Anton did say they were still updating the list somewhat once or twice a week if poss, so theirs still chance the P47 will be added :)

We can't be to picky though, what a good list it is so far!!

A B24!!!

Always loved that bomber more than the B17!!

The B-24 was a great airplane with a large payload and tremendous range, but it was very tough to handle. I'll be curious to see how the flight models differ between the B-17, which was in comparison very easy to fly, and the B-24. And yes I too am keeping my fingers crossed for the Jug :-P

Yeah the website list is incomplete. The Japanise "Predator boy" video shows the P-47D in the US section in USAAF markings. Also missing from the website is the B-17G, PBY5 and PBY-5a Catalina, OS2U-1 and OS2U-3 Kingfisher. Interestingly the versions of P-39 seem to have changed since the version of BoS in the video. P-39Q-5 is in both but the P-39N-0 that was in Wings of prey aswell has been removed and replaced by the P-39Q-15 and the USAAF P-39K-1 added aswell. (Gaijin like their P-39s ;) )

Very good. Zero pilots are spoiled for choice lol. Just checked the Japanise Konami video again and it seems this is the full list of Japanise planes, unlike the US list.

I hope the AI is fixed. I haven't played Birds/Wings SP much since the release. Started replaying it on PC recently, and it's maddening. I actually instantly got killed three times in a row from respawn, and of course the original kill was just as unfair.

Nothing worse than getting in an aerial battle, with friendlies in the air, turning aorund, and seeing practically all the enemy planes on your tail. :-x

Still can't wait to take the P-38 for a spin. I'm still getting a kick out of BF3 (four service stars and more than 20 hours in jets) and I'm giving Ace Combat Assault Horizon a try, but Birds of Steel is just too far away.

ACAH isn't bad and I was able to buy into the story and intensity... for the first couple missions. The rest of the game doesn't come close to matching the intensity of the first mission and at times it substitutes challenge for difficulty, which can be very frustrating, and other times it's just boring. DFM mode isn't as bad as I initially thought and is a pretty intense way of conveying speed and motion. The helicopter missions are terrible. Terrible flight model (if it can be called that) and terrible camera.

Robotic Pope 12-10-2011 01:26 PM

I posted earlier on the gaijin forum my BoS preliminary list of British and Australian planes that I'm expecting to be confirmed on the website soon, forgot to post it here too so here it is now. Only 3 aircraft that i'm unsure of the mk so I put a question mark.

Bouncing bombs FTW!

The Ruhr recevied quite a bit more than just a few bouncing bombs in WWII so that doesn't garentee you will be bombing the dams at all. The Lancaster is in the game (see list ubove) but whether its the normal B mkIII or the bouncing bomb moddified B mkIII Special is unknown. Id prefer it to be the regular version as the Special is a one trick pony, it would be useless in a online Strike game for example.

Agree it's limited if it's a Upkeep 'Special' save for if they include the later Tallboy and Grand Slam 'Specials' used by 9 and 617 Sqns in which case bring them on!
That all said its been well documented here and Gaijen forum that strikes would ideally include a number of differing targets to hit- tanks, trains, viaducts, troop columns and ships to name but a few.
The fact the Lanc's there is enough to make me salivate like one of Pavlovs dogs irrespective of what exact type.

I have the site listed as a favourite so noticed the updated list earlier.

A great looking list, so classics!! Would of preffered a Typhoon to a Tempest but i really dont mind the Tempest at all :D

And the Lanc...

I'm so glad its the one it is. I didnt want a grand slam special or a gibson lanc. I just wanted a bog standard normal lanc and thats what they've given us. Excellent!!! Notice its in 49 squadron markings to (EA) which is probably a good shout, they were part of 5 group and did their fair share of work, from arms factories to peenemunde...they were their.

And the cream of the crop.... HURRICANES!!! 2 of em!!! But both look the same in the pics though. Still i have faith in the guys at Gaijen to deliver :D

One Hurricane to shoot down planes and one Hurricane to drop a couple of bombs or fly further. Will do me.

Now the negative...

