Hi everyone,

It's here.

Since, as we were struggling with the full screen mode, we managed to finalize our Crossfire and SLI support we decided to bunch it together and release a combined beta patch. All the features of the previous patch are considered final, but new features are not.

Please find the patch readme below.

The latest patch continues to improve on overall performance and multiplayer
functionality, as well as adding new gameplay options such as new Quick missions.

The current patch contains the following changes:

GRAPHICS
* Added beta Crossfire support.
* Added True full-screen mode. The game was previously playing in a stretched
window; that mode is also still available. Switch between windowed, pseudo
(stretched window) and true full screen modes in the Video Options.
NOTE: If you are running an ATI video card and you notice reduced performance in
True full-screen mode, please switch back to Pseudo to improve framerate;
* Greatly improved performance over large cities, especially with Buildings Detail
settings set below Very High. NOTE: if you do experience stutters over cities
with Building Detail set to Very High, please consider turning it down. Even
setting this to Medium will have almost no noticeable effect on visual quality
of the game;
* Introduced background landscape loading that slowly creates landscape under the
player's camera. You can now quickly switch from England to France with
virtually no slow-downs. Performance gain is most noticeable on CPUs with four+
cores.

AIRCRAFT VISUALS
* Reduced head motion effects, especially in terms of G;
* Increased draw distance for markings and decals on aircraft;
* Fixed minor Bf. 110 damage and animation issues;
* Fixed weird movement of Bf. 110's magnetic compass dial;
* Fixed Bf. 109 gunsight misalignment;
* Fixed a hole under a damaged engine cowling in the Defiant;
* Fixed visual issues with Defiant's tail damage;
* Put a mirror onto the Hurricane;
* Fixed Hurricane's tail damage visuals;
* Updated Hurricane radiator animation;
* Ju. 88 gear now open properly;
* Fixed minor Ju. 88 damage visuals;
* Asked the Ju. 88's pilot to keep his feet on the pedals;
* Made minor changes to cockpits of G. 50 and Ju. 88;
* Fixed a visual issue with the Spitfire's antenna;
* Fixed minor Sunderland damage visuals;
* Made minor modifications to Spitfire cockpit;
* Fixed minor damage visuals in the Ju. 88;
* Fixed minor damage visuals in the Hurricane;
* Fixed minor damage visuals in the Ju. 87;
* Made various modifications to SFX.

AIRCRAFT PHYSICS & A.I
* Carburetter backfire effects now require a certain amount of gasoline mix to be
contained in the intake to actually do some damage;
* Aircraft fires now burn crew members;
* Changed magnetic inclination to 10.11 degree west to reflect actual 1940 values;
* Removed ignition control handle from the Bf. 109;
* Defiant's gunner now opens both hatches when bailing out;
* He. 111 top gunner's machine gun won't dip into the fuselage any more;
* Made all fuel pressure gauges a single-tube type;
* Made turret mounts unlock faster;
* Removed the effect that made Bf. 109's motor shake at higher altitudes;
* Added aircraft buffeting to wing icing effects;
* Increased wing lift loss during wing icing;
* Fixed the issue where non-symmetrical damage to landing flap mechanics resulted in
symmetrical air flow over both wings.

GENERAL
* Added Force Feedback support to the game;
* Added six new Il-2-style Quick missions. See them at the bottom of the list -
three each for German and British attacks of Airfields, Bridges and Transport
Columns. Fly in bombers, escort and intercept and scramble fighters, with
missions of up to 128 aircraft!
* Made sure plane selection and other user modifications stick in Quick Mission
Builder when returning to the interface after flying a custom mission;
* Restored throttle-up smoke from non-player planes;
* Fixed some pilot animations;
* Updated some briefings and other in-game texts;
* Improved the overall look of the 2D Map;
* Added a Scale control to the 2D Map (imperial for British, metric for Germans
and Italians);
* Added city and airfield labels to the 2D Map;
* Added larger 64x64 icons to the 2D Map;
* Improved the order in which icons are drawn on the 2D Map when on top of each
other;
* Improved the look of the Battle Area grid;
* Fixed icon size selection options;
* Fixed issues encountered when destroying certain types of railway cars;
* Improved ground crewmembers in online games;
* Made sure Bobbin Cable can be selected in the FMB without issues;
* Fixed an issue encountered when trying to place crew into an object without a
regiment;
* Fixed an issue with launching night missions with search lights on dedicated
servers;
* Fixed an issue with launching missions with certain ships on dedicated servers;
* Fixed an issue with launching missions with armor when sound is disabled.
* Fixed an issue with planes are once again exploding when starting in
hangars.

