting their in the forest just admiring how real it actually looked.

Lucky...

The other day, I had broken my wing off on a tree and just spiraled only 10 meters above the ground for like 10 seconds until I hit a house. :-P

Explosion happens if you damaged plane too hard to take off and THEN get new damage.
For example, rip off wing and then damage prop.

Nice pictures, they really show how the landscape detail has been improved from the PC Il2s. The Alt at 450 thing is because the game measures altitude above sea level, not above the ground where you are.

0 on your altimeter is sea-level. Not all ground is at sea level!

It's not supposed to have a use on Tiger Hunt. It just shows your altitude over sea level like it does in a real WWII aircraft. Apart from that I never check my altitude when I do a strafing run - at least in this game you have enough visual information to see when you have to pull up.

I was wondering why that tree was getting bigger...

This seems like strange logic to me... If a rule was decided to be implemented in the game whereby anyone that is too damaged to carry on flying explodes, why did the developers decide that sustaining *new* damage when reaching the ground was required to trigger this? I would have expected that just simple contact with the ground should = explosion in this case.

Of course it would make much more sense that if the damage sustained from the crash had affected the engine / fuel in some way that an explosion would occur, but if say the landing gear fell off, that shouldn't really trigger a bang. But I guess this goes back to the old argument over being able to ditch the plane...

Edit:
With this logic in mind, does that mean its actually entirely possible to ditch the unflyable plane without exploding as long as its a very smooth crash?? I think someone here posted a Belly Landing video in fact, I just assumed it was a flukey game bug that allowed it.

Please don't post your video in three threads, it has it's own thread.

Thanks

Thanks for posting a screen shot of the goals screen. I notice that Robert Johnson is one of the listed pilots. Is this a coincidence or what? Robert Johnson was, I believe, the second highest scoring ace for the US in WW2.

Well, I can confirm that you can crash without exploding.

In Sim Mode, in Tiger Hunt, while I was looking for the Tigers but desperate to find them, I decided to land in a small river, to smoke a cigarette and eat my sandwiches before going back to my Tiger hunt. Well, I finished in the trees undamaged but landed

I decided to take off, quiet difficult with a tree in front of me. The game finally decided that I was crashed and i had a Zoom out, the occasion to admire my shining Mustang from above which looks like a grey cross at the end of the zoom out :)

So you landed not crashed?

Patchou 08-20-2009 12:04 AM

Well I first landed. but I was blocked in the trees. (damned planes there is no reverse function)

When I attempted to take off using the WEP during, let say 3-5 sec, without really moving, It says that I was just "crashed".

But the plane didn't blew up and I didn't have the mention "crash landed" as others had.

EDIT: So yes I didn't crash