6 BLOODY SPITFIRES!!!

That aside..

I cannot wait for some free flying on this now!!!

Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane in formation - Beautiful!!

Cannot wait to fly the Mossie either!! What a beauty. No doubt Pope will be making use of it ;)

This game has jumped to the top of my must have list.

bobbysocks 12-14-2011 05:31 PM

i never bothered to get the b17...are you able to switch gunner placements...like go from front gunner to ball turret (top and bottom ) to side gunner to rear??

FOZ_1983 12-14-2011 05:34 PM

On another note -

Lancaster Bomber EA-D of 49 Squadron Bomber Command was one of two 49 squadron Lancasters lost over Berlin during a raid on the night of 26/27 November 1943. Only the Bomb aimer "J G Burrows" survived. He was taken prisoner.

It would be good to see the serial number of this in game Lancaster.

Below is a pic of "D for Dog" after another previous trip to Berlin. Taken from a 49 squadron site -

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...1983/DforD.jpg

Here's the site about this particular airplane -

To unlock the Lancaster win 500 strike games using bombers  ;)

Seriously now, the B-17 turrets were just the same as the other bombers in BoP, so no.

All aircraft shown on the BoS site are identical to the ones shown on the World of planes site. So here is the the Australian DAP Beaufighter mk.21 you can expect to be anounced soon on the BoS site ;) Can't wait to try out this birds firepower, Four 20mm cannons and four .50 machine guns (plus a pea shooter out the back lol). About that Foz, I'm pretty sure for multiplayer/training you can make your plane into whatever particular plane in history you want. Thats why there are no markings on the basic plane skins. I'm guessing the previous pic of the lanc is from a single mission? thats why it has markings?

Here is the Lanc skin without markings.

How do you mean?

In BoP you couldn't change skins or markings. I know in BoS it lets you change skins but i didnt know you could do markings!! If so does that mean i can fly around in the new game in my grandads Lancaster? VN-B? that would be pretty epic.

CrashLanding 12-15-2011 07:27 PM

I believe Pope is saying that the singleplayer AC have markings because they missions are based on real missions. In multiplayer there are no markings because of the reverse.

Robotic Pope 12-15-2011 07:54 PM

Yes, aircraft customisation for multiplayer/training, to make the plane yours, to show that you belong to an online squadron, to recreate a specific aircraft in history that may be close to you.

This is my thinking behind the lack of markings on the planes anyway, as the customisation system already exists in Apache-AA.

Robotic Pope 12-21-2011 04:15 PM

A great list, was suprised to see the JU-52 on it though!! A very welcome edition. Of all of them its the JU-88 i wouldnt mind taking for a free flight :)

Hopefully with ALL planes having cockpit which would truly add to this great game, will we be seeing co-pilots, navigators etc in the cockpits with us if we free look about the cockpit?

Would be great to fly the Lanc or the Mossie and look beside you to see the Navigator/Engineer at work.

Anton please don't think i was being rude or offensive by posting what i did. It was a bit of humour to go with my post (hence the smily face). I will be getting this game regardless so i'm in no rush.....

Though i would like it sooner rather than later ;) so about that release date...

Also... did you know that recent documents released by the RAF show that the Hawker Hurricane had a top speed in level flight of over 500MPH? It also had sidewinder missiles to compliment its 8 (yes 8 ;) ) hispano cannons, 4 were on the wing and visible, the other 4 were hidden from view inside the wing. Who would of believed it eh? And the strange ability to absorb damage and just carry on flying as it it hadn't been touched. Invulnrable if you like. But the icing on the cake... Did you know it had a Rolls Royce Merlin engine? Not a cessna one like we though? hahaha. If you cant implement the sidewinders etc then fair enough, im all game for a fair fight. But please give me a real merlin to listen to :D Thank you muchly haha.

As a side not guys... We should be expecting the Italian planes sometime tomorrow :D

CrashLanding 01-13-2012 07:57 AM

Except that's a Monday soooo.... Maybe it's supposed to be March 13?

Amazon in the US is still showing March 31.

