B6-Original vershion

Hi Blacksix, could you see if a download link could be provided for the original release vs. of the game. No matter how much I try Steam interferes with me attempting to have that vs. for play. :)

I can't understand your question. Do you want the original 1.0 version? It's impossible, Steam don't let you such possibility.

jibo 09-10-2012 11:29 AM

hello B6 how things are goin' ? ( you just have to say "well") :)

il_corleone 09-10-2012 11:35 AM

Blacksix i think that is not impossible, only if you have the CD, i have the collectors edition so, if i install the game and turn off the automatic updates, i caan play the original 1.0 righ? but the activacion process and etc? Salute!

I thought if made available like the beta patch v.1.08.18956 or the others, it could then be unzipped in proper folder. I can do that now with other vs but not the 1.0 v

Continu0 09-10-2012 11:43 AM

buy the CD, this will alow you to install 1.0. I don´t think there is another way. The purpose of Steam is, that all players use the actual Version, so it doesn´t make sense to provide earlier versions...

ATAG_Dutch 09-10-2012 11:59 AM

Guys, I have the CD from the collector's edition. All the disc does is install steam, and then the game downloads via steam. So even with the disc, you'll still receive the last official retail release, i.e. v1.05.

But Slipball, what reason do you have for wanting the initial release?

Mine installs from the disc and then updates via steam.

Really? Ok, I stand corrected. I haven't installed since March 2011, so you could be right. I'd swear that's how it happened back then though.....

same here. It should be possible with every CD, but i have no idea how to change the installation-way (cd or steam-download).

JG52Uther 09-10-2012 12:44 PM

Apparently you do this, no idea if it works with CoD though:
Installing from Disc instead of Steam

Question
I try to install my retail game from the included disc(s), but the game begins downloading through Steam instead. What can be done?

Answer
Mac Users:
If you are using a Mac, you will not be able to install from the disc. Please double-click on the game in your Library list to begin downloading and installing the software.

Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc
  • Log in to Steam and click on Library.
  • Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
  • Insert the first disc into your computer.
  • Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
  • Press Windows Key + R to open Run
  • In the Run window type: "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct. Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location. Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

Steam always brings the version up to the latest official patch in one go.

So, if you download from Steam you'll have 1.05.something.

If you install from the disk and disable Steam updates you'll have 1.0.something, which you cannot upgrade incrementally: turning on updates will bring you up to 1.05.something, as if you were downloading from Steam.

The only way to have the ability to go back to a specific version is to keep backups of each one. Steam does have such a feature. Before applying any update you can backup your current version. I had all versions backed up on my HD, from EU release to the latest one, but disk space was running low and i deleted them.

Hi Dutch...I just wanted to try it again in its original form because I liked some of the visuals. However my memories do fade, so I could really be off track with this.

You are tempting me to do the same XD

wannabetheace 09-10-2012 03:56 PM

I've backed up the original 1.0 v in my computer. if I want I can overwrite on the current folder and good to go with no steam update but not tried it yet :)

JG52Uther 09-10-2012 04:01 PM

How does it play? Its been so long I can't really remember what it looked like!

il_corleone 09-10-2012 04:22 PM

i have one question guys, there was an activation whit keys software, we will have it now to play it? or will be removed?

EDIT:Starting installation whit the disk i will post img and tutorial later... lets see what happens!

JG52Uther 09-10-2012 04:54 PM

Anyone going the Version 1 route, make sure you back up your settings somewhere, just in case it does something screwey!

il_corleone 09-10-2012 04:58 PM

ok just instaled from disk, and disabled automatic updates, but the game updates to the 1.05 automaticatly, when you press play it says X mins to play the game, and starts to download the 1.05, i just put the 1.08 patch, and i dont know if i am i or something, but its more smoother lol

Jaws2002 09-10-2012 06:01 PM

I tried many ways to do this for the same reasons you mentioned. Much more natural lighting, better visuals.
I even contacted steam about it. It won't work. Steam won't let you play until you download the update.

I managed to restore one of the old backups I had. I keep playing with it from time to time. It's a pain to go back and forth between versions all the time, but with the Steam folder and the backup, being on SSDs it works pretty fast.

This are some shots taken with that instal (most likely messed up by the upload messy conversion):

It sure looked nice then.

SlipBall 09-10-2012 06:38 PM

Thanks Jaw's, so it wasn't just a mixed up memory stored in my head:-P, they look great!.. I think it would be a very nice gesture if 1c would release the 1.0 v to us to enjoy if one wants. They need only call it a beta v., no need to advertise just provide a dl link, and then Steam would not be a problem for us. Not everybody complained back then, especially a off-line user like myself liked its beauty...so B6 you can arrange this?

il_corleone 09-10-2012 06:38 PM

i have an idea, if we install it whit steam Offline and the disk? it wont search updates if its offline and i think can work... just hope, tomorrow i will try it!

It won't work. As any steam game, you can play it in off line mode, can install it off the disc, but have to go online to activate it. That's when steam will start to update to the latest official version. It will not let you play it until it's up tp date.:(

Jaws2002 09-10-2012 07:17 PM

And of course, the mandatory screenshots.

I just snapped this ones.

It's a great idea. Everyone would have a chance to see what this game was suposed to look like.

In a perfect world, I'd want them to bring backthe original advanced lighting engine in the official version. :(

il_corleone 09-10-2012 07:59 PM

ok i just , instaled it whitout internet, well, ok, but when i tried to star it, says, this game is not prepared to play in disconected Mode, so, the last hope we have is to have some backup files and overwrite our games and put off the auto-update option, i think Salute!

il_corleone 09-10-2012 08:14 PM

No that won't do it...lets see if B6 can help, but odds are small. Steam policy needs amending for off-line play:grin:

What are the chances of bringing back those colors and lighting to the curent game?

Codex 09-11-2012 09:45 PM

I for one would love the original colours back...

B6 ... I think it's time for a poll ;)

If they do that ( wich I would like ), then all the "I like hollywood colors because hollywood colors are more real" people will come again to ask for removal that "over saturated" colors and so on... It´s sad... but it´s true. Lot of people thinks nature has a sepia/green/grey/yellow/b&w/noisy/thunder filter effect over it all the time, or that human eyes capture images as cameras do. To much films/games, very little country.

SlipBall 09-13-2012 04:59 PM

Looks like Jaws is very lucky to have saved 1.0 back up...
