New arrivals to my "hobby" collection
Added a few new planes to my diecast collection this month, have to be careful though as they cost a small fortune so cant get as many as i would like :(
Stanford Tuck Hurricane http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0678.jpg Ian Gleed Hurricane http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0679.jpg Flying "can opener" Desert Hurricane with 40mm Vickers "S" gun http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0680.jpg The 3 new Hurricanes together http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0681.jpg A great looking plane/scheme - my new PR Spitfire http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0682.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0683.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0684.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0685.jpg The 4 new buys together http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0686.jpg And the new BoB Hurricanes with the my older BoB Hurries :D Though to many to fit on the diorama properly haha. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0687.jpg My Hurricane fleet is growing, thats 13 i have now, always room for more. Next on my want list is a couple of BoB Spitfires but they are rather expensive, also a FAA Hellcat(looks great with d-day stripes). Any recommendations as to what would look good in the collection? Unfortunately i cant change the squadron markings etc as they are already printed on. But what WW2 plane do you think should be added next, and why? |

waoooooo!!what a great collection, very nice!!!congratulations!!!top good!! and greaaaaaat!!!an f6f hellcat!!,please post a pics of it when u will have my friend!! for the ww2 planes ,u could be add a dewoitine d520,yes i know i'm chavinist sometimes but it is nice and we don't see a lot,why not a japanese fighter too,it could be nice to have for example the f4u and a n1k shinden in a same pic !!AGAIN CONGRATULATIONS,CONTINUE TO GIVE US THE PICS OF YOUR FANTASTIC COLLECTION!!!!MILLIONS THANKS TO SHARE!!! sincerely olife |
Many thank Olife :D
The Hellcat isn't in many numbers when it comes to diecast, but theirs enough ;) i'm eyeing up either the FAA (Fleet Air Arm) d-day hellcat, a pacific hellcat or a vietnam french hellcat. As for Japanese all i have so far is the Zero but im not to pleased with it. Their could be room for more.... As for the D520... I dont think they do one :( i will check though. |
Very cool, thanks for the pics.
|
Should maybe look at the new list for wings of steel, and try for a small collection of both games not all as i can imagine that would cost a fortune lol.......... if possible that is, as im not a collector, i dont know whats avail and whats not..
|
Quote:
For example - The Hurricane in BoP - I would just use any of the BoB hurricanes from the pic above... The Heinkels... i'd just use one Heinkel that i have. Other wise i would be spending a fortune :( Which i'd love to do don't get me wrong... i just cant :( |
Olife...
Does this meet your approval? ;) Its one i'm currently looking to purchase and add to my collection. It can go with my FAA planes (Swordfish and Hurricane). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corgi-Avia...item5646ca051a http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...size_image.jpg |
Ooh thats a good one Foz, I think you do need it to acompany the pencilfish.
|
Quote:
Its definately up their on my list is this plane, i only have the two FAA planes at the min. Was hoping to either carry on my BoB or Bomber Command set but this particular one has caught my eye... |