StiC 01-13-2012 12:38 PM

Futureshop has it listed as March 13. I was going out to pre-order today, but being as it is Friday the 13th, I'm stuck with the kids because of a snow day. Just my luck lol.

StiC

bobbysocks 01-13-2012 04:49 PM

maybe they are going to ship pre-orders on monday ( 12th ) so they will be in the mailboxes tues the 13th. ???

FOZ_1983 01-13-2012 05:19 PM

If thats the case then we (UK and Europe) should expect it on the 16th as the Friday is when gamea are usually released over here.

Though to be honest we've not heard anything from Anton and he said he would let us know as soon as he knew anything. And he has been on here today and not said anything so i'm assuming he doesnt know yet either?

But its the Amazon UK site that is quoting the 12th. A Monday launch is unusual but its not unheard of.

Gilly 01-13-2012 07:39 PM

From experience, in terms of delivery, Amazon have usually been pretty impressive. I got GT5 a day before official release. Online was quiet though.....
But in terms of being right on release dates, for GT5 it took them a few tries before they got it right. As I said originally I wasn't trying to hype just pass on what little info we seem to be getting onto those that have a vested interest. As for Anton not responding, is it like back at school where denial usually covered the fact that you had had a fumble with that big lass from the next village in the park on Friday night after downing a bottle of Thunderbird!!!

I'm just happy its coming.

bobbysocks 01-13-2012 08:13 PM

i had the opposite experience with AAA. I got it a day or so after everyone picked it up in the stores. everyone here usually hits gamestop or best buy....that where the lines will be. i had a friend walk right into the local walmart and pick up a copy of a game right away...then drove past the lines at GS. <<< so that is my plan this time.

mavrickandgoose 01-13-2012 08:35 PM

I would make sure walmart will have it as much ss we love il2 and look forward to BOS you have to admit it's not a huge name game walmart might not stock it that's why I'm preordering it from gamestop. Wish they would do a midnight release lol

bobbysocks 01-14-2012 07:02 AM

"wally world" names their price in the world market with whatever they buy and IF its new, they will be one of the top dogs to get it....of they will never buy from that seller again. they simply will NOT be second rate or left behind...i guarantee you ....they will have enough copies by the time i get there. i will be bold and take the risk.....

Hello form KillRoy

Hello Ladies and Gents
As most of you know I am the GM over at Gaijin forums, I would like to start off by saying welcome and we are glad to have all of you visiting and playing our games.
Next I would like to ask that as you visit and play the games at Gaijin that you conduct your selves in a mature way and not start or bring flame wars or other battles to the forums or in the Pm system.
This is to insure that everyone has a good time playing and enjoys the forums that Gaijin has provided.

So in closing glad to meet all of you and hope we can all enjoy our selves and treat each other with respect.

Thanks

Hi KillRoy,

Welcome to our humble forum. You will find that all, save for one, of the people both here and over on BoS are sane, polite and humble. We are a small number of addicts who have played BoP since inception. As can also be seen here it has been one particular lunatic that has done it's best to spoil the friendly nature found here. All that it's attempts have served to achieve is to bring us all together against, and as much as I don't wish to use the term, a common enemy. Rest assured that we all respect the AUP on both here and BoS but if you too had been subjected to it's homophobic, rascist nazi spouting you'd probably understand where we all are coming from. All I can hope is that is that you are not subjected to what some have had to endure. One can only guess at what makes a person so blatantly evil, history sadly has shown us there were and still are such nutters and as such we have to laugh it off and get on with it. It perhaps would have a stronger argument if it actually was any good!
Thanks for posting and I'm sure we all understand where you're coming from and thank you for the work you put in over on BoS.

bobbysocks 01-18-2012 06:26 PM

glad to see you here killroy. you will find the pilots here are, like has been said above, game oriented and get along...between the different console...different nationalities..genders. we're not saints...we do engage in heated arguments on occasion BUT cooler heads prevail and we all make nice. there has been one or 2 that love to stir up trouble and keep coming back under different names...but they cant change their spots and are soon back to their dispicable behavior and are thus banned...again. other than that exception... its a great core of good players here who are pretty much ALL anxiously waiting for BoS...many of the names you will see on that forum. trust me you will enjoy talking and sharing with them.

bobbysocks 01-18-2012 06:28 PM

Killroy has begun to answer a lot of questions on the BoS site...so do not hesitate to look there.