MULTIPLAYER
* Improved server and client stablity and performance;
* Improved statistics;
* Fixed phantom crewmembers occasionally appearing in place of dropped planes;
* Made sure airborne planes are created with sufficient airspeed in online games
(born speed now tied to the plane's top speed);
* Made sure all players see the same time of day in an online server.

CHANNEL MAP
* Made Dungeness Point look more like the real-life location;
* Added the town of Horsham to the map;
* Added Westhampnett airfield to the map.

Does this patch fix the game-breaking RPM bug with the Spitfire and Hurricane with CEM turned off? I'm really surprised this hasn't been tackled yet, given how big of a problem it is.

That said, thanks for the patch. I really do appreciate your hard work.

Looks like a compehensive patch. A lot of these fixes are fixes I was looking forward to. Thanks very much.

I notice you said Ati cards may experience a performance drop in full screen mode. Is this something that can be sorted out in time?

Will the official patch be out this week?

Extract it to your desktop then just copy the files into the c:/steam/steamapps/common/il2cliffs of dover folder, it can sometimes cause issues if you attempt to extract it directly into the folder.

I take it you've never overheated your car engine before? Did it start shaking? lol

An engine (any for that matter) is balanced either internally or externally and the only way it starts shaking (before mechanical damage) is if a cylinder starts misfiring. You'd be surprised how long an over heated engine can run on all cylinders smoothly. Anyhow, depending on the engine type, usually a blown head gasket, burnt valve etc (you lose cylinder pressure/compression/combustion is going where it's not supposed to) will the balance or in terms of IL2 "shaking" occur. Hello.

It's good to have another patch but in my case the promised SLI is NOT functional. I can see SLI working (using the NVIDIA indicators) in Portal 2 and that uses the same Steam profile as COD but the latter shows no evidence of SLI working and my 2nd GPU is at idling temperature. What have I missed please?

Also, the mirrors in the aircraft still show a random pixellated mess.

What I mean is that it started shaking violently before this beta patch as soon as the radiator temp. went above the limit.

Full screen/psudo full is selectable in the drop down under graphics options.

Shadow flicker has just got worse for me and I now have an odd issue where the proper full sceen upon launching a mission just sits as a blank screen until I alt tab to desktop and then come back in.

I'm having a weird issue with this patch (and the previous one) where my FPS will be chugging along just fine, and then for no reason at all, regardless of whats happening on screen, it will dip into the single digits for a few seconds to a few minutes and then randomly switch back. I know it's nothing on my PC that's causing this issue.

Also, the CEM RPM bug remains on the Spitfire and other planes. The AI also still pulls wildly impossible maneuvers. Oh and of course voice commands do not work.

I hope all of these things are on the to do list for the next patch. Especially the CEM bug, which is a game-breaker.

This patch gave me a great performance.To me one of the bests!

Neverthrless an new issue occured.
Since that patch some of my controls react very slow or lagged.
When the misison start the throttle is not directly present, some other keys aswell.

I am using the X52 and its software.

Thanks for the patch Luthier,i have came across a new problem since the new patch,when i enter into clouds i get serious bad flickering,when i exit the cloud the flickering stops,also i am still getting the three blue line,s in the sky,one more thing the buildings look very blocky on sight seeing over london mission,i have building amount on medium,and building detail on medium also,FPS seems better but,i have noticed that ground dust while taking off and landing has a big impact on FPS still,Anyway thanks again luthier:)

thanks for the effort lutier, but htings just got worst.

back to stutters and laaaag. i was runnign rather smooth previusly.

Fullscreen doesnt work. i have to alt-tab in and out the game after plressing fly. i onyl see black screen otherwise.

that new fullscreen was the problem for me, i changed it back to pseudo and my missions and screens all came back :)
still lags like a bitch over land on everything low, gonna play about over the channel for a bit.

will keep an eye out for more updates tho, maybe you guys need to dump this engine and redesign it from the bottom up, or move over to WoP type engine.

Much better performance for me after terrible Beta2 what was unplayable for me because terrible stutter. It stutter with this patch too but it's really playable. TextureFlickering is not here anymore like it was Beta2. Only groundshadows flickers same way as allways, it's looking so bad i disable them, it's shame that it disables worderful cockpit shadows too :(

Now with Fullscreen = on at least my Vsync is now working correctly too, no tearing anymore like i had before this patch.

at first run it was very smooth, on Le Havre on a 109 heavy stutters. Stopped the game, cleaned the cache and on a Hurricane on Dover with details maxed out the game is smooth like silk. The CEM is working properly now, but I think that the spit and the other plane should reach higher altitudes, however 23.000ft without epileptic shaking at full CEM is not so bad. Also with the 109 at full CEM I'm not able to go over 7000m, but the engine si working good.