All mine (bar the above spit) are all corgi aviation planes. It's an expensive hobby but theirs some great planes. Two hurricanes should be arriving Soon that have been on pre order!! |
Right chaps...
I've decided that sometime soon i'm going to arrange the current collection into theatres of war.... for example - Battle of Britain Brian Lane Spitfire Stanford Tuck Hurricane Ian Gleed Hurricane Douglas Bader Hurricane Willie McKnight Hurricane Bob Foster Hurricane BF 110 Bomber Command Guy Gibson Dambusters Lanc S for Sugar Lanc (RAF museum Hendon) Cyril Barton Halifax De Havilland Mosquito (Amiens raid) Pacific Theatre Corsair (x2) Mitchell Bomber Zero fighter P47 Thunderbolt Hellcat (en route via ebay) European Theatre P51 (x3) P38 Lightning Supermarine Spitfire (Johnny Johnson,D-Day stripes) Hawker Hurricane (D-Day stripes) P47 Thunderbolt ... If that makes any sense? I have pretty much every theatre covered but some more than others. I'm looking at purchasing one or two diecast a month. So Gents... they say knowledge is power, so if its not to much to ask i'd loveyour input or ideas.. What next? What planes would you have and why? or add to the collection. Many thanks. |
Seems like your P-38 might do better in the Pacific theatre, especially if you could paint it up like the planes that took part in operation vengeance. You could also do with a Bf-109E for the Battle of Britain, an FW-190 and an IL-2 for Russia, and an Me-163 Komet just because it's so totally bad assed
|
Quote:
Since all the models are diecast and already painted (thank god, since i cannot paint or make models for the life of me) i can't change liveries. The P38 comes with a buble noseand D-Day stripes, its based in England and used to lead P38 squadrons on bombing missions :) I could always look into the purchase of a pacific one though because thats a theatre i do need to add to :) As for everything else your spot on :) For the Russian front so far ive got - FW190 I-16 As for the Komet..... bad ass? REALLY? ;) haha |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmSNqHckry8 Ok, so this one doesn't have a rocket motor. That just means job security for the tow pilot :P |
Newest Arrival.
Arrived today to spice up my "Pacific Theatre" many thanks to Olife for the advice!! http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0739.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0738.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0737.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0736.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0735.jpg Just some quick shots before i went out. scale planes, how scale are they?
Its been a long time since I posted something on this forum or have played IL2 on my PS3, mostly Call of Duty WAW though. Anyhow great model airplanes, I'm a fan of the Wild Cat myself, don't really like the corsair although its better so they say;).
I wonder what scale are these planes FOZ, they look like them might be 1/32. I'm also working on a collection of my own, but nine arent as detail as yours. But that's okay I guess hence you cannot afford to put much detail and modify RC planes without taking the chance that they would look awesome and end up flying horrible:grin:. My current project is an Ultra Micro P51 D Mustang by Parkzone. So far I have done terrible jobs on decals and paint scheme as you can see from my youtube videos outhere under Luftwaffe Rommel's channel. But hey, one learns from his mistakes hopefully. Once I finish my modifying this one I'll post some videos on youtube. Great job on the painting |
Quote:
Here's how I turn my P51 from pacific theater to 332nd FG Red tails Lt lee Archer (though he flys a P51 B not a D) First use a ruler to measure your current decals and get the dimensions so you know how big you need your new decals to be. match the paint to your plane and paint over decals. Next open up word processor from microsoft and find the specific decals your looking for online. Print them on an transparent shipping label, then cut decals with a hobby knife and apply them to your model Or the more complicated option but eassy for you hence you already know how to edit your own photos. Take a picture of the ingame decals, upload to computer and edit photos (I use paint program under accessories of my Pc), copy and paste them onto an avery transparent shipping lavel template, print, cut with hobby knife, apply to model, spray some enammel or thin gloss. and you will have your own sort of speak custumize decals this seems to work for my RC models ANOTHER hint: for white decals (USAF Stars) use regular shippin label (I spell it correctly this time hahaha) |
Hi Luftwaffe,
Thanks for the post :) My planes are scale 1/72 and all diecast. The majority are limited edition to, so changing them to make them look different would void the limited edition aspect :( Theirs such a huge variety though so finding the right one or something close isnt really to much of an issue for me. I enjoy the endless amounts of time just looking for the right model to purchase. Thanks for the tips though :) i may buy a non limited edition model and try what you've recommended. See how my amatuer hands get on. Many thanks. James |
i havent messed with it yet but there is stuff called "water slide" paper for printing decals. its not all that expensive either. from what i gather you cut and paste or use a word processor to type out what you want...then print it on this paper. then you spray it with a couple coats of clear....cut it..and use just like a regular decal. bought some to mess with but wont get to it until after the holidays but it might be worth seeign what you can find over there foz.

very nice foz!!! of course my favorite is the dauntless cause pacific theater!! but the fleet air arm hellcat and the spit are very nice too!!! millions thanks for sharing bud!! friendly olife |
Olife...
The Dauntless i wanted as soon as i saw it. Looks great. As we speak i've got two more pacific theatre planes on the way :( i blame it all on you haha. I have another Dauntless, based on the USS enterprise and also a TBM Avenger flown by George Bush Snr on the way. My Pacific fleet is growing thanks to your help :) Also looking to epand my European theatre to, i cannot neglect it :D just looking at another Mosquito but they are quite expensive. Also a P47 in d-day markings. The choices are superb. Anymore ideas for the pacific or any other theatre? |

