I've been wondering as well if it would be better to stop using rage skills until I get the two last ones (in Hades, rage at lvl 40+ right now). I don't want the upgrades for the rest of the skills anyway... (either I don't use them or the cost goes up too much or the upgrade effect is useless)

I think you should get access to the last rage skills earlier - or at least there should be skill-specific leveling, so you can level the last skills properly.

Question was about LEVEL not how much total rage you can get.

I had about 100 Rage when I first got to Greenwort (as a Skald). Sorta off topic, but just thought I'd mention it.

Dammit. I was wondering if it capped at some point. I think that this is one of the huge disadvantages of trying to mix the Spirits of Rage-esque Valkyries with the Baby Dragon's leveling system.

I mean the only big advantage of the whole thing (in my opinion) was that Olaf's and the Valkyries' abilities didn't have common cooldowns.

Edit:
I wonder if it's possible to mod the game so that the Valkyries and Olaf leveled up independently of each other, similar to how Spirits of Rage leveled up in The Legend.

They do level up independently just like Armored Princess. Never played KB:TL. I'm guessing you mean per usage, level them up? I'm OK with the current system as I think it is fine I can strengthen other rage skills or rotate them by using other rage skills. Just make it uncapped like in Armored Princess or to a point where you can get all of the skills maxed out.

I'm at Rage Level 60. It is indeed, capped. I think it is an oversight: a bug.

Just beat the undead dragon's army. Used up 555 rage in that battle, got zero rage experience points.

Normal experience points, I got 31K experience points in a single battle, just got to Olaf level 46... I definitely should have gotten a rage level.

91K out of 91K "rage" experience points when I mouse over the battle screen, RAGE LEVEL maxed, I'm missing the last rage skill.

This means you have to pace the game to get all the skills you want, then level up only selectively. At least now I know for my second play through or they will probably patch it later? (or does anyone know how to patch it?)

GREAT JOB guys. Just great. Except they are wrong. My personal, current rage is MUCH higher than level 60. It's about 9000 right now.

Oh, sorry. In Kb:Tl each spirit had its own level. Applying it to this, it would be like:

Christa uses Christa's Gift -> Christa gains experience -> Christa gets to improve her own ability at level up (i.e. 3 different upgrade choices for ONLY Christa's Gift)

The others wouldn't level if they weren't used. I can see that such a system could seriously imbalance the game (more so, I mean) but it would remove quite a bit of the frustration of pacing your Rage usage.

Yeah I had a feeling that is what you meant mid-way through my post, but there is NOTHING really wrong with this current system as long as they don't cap it.

Or, what would make it better would be to let me DEFER rage upgrades. I typically sit on a huge surplus of runes for this purpose. I only get skills until I absolutely need it. I'd rather have sat on a surplus of valkyrie upgrades.

It feels very random now and a "hope I get lucky" and get the rage upgrade I want.

Pretty sure in Armored Princess, hitting max rage level only made you lose one or two upgrades of the rage skills. Here, I'm missing probably 15+ upgrades.

Although, to be frank, I don't really need any more of the new rage skills, it is just frustrating.

Rage skills lvlup easy to fix :
game folder/sessions/addon/ses.kfs/arena.txt , there is string of numbers exptable=30,60,100... that is exp needed to lvlup rage skills. It goes up to 70000 at 60lvl. For more lvl`s just add numbers after last 70K, but remember that in impossible there is x1,3 for rage so you need 30% more exp then is listed in arena.txt file like you saw your rage caped out on 91000 which is 70000x1,3.
So if you for expl add 10 more lvls and max is on 85000, then in impossible game you`ll need actually 85000x1,3=110500 exp for that 80lvl rage in game.
Add as much lvl`s you want, save file, close archive and return to game.
Thing i`m not 100% sure is do you need to start new game, or it will accept new lvls in already started :-(

But in the Legend, each spirit had 4 skills, so it was 16 rage skills total and each of those skills had it own rest. So you could use weaker skill every battle turn, or use 1 strong skill and w8 3-4 turns to cooldown and there was strategy in planing which rage ksill to use when.
AP and WotN you have 9, so if you lvlup each Valk only after using her specific rage skill they would have horrible exp gain due to each skill rest period, and when it get to be used again enemy army is much smaller and exp will be insignificant for every skill use after first 5-6 battle turns.