Update

We are glad to present you two locations that will be available in Birds of Steel: Kuban and Midway

Kuban is a region in Northern Caucasus, on the Black Sea coast; it includes the towns of Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk. The latter is located on the coast of Tsemess Bay, home to one of the largest and most convenient ports of the Black Sea. The region has several airfields and a naval base.

Midway is an atoll in the North Pacific Ocean, near the northwestern end of the Hawaiian Archipelago. Home to a navy base and an airfield.

Robotic Pope 01-25-2012 02:12 PM

KillRoy 01-25-2012 03:08 PM

Hi Gents
Well the site is working again, from my experience with web sites I would say some one is trying to hack the site and down it, no names of who I think is doing this, but any way we will see what goes on now.

Ok site is not working fully as of yet, they are experiencing some problems stand by I will keep you in formed of the progress.
...........KillRoy.........

haitch40 01-25-2012 03:58 PM

From the errors I am guessing your getting a denial of service attack. Anyway thanks for keeping us informed.

Robotic Pope 02-11-2012 04:59 PM

The Gaijin forum is still Erroring (is that a word? lol) a lot. Is it just the amount of people is overloading it??

bobbysocks 02-11-2012 05:15 PM

i have been getting that for awhile now. i wonder if a cumulation of ALL the forums could be causing that. i find it hard to believe the BoS forum itself has that many viewers to clog it up..

Gaijin needs to shell out for better servers/bandwidth. :-P

Or trace the attacks and contact the authorities... pretty sure things like that aren't legal...

bobbysocks 02-12-2012 03:25 PM

hope this isnt a preview of their dedicated servers would be like ..... if they are going to use them for BoS....

I think the chances of them using dedicated servers for BoS are slim to none.

For their PC game it would cost them hardly anything to include dedi files, but even for that, I doubt we'll get it.

trk29 02-12-2012 10:00 PM

Pre-ordered yesterday, can't wait. I need to get back in the air!

Whiskey Red 02-15-2012 04:48 PM

Can we get a list of confirmed aircraft that have cockpit views? I was very disapointed with this implementation in BoP (only a handful of cockpits plus incorrect cockpits in at least one or two aircraft). The adds make it sound as if all 100 planes will have cockpit views, but I saw under a previous post that Anton admitted that the game has "much more unique" cockpits, which sounds to me like an admission that not all planes do have cockpit views. Is it, say, all of the fighters and no bombers?

Additionally, how does the damage model work? Is it really more dynamic, like in IL2 PC versions or is it still more of a "health bar," total loss type system wherein a plane cannot crash unless the total damage equals a set quantity?

As a final request, I would like to know more about how BoS differs from BoP. To be honest, I was disappointed with BoP on many levels. The graphics and flight physics were great, but overall execution seemed lacking. I was mainly frustrated with the damage model, cockpits, a few online features, and missions that did not allow for the full takeoff and landing options. In case you didn't realize, I'm more interested in the sim portion (which I know I shouldn't expect much on a console, but regardless, there other arcade flight games out there I could buy before this one if that's all I was interested in. It's the sim aspect that entices me).

Thanks again. I appreciate your feedback. Any answers you could provide will help me decide whether or not I will purchase this game.

RuffMonk 02-15-2012 05:19 PM

@ Whiskey Red

If I'm not mistaken, I have seen that all fighters will have cockpit view though not sure how authentic they will all be. As for the bombers, I have no idea!

As for the damage model, I do know there will be no health bar feature. From what I've read, it sounds to me that it will be the same as BoP, but upgraded to have more areas that can be damaged.

As for the take off and landing for missions, that has been confirmed, but as to what extent I'm not sure. I do know that you can re-fuel and re-arm by landing, but no specifics as to exactly how it works.

Hope that helps!