http://nsm06.casimages.com/img/2011/...2719093776.jpg and correct in this next picture http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...size_image.jpg And then I said this: Quote:
Anyway no big deal, they all look fantastic. |
Pope you dirty little dog you!! :D
I'm already one step ahead of you. The decals on the plane (which i dont add by the way, these things are diecast so everything is already done) are not like your pics. The are simply the same on both sides - E-W Will try and get some pics up |
Quote:
That would mean Olife was right in saying that the side profile art is wrong, and that I'm mistaken in thinking the letters were always mirrored like on your hurricanes. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0679.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...T/IMG_0681.jpg |
[QUOTE=Robotic Pope;368331]Hey Olife, you know you said the W and E were the wrong way round in this picture
http://nsm06.casimages.com/img/2011/...2719093776.jpg and correct in this next picture http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...size_image.jpg And then I said this: Well I'm confused now with Foz's model showing the letters the other way round. Unfortunatly he didn't take a photo of the right side model so I can't see, but from what I believe, either both photos are wrong or the left and right decals have been put on the wrong way round on the model. Anyway no big deal, they all look fantastic.[/QUOTE it should read left to right , squadron letter/letters then aircraft letter,so looking at photo of model and box art,id say the model is spot on(assuming that E is the squadron code) |
Quote:
Funny how Ive never really though about squadron markings before. |
hmm interesting,i would of said the hurri LK A ,was incorrect, but got this from a warbird site
"aHawker Hurricane, wearing the black paint scheme and markings of Ian Gleed's P2798, LK-A, during his nightfighting role. Markings on the right side of the aircraft read A-LK, this is to allow the RAF roundel to be painted directly in line with the one on the other side." but is the model a night fighter? im confused |
Quote:
You'll find most squadron marking are the same - Squadron codes followed by individual airplane code - this example being - LK-A LK being the code for 87 squadron and "A" being the aircraft code. This example being LK-A and on the other side A-LK. Majority of others are identical though. I've never really been to fussed for squadron markings to be honest. But the Hellcat and the Gleed Hurricane are correct with their markings. Others are the traditional - squadron code followed by individual airplane code on both sides of the fuselage. |
3 Attachment(s)
yes i believe his aircraft was marked that way,all the images ive seen suggest that
but other 87 squadron aircraft were marked the 'standard' way the only reason i can think is that he was A flight leader and maybe wanted to stand out from the other planes in the flight edit, found a third photo from june 41,i dont think its the same pilot but LK A is marked the 'standard way' |
Thanks for clearing that up chaps, very interesting :-)
Just love those two Spitfire mkXIXs Foz. I got to say i'm a bit dissapointed that there seems again to be no griffon engine spitfire in BoS. All the spitfire variants in the game are so simalar. |
Quote:
Another thing worth noting is that squadron leaders (Douglas Bader, Johnny Johnson, etc etc) could use their initials on their plane rather than squadron markings. So Johnny Johnson for example flying Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk IX MK392, part of 144 wing would of had the code JE-J on the side of his Spit. Douglas Baber had D-B :D Pope.... As much as i love the Hurricane, i have to agree that a griffon Spit would of been nice in BoS. But things would of been pretty one sided if it was included haha. A beautiful plane. I love the sound of the Griffon engine to. So beefy. |
kill 2 birds with one stone, griffon spit JE J
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i133A...hwXzgR24VE4Gfm ha just noticed, code reads right to left,i know nothing |
New diecast arrived today. Thats me now until next year at least, i've got family etc to think of and a beautiful mrs :) First up -

Not really new purchases, but i tried to take pics of a couple to see how they would turn out and how my photography skill were. Not the best i don't think. It'll take me a while to master a camera :( Tried to make the plane blend in with the grass and backdrop. Give me a heads up of what you think please :)

superb
|
On the note of collections, I spotted something in my closet today that I forgot I had. It's a reprint of aircraft spotter playing cards from the 1940s. It has side, tail and bottom silhouettes of various Allied and Axis aircraft on regular playing cards.

New arrival today -
Douglas Dauntless SDB-3 Black B-1 of bombing six USS Enterprise June 1942 Lt. Richard H. Nice bunch you got there! Really building up the serious Pacific hangar. |

Nice, but I think you need a new carrier diarama for it, doesn't look right in the middle of the countryside lol. Have you made a list of what you have?

Cheers guys :) much appreciated.
Avenger next for the Pacific theatre? But open to suggestions for any theatre. Please keep them coming. |
This one Foz! :P
http://www.mossie.org/images/models/...gi/AA32812.jpg Do they do a Meteor F.mkI? If they do thats what McQ59 should get next to go with his V-1 and SpitXIV. |
Thats a nice Mossie their pope!! If its the corgi one then its very hard to get hold of as its only limited to 1510 models and goes for a pretty penny to. I do need a nightfighter though as i dont have one.
A new Hurricane got released in December using "new tooling to make our models the best yet" so naturally i pre ordered it straight away!! When it was released the idiots had screwed it up badly. Its scheme was perfect and look great, but they someone managed to forget to make the air intake under the fuselage part of the new tooling thus completly missing it all together. I wasnt impressed at all, what a disgrace. haha. I've found a pic of the mossie i have, so it saves me opening up the weird box it comes in. This is mine - http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...0CAST/1176.jpg As for the Meteor.... They do indeed do them :D im not sure what Mk's though. Will find out. |
Quote:
why not a german night fighter? like an he219 uhu or a do215 or a ju88? the me110 too of course but the 3 others are more exotical! friendly olife |
FOZ and POPE ,very nicccccccce MOSSIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
...and as i speak about night fighter,a funny and strange thing : the germans night pilots said that a night fighter paint in white is a better camouflage that a black painting sheme!
|
Bit bored this evening so took a couple of Spitfire/Mustang pics. Nothing spectacular, just quick and simple to occupy boredom.