Fair enough. There's also the part where my suggestion would leave you with two or three ridiculously leveled rage skills while leaving the rest almost untouched.

I've been saving a lot of 'easy' battles for that one. Also, it looks like a very linear/straight forward pattern to modify the game for additional rage levels.

I'm pretty sure it will work without restarting the game (can't test it quite yet right now though).

Although, I will have to redo that ridiculous battle again. :(

wait... how do i even see my rage level or my rage exp? that's not listed anywhere on the character menu?


I use a ton of rage all the time, I am really trying to level up my abillities as they're all still too weak...yet... i've 2 blank spots missing abilities...and well i'm worried i'll hit max lvl before I get them! eek! but i can't even tell how close or far from lvl60 rage i am!

After you win the fight, you see the battle summary where you see XP and such. Make sure you click "detail" button.

Mouse over the rage area and you will see a little number that is your 'rage level' and a bar. If you mouse over the bar, it will tell you how much XP you have for that level.

By the way, I tried the patch, no workie. I think there is a hard limit of 60 set somewhere else. I'm going to just proceed without it. At least I will 'always' have enough rage to cast those new skills when I get them. :)

The patch DID reset the xp bar (so it shows black), but it still says 91,000 out of 91,000 and does not increment.

Right now, my bar is 'green' (no patch).

I've never clicked detail before because anytime I win a battle without loses I don't feel to myself like I'd care for any details, but yeah wow, okay I'm safe I'm rage level 41 and I'm still missing 2 valkyrie skills so... if I don't use any rage at all throughout demonis or hades maybe I'll be okay! but only because of this warning! thanks

Can someone give me a rough idea of how long it takes to get the last rage skill (starting point is getting the second to last skill)? Preferably without spoilers. Also, is the last skill useful, i.e. does it pay off to hold off leveling? Again, no exact description necessary, just a general idea.

Last 2 rage skills?

Olaf gets one more fire based skill (might be a straight column).
Another Valkyrie - modified lightning ball.

Lightning ball is slightly bugged with pathing which sometimes causes game to hang indefinitely.

Not sure on the fire skill since I don't have it... yet. :)

I just wanted to get an impression of how long (in gametime) it would take until the last skill is unlocked, and whether I should stop leveling rage skills until that point (rage level is 41 or 42, I think, and Mista's Lightning is still at the basic level).

Mistra at low level isn't that bad since it works off of % base and will have a low cooldown.

This might matter if you are a mage, but as a warrior, I don't think lightning ball will be that much more useful relatively speaking.

Loki blast is probably from Loki in Riftlands.

Lightning ball is right after you are betrayed (after you hand over the Dragon Tears and fight the betrayer).

In other words, finish Demonis (1st time), hand over dragon tears, and you can get final skills.

1) get them all on 3rd lvl before entering Demonis
2) get them all to 5th before end of game.
My question was how to get first achievement and all 5 Valk upgrade to 3rd lvl before dmon lands, if you get 5th Valk after you go there ???

You only need to get 4 valks to level 3. I was able to get this achievement.

Did you change lvlup in arena.txt on already started game ? Or make changes, start new game and still blocked on 60lvl rage ?
I did it that way in Ap/Cw and got pet dragon to 70 lvl i added 2 more lvl`s for every skill and got to chose from those skills after i pass 60lvl that was max in original settings.
Thing is i started new game for this, that`s why i said i`m not sure if it works on game already in progress :-(

Hard to say. Most likely what "level" the rage skill is (so usually the ones that need more rage points).

You need to cast your rage skills a lot, and have good synergy so you can consistently cast 2 rage skills every round.

a) have a LARGE amount of max rage -- this increases your rage growth
b) lots of +% rage skills like higher anger
c) try to keep at least one low rest skill, and one heavy hitter (for good rage xp).
d) generate tons of rage by doing critical hits, fighting strong armies (really efficient army kills, using debuffs/buffs)

Cast it often. :)

Rage formula can be found in the KB armored princess ultimate manual (look for all posts / threads created by me and look for the ultimate manual update link).

