Maybe there is once a skin-pack from JG-1/Stab Karl schumacher. Mine 109er skins are NOT professionel, and have flaw.
< + - became from my grandfather Otto Behrens flown. Later he flew the FW 190 in the JG 26 |
Great skins
Hi Mate8
Great set of skins. However I'm curious as to why the size of the file is so large. it's around 3,200 kb each one Wonton's latest skin was 2,130 kb and some of Captain Farrels skins come in as low as 900 kb obviously it's better to have them lower kb as the game will run better. But I've been wondering for a while how to reduce the size of the skins. I've tried through Photoshop but no matter what I do I can't get the file size lower. You guys have any idea on this?:confused::confused: |
Thanks everyone. Your feedback means alot and helps to fuel further projects. It was a fun project.
As for the size of the file... I save as jpeg in lossless format so that it looks the same as when I create it. I'm not sure why it's bigger unless maybe the colour count has something to do with it. I'm away from home until tomorrow. I'll give it a look when I get back tomorrow. |

thx Ez!
wonderfull work, and made especially for us :) so thank you. there are a few details though, which i personally would change according to pictures weve found.plus a more pronounced weathering would be great, as the ingame weathering looks horrible.but thats only personal taste. btw, i see you didnt include the Wnr. for number 1....i guess you didnt find any for this particular aircraft just like we werent able to find it...? S from 6./JG26! Edit: ive seen that you took Brown4 as Walter Schneider's plane?are you sure about that?from what sources to you take that info from? cause to my information, Walter Schneider was flying Brown 1. |
Thanks EZ!:)...excellent work

5./JG27.Farber Music
5./JG27.Farber
Hey mate8 that music you posted had me laughing non stop What a F... classic. thanks for the share :grin::grin::grin: |
Well I'm back from my mini-holiday.
@Acred... Tried to minimize the file size and can't. Maybe some computer guru can answer this one for us.. I tried changing compression value from 1 to 3 with no changes.. I tried to change the number of paint colours from 16 million to 64,000 and that seemed to add .05mb to the download.. @David... I could only find Wnr numbers for 5 of the 9 aircraft I had photos of. And I'm not a master of weathering ...yet. @Farber... Great choice of music to celebrate the release of the pack  @All the rest... Thanks. |

What I would start with is removing the layer with internal parts - it's hard coded anyway and it really adds up to the final size due to amount of colours used. If you are using Photoshop, just experiment with the default save as settings, they're good enough and you'll find some settings that will give you reasonable size (for me that is around 1MB) and no dithering or too much pixelation. |
Good find Robo..
I never thought about that, and the fact that it's not needed anyways (I didn't think about the file size and just thought it looked cool :) ). I've reduced the size from 3.20mb to 2.34mb by getting rid of this layer. Unfortunately with this skin, the rivets I used was from that layer, so to fix this on all 12 planes will take some time. **Edit, PS.. I don't use Photoshop.. I use Paintshop Pro. |

I am not too sure about PSP, haven't used it for a very long time, but I suppose the saving options for jpeg format must be similar for PSP, PS, GIMP etc. Try irfanview, small viewer and editor, very powerful. D/L the plugins, too - you get all sorts of jpeg size optimizing options. Very easy to use. |
It wasn't until I began skinning for IL2:ClOD that I realized the options when saving, and discovered "lossless format". I left the compression value at 1 (default), and have been using that ever since. I have set the compression value to 5 now and have reduced the size to 1.23mb from 3.20mb with very little loss.
I will be sure to keep the file size down from now on, thanks. ***Edit... This is without removing the internal parts, just noticed. |
