[REL] HD Cloud Improvement

I've retextured all the clouds in higher resolution, vastly improving the overall look of the gameworld.

High clouds resolution has been increased by 15x (minimal - no loss of performance)
Regular clouds resolution has been doubled from 512 x 1024 (minimal loss of performance)

These textures were tested on a moderately high-end machine, with no real performance issues on max-settings, I would not recommend using this texture pack on a machine that struggles with performance.

This will not work with the upcoming atag-patch, so I have removed the DL.

Regular cloud textures were not made by me, they came from here:

Please report back if you notice any issues, performance hits, or any suggestions for improvement. Thanks.

Amazing TheVino3 -3rd mod in no time!

I do think you need to have sfsMod v1.1 installed for this to work (at least my machine fails lo load the mod without sfsMod v1.1 installed) ;)

Cheers

Ah! Sorry ive made an error in my readme, dont just add -ImprovedClouds,
add -mod=ImprovedClouds
Sorry will edit the original post. That should work.

If you have it on steam, right click it and hit properties, then launch options, and add
-mod=ImprovedClouds

To make a regular shortcut, find your .exe file and right click, create shortcut, and add -mod=ImprovedClouds to your target line.

Does anyone know if we can use these fantastic mods along with the COD Windows 8 Loader? If so, any ideas how to activate the mods? Many thanks!

Bring on the first mod pack!

Screamadelica 12-23-2012 03:16 AM

Great work. Just one question as I am new to the whole mod install process, how do I add this to the steam launch options or target line on a normal shortcut? In fact what does this mean? Thanks for all your work, cheers! :)

Sven 12-23-2012 07:36 AM

I'm going to try this out! Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Can't seem to get it working just yet, I added the -mod=ImprovedClouds to steam target line though.

How would I enable 2 mods at once? What would the target line then be?

il_corleone 12-23-2012 09:11 AM

THanks for this impresive mod!

here is the instalation tutorial, first of all you need instaled the Kegetys.

afther that create a folder named for example ModedClouds

later, create a shortcut of launcher and type in parameters -mod=ModedClouds

this will do the trick, and thanks for this mod!

JG1_Wanderfalke 12-23-2012 10:06 AM

Ok so you do need it? I wasnt sure if it was needed or not. Ill put it in the main post.

A target line with more than one mod would look like this:

-mod=modx -mod=mody -mod=modz

and so on

Surely if you've increased the texture size then there must be some hit to fps? Can someoen report how these perform on lower end machines please?

In my own tests I didnt notice an fps drop, which indicates that it was small (as there obviously would have been some frames lost).
However, my pc is fairly capable of running this game comfortably on maximum settings, so my test alone is meaningless.

I, and others using the mod, would love to know how lower end machines handle this texture size increase, so please people: report back :)

Thanks for the quick reply, it all makes sense now! Let the modding frenzy continue! ;)

If you dont have kegetys sfsMod installed (link in original post), I think you need it for this to work. You dont need to use it, it just needs to be in your directory.

Make sure you have dropped the folder into the directory of your cliffs of dover, and not a subfolder accidentally or something like that. And make sure you didnt misspell it in your launch options.

I dropped this folder in there, and noticed that the clouds do not flicker anymore.

stndbfrgrn 01-04-2013 09:52 PM

Hi everyone,
Although I've successfully been able to run CloD with Windows 8 through the fixed .exe provided in another thread around here, I'm still unable to get any mods to work, since it's not Launcher.exe that it's been used to start the game, but the "fixed" one. I tried adding the -mod= etc. line to Steam's launch options, but it doesn't seem to work. I also tried by creating a shortcut to the new .exe and editing its target line, still without results. What should I do, any suggestion?
Thanks in advance!

TheVino3 01-10-2013 10:40 AM

Sorry, im not sure how to get things like this to work with a windows 8 fixed version - i dont run 8.

But I advise you not to worry atm, just wait for the atag "patch" to be released, which will have lots more coverage on windows 8 usage im sure.

stndbfrgrn 01-10-2013 01:01 PM

Copy that, I'll wait. Thank you anyway!