In Ap/Cw best exp rage skill was lightning ball, and it cost much less then dragon dive/astral spirits/lava call. So rage spend/exp gained is a bit tricky.
I`m not sure who made it, but there was pet.atom file in 1 of Ap mods , with list of all pet dragon skills, lvlups and dmg/rest/exp gain. Great file to have fun with in moding rage skills.

There is all info for wall rage skill upgrades per lvlup. Expl : for 5th lvl of wall, you need 9th lvl of rage skills

and on that lvl your wall will have 2000hp , cost 20 rage , rest 4 , and 16 exp gain. Consider that this is multiply with enemy/all total leadership ration in moment you cast rage skill (enemy army have 5 stacks of 100 peasants , and you have 1 troll = 5x100x5lds / 1x1100lds = 2500/1100=2,36 so if you use wall rage skill in that moment you`ll get 2,36x16 = 38 rage exp).
Expl 2 : for same wall skill, to upgrade defense to 3rd lvl , you`ll need

wall of at least 2nd lvl level:>2 , and rage skills on 11lvl LV:>11 . So to upgrade wall defense takes higher rage skills lvl then to upgrade it to 5 lvl basic with low defense.
In end if you wonder how much any rage skill gives you exp per use , try to figure out what did you upgrade for it so far and in that file calculate it`s basic exp gain. Anything you get is outside of battle. In battle that amount is multiply with lds ration at moment of using rage skill (so if you get in battle with 5 stacks of 10000 lds, and enemy have total army strength of 1000 lds - very weak, dont use much rage, it`s waste of time for skill animations. Maybe just for gold skill, rest will give you almost nothing).

That`s all i know on rage exp, for more ask something specific, i`ll try to help.

Can anyone confirm this works? I came back to replaying WotN once more and I remember the rage level cap annoying me a lot, being at lvl 58 in Rage when I got the last Valk the last time I played, leaving no room to upgrade her.

I made the changes to the arena.txt (both in addon and fire and ice folders), added numbers for levels up to 80 (capping at around 110k XP) and started a new game. But I have no way to test whether it works before I actually reach rage level 60.

I know that the probability of getting an answer to this in miniscule but in any case - thanks in advance.

EDIT:
Currently on rage level 58 in Hades. Expect to be 59 once I get done with it and give Guilford the last item. Will report on whether or not this method works once I hit 60.

EDIT 2:
Can confirm that this solution works.

However, I probably underestimated the required experience. In Arlania, i can get over 1k rage XP for a deadly/invincible fight if I want to. Once I hit rage level 60 (91k XP on Impossible with about a half of Arlania after Guilford cleared), I also got like a third of the next level. At this rate, I will hit the cap long before nearing the end of the game. I used a 2% scaling from 60-70 and 3% scaling for 70-80.

Here are the numbers I added for reference:

Now that I've freshly experienced it, I suggest using about a 3-3.5% scaling all the way, which would land you at about 126k-139k required experience instead of 114k.

EDIT 3:
Just hit rage level 80 yesterday in Riftland with the numbers above. Interesting note - Loki's rage ability refused to show up even once. I got it at rage level 69, had everything else maxed at level 72 and what remained was the Ice Wall (didn't have it until that point) and Loki's Aid upgrades. From level 73 to 80, only the wall upgrades showed up at level up options. The first time at level 73, forced me to take the wall due to all 3 options being the same. The subsequent levels regularly offered the same 3 or 2 options for the Wall. Loki's Aid either has an extremely low chance of showing up or the RNG got borked somehow or it is simply bugged and never offers any upgrades for it. Would be interesting to see if I made the cap even higher and there was nothing else left besides Loki. Would the game bug out or finally give me an upgrade for it? Will have to wait for another playthrough to find out.

TLDR:
The solution for increased level cap works. But be sure to start a new game after editing the file. It will NOT work on games already in progress. Will most likely work for all games from Legend to Darkside.

I feel like I'm talking to myself here so this will be the last entry to the Captain's log. Hopefully, someone else finds this helpful in their future King's Bounty adventures.
