Multiplayer Details and New Trailer
1C Company and 505 Games have today revealed more information on the multiplayer modes available in forthcoming World War II flight combat title, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. As well as boasting over 50 single player missions, the multiplayer experience featured in IL-2 delivers even more thrilling aerial combat action. IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey will be available from 4th September for Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS and PSP.
The official website now hosts the new multiplayer trailer where allied and axis forces go head to head in ferocious aerial dog fights and bombing raids over war torn Europe. Also featured is an exclusive community update from Pavel Kulikov, Game Designer of the multiplayer modes and maps at Gaijin Entertainment in which he shares some behind the scenes stories from the making of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey as well as tips to becoming a multiplayer ace. Details on the modes featured in the game are as follows: Dog Fight Dog fight is a traditional "free-for-all" mode. After selecting initial game settings (number of players, difficulty level, planes available, game play map, time limit, points limits etc) players engage in aerial dogfights earning points for every downed enemy aircraft. The winner is the first pilot to reach the point limit or the pilot with the most points when the allotted time runs out. Team Dog Fight After selecting initial settings, players are divided into two teams. Like Dog fight, points are earned for every downed aircraft in the enemy’s team. The winner is the team that reaches the point limit first or has the most points when the allotted time runs out. Strike Strike is a multiplayer mode where teams attempt to destroy as many of the enemy’s ground targets as possible, while defending their own. The winner is the team with either the most points when the timer runs out, the team that reaches the points limit first or the team who wipes out all of their opponent’s ground targets. Points are awarded for both aerial and ground targets, although ground targets are worth more points than those in the air. Capture the Airfield In Capture the Airfield, players attempt to capture and hold as many opposition airfields as possible. An airfield is considered captured once a player lands and spends a specified amount of time on the ground without being destroyed. All airfields in this mode being the game as neutral, so securing airfields quickly is crucial. Each team is granted a specified number of team tickets at the beginning of the game. Each time a player respawns, one team ticket is used up. Once a team has no tickets left, it cannot return to the battlefield. The team controlling the lowest number of airfields suffers a penalty of their ticket pool being depleted second by second. The bigger this disadvantage, the quicker the ticket pool is depleted. The winner is the team that has the most tickets left either at the end of the match or when an enemy team loses all tickets and planes. IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey gives you the chance to participate in the most famous confrontations of the era piloting fighters, battle planes or heavy bombers across a range of daring and action packed missions. There are 6 theatres of war to engage – The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily, the Battle of the Bulge and Korsun – representing the main airborne battles of World War II in Europe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKnl6jTAep0 |

Actually it's funny how the site automatically selected a language for me. Wow, I've been gone awhile, and I gotta say, the game looks and plays better than I expected by far. Simply awesome. I do hope we'll see some DLC and a sequel!

I can see only Russian version myself :( |

Anyway the update is great and it's nice to seem more planes added! |
Hey Nike can you sticky the questions to devs thread that Anton started please?
|

I still havn't figured out something:
I will we be able to fly bombers like the He-111 etc? If so will we be able to shif from pilots to different gunners positions? The multiplayer looks awsome!! |
Quote:
Yes. Anton answered the different gunner positions and now under the community button on il2game.com it says we can |

Thanks for posting that, Kryptonite, my computer is garbage as well, can barely load the page. :) I'm excited, looks like the game is shaping up to be just how I imagined it.
|
isn't there any cooperative mode for campaign or single missions?
I think that carefully planning a mission with your friends is the best way to live il-2 multiplayer... |
By the way, what's this all about?

When we just heard this in another thread: Quote:
I know it says "from 4th Sept" not "on 4th Sept" but you're not being clear and people read what they want to see. ;) If that date refers to come countries but not others, please specify all dates in the press releases. You're making things overly confusing, especially when several of us are trying to spread the word about the game and end up confusing more people in the process who do not visit this forum. So now we've got Sept 4, Sept 8 and Sept 15 in the mix. Please straighten this out for us. Thanks. |
I believe the date of 4th September refers to the release in Europe and Australia, while the US release date has been moved from the 15th to the 8th.
|
The reason we in Europe and Australia get it earlier is for extra realism and historical accuracy. Looking forward for you to join in on the action USA:grin:

i need MP gameplay footage.
Personally I need two things, a better joystick in the UK than the aviator, I dont have one but it sounds bad! Secondly I would like to see MP gameplay footage, the MP trailer shows nothing really!

The aviator certainly isn't great, but it's not bad for the money and a much better way to play this game than the controller. It's worth it.
Would rather have that TFlight the PS3 has, but this is still good enough. |
I'll prob have to get the aviator but I'm pretty good on the controller to be honest. Is it best to attach the aviator to something to keep it stable? Also does it have a throttle lever on it?

I did see a quick glimpse of an Italian Macchi. Couldn't tell if it was a Macchi 202 Folgore or a Macchi 205 Veltro? Only exterior difference is the air cleaner, and the only interior difference being the engines. (Macchi 202= DB 601 & Macchi 205= DB 605)

I'm a little confused about the multiplayer difficulty settings. From what I read around here, it seems like there is going to be a choice between arcade and sim. I'm wonderin' if anyone knows where realistic flyers like me are going to fit in. Are they going to stick us in with the sim people or am I going to be forced to play arcade with its jet engines and two hit kills? If anyone has any info on this I would really appreciate it.
|
No, all three of the default difficulty settings are definitely available, and hopefully they will be customisable like the difficulty settings in the older Il2s were.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm glad they remembered people like me who love the 3rd person view.

If this has been asked before, my bad.
I have a question about the online Sim Mode: How does enemy Plane spotting work? Spotting on sight, reveals details on the flight map for my squad buddys to see where the enemy is located? Or is there a information about the enemy player onscreen in the cockpit view. Like Player name and plane type. I hope that is not the case, i want to spot my enemy on sight and it would take away a lot of realism if enemy planes in the skys are flying around with some visible information (like in arcade mode right now). So how does this work in online play? Sim or a compromise between casual gaming an sim mode? |
I don't know. But it would not be fun if you don't know who you are gunning down, even in sim mode. I mean I want to know when I'm about to blast my friend out of the sky. How would that be solved without name tags?
|
Quote:
Other solution would be, only if you achive to down the plane, the name pops up as a info on the screen. like : +10 points killed 1337Kid |

I like the idea of names just where it said flaps and such. |
it could be where you see your wingmens names but not the enemy, that way avoiding the accidental shooting of a wingman and making you spot the enemy just by silhouette

Hi all. I've never played the IL2 series. I am more familiar with the old school Microsoft Combat flight sim. However, I just downloaded the demo for IL2 on the PSN and I agree with many on this forum that this might be the game I have been waiting for.
I have beaten the first mission and satisfied all primary and secondary objectives on simulator with the hud turned off. I do like to play as realistically as I can. My question with multiplayer is how the hell will we be able to spot, let alone define which side a plane is on? I have an HD tv and it wasnt hard on the Cliffs of Dover mission to spot planes, but the second mission in the Ardennes is giving me hell, which I imagine is what multiplayer will be like (mostly fighter aircraft in the air.) Finding the planes wasn't impossible, but tracking them for me was. Using the R3 button to look around is proving really difficult for me. I spot a plane but as soon as it zooms into a cloud bank or blends in with the ground, I can't find it again. I know in arcade this isn't an issue, but shouldn't there be some indicator in multiplayer sim mode to help us track planes? Before I get chewed out for not being hardcore, keep this in mind: If you were actually in a fighter, you would be able to crane your neck to look around much faster, and much more coordinated with flight controls. I am willing to bet using a joystick pressed firmly down to track your foes is a bit harder... |
I struggle quite a bit with the Ardennes map, as well. I spot planes, then lose them... time and time again. Not sure what the best solution will be, but I'm guessing MP voice chat will help because you have players on your squad looking around to help.
|
I found it hard at first aswell, im pretty close to my tv now.
But i slowly adapted my eyes and can spot enemy planes pretty fast and see if its a P-51 or not. |
Aye, to Sleeptrgt, I've done what he has done except it involves junkers and HE-111 in Dover. But theres that problem, there will be 40 or 50 or more planes in multiplayer, you'll have to know what each plane silliouhette looks like and know what planes are on your team, and hope the enemies don't have similar planes!
That just popped in my head, I know that in the Team games the teams are split up between Axis and Allies, I hope they don't let you bring a Mustang over to the Axis team! |
Quote:
Makes me wonder also how this is supposed to work in Multiplayer. Will i be able to pick which ever plane i want to fly, or do i have to choose the plane types available for each side? |
Well from what I can tell from what I've read, you get to customise your plane and how it looks and what guns it uses, but it doesn't say if you choose one plane before playing or you do all that before the match starts.

Mind you, I've occasionally found myself on the six of a friendly, in single player! If you fly with me, best keep me in front... actually... then I might think you're hostile! I can deal with whatever for now. As long as the cockpits turn up eventually, online Sim will be safe. |