Yet another improvement for me. Not massive as it was ok before. Frame rates up a little but whole game seems much more stable. Not any real improvement in AA especially of cockpit frames but landscape is crawling a lot less and flickering shadows under trees way better but intermitant flickering shadows under clouds. Aircraft seem clearer and sharper and even easier to spot and identify. When coming in on a bombers six they look more solid with less of the broken up look they had before. Haven't tried the FM improvements as yet but first quick impression a big thumbs up.

Initial impressions, I got extra 5 FPS after patch. I only had a quick sightseer tour of London but all seems good.
Cannot exit MP had to use taskmanager.
Lost sound in MP (could be my PC but never happened b4)
Got spit to 22000ft,

Perhaps my moderate rig an Nvidia card just hit the sweetspot,

Stuttering is back with this patch. Game became unplayable with this update. Also no SLI working. Reverted to previous patch version in order to be able to play at all.
Disapointment!
Also there is a bug wich doesnt let you back into main optionscreen once you have connected to a online server. "EXIT" Button is simply without function. Have to kill task in order to get out of the game.

UPDATE: I just tried in Singleplayer. Freeflight above france - no Stuttering.
Then i connected to Kampfverband 13 Full real server (latest betapatch) and had the bad stuttering again.
So must have something to do with the Multiplayer.

GTX 480 Tripple SLI (disabled since it doesnt work - not even wiht newest betapatch)

Have had a quick look, I jumped straight online on Syndicate server (also updated).

Good news: Bf110 now works properly again

Bad news: Full screen doesn't work well for me. Hitting 'create' takes me back to desktop (with game running still) meaning i have to Alt-tab back. Also exit doesn't work from MP, i have to use Task Manager to shut down game.

Alt-tab doesn't work well.

Like I say these are first very quick impressions (I had to go out!). Will raise any other issues I find.

That all being said, thank you for your efforts.

What i just noticed, now with mirror on i got terrible stutter, when i turn it off stutter go away right away?? not that problem before, i usually fly without mirror but i have tested it before and no stuttering with mirror then, now when i put mirror on, terrible stutter, when i disable it stutter is away again right away. So all who got stutter now try disable mirror.

I've seen a few people write about disabling the mirror, but I have not seen an option on any of the menus to do so. Can you explain?

... thks for job Luthier, but this beta have me more problems, in online cant exit the game, and cant management plane any ammo.... and me more slowdowns and only up a few fps when i play off line...

I hope the game improves for new patch.

And other question ¿dont patch to SLI?

Default key to switch mirror modes is "m", there tree modes full/low quality/off

The mirror is draging the GPU a lot, so if you are short of GPU power disable it.

Yeah, but i tested it before not hit on my machine at all, but now when i enable it, sametime my game starts stutter, then i disable it and smooth again. Weird but i can live without it because its so ugly:)

Hi! Downloaded it and make a quick test. Fbs is now better. No more slow fbs above Le Havre. Didn´t found anything to complain. Dont know yet is the rpm-issue in brittish campaing fixed... Its biggest step forward since the first patch. Is there any hopes getting Mosquito or Westland Lysander to game in future patches?

Engines usually shake when they are misfiring due to sequence or fuels problems.. When they over heat they tend to make a horrible grinding sound then get very quiet :)

Thats a driver issue.. it happens.. hopefully it can be resolved with commo with ATI

Because it doesn't happen to nVidea cards.. so something is reacting with the ATI cards badly but not the nVidea cards.. When I say "Driver Issue" I'm not saying its ATI fault.. something in the driver from ATI isn't liking what the game does..but nVideas driver is ok with it.. thats all :)

I got just the opposite. It was terrible before:?:?, but only when the harbour itself was visible. Now its just fine. Well, devs have really hard job to make it work to everyone....:confused:

1) Periodic stutters in MP. FPS drops to 20 for 0.5-1s and jumps back to 50. Period of low FPS varies with server. Single player is smooth.

2) "Exit" button in MP UI does not work. Other users complained about problems with selecting base/creating plane too.

3) Occasionally sound disappears completely. So far I have experienced this only in MP.

I treid again a resolution at 1680x1050 and full screen.
But as soon as i press "ESC" the windows increases and is half black, half ingame (horizontal)and a part is desktop.
At the end it leads again to Launcher.exe stopped working.

True fullscreen does not work, i see desktop on clicking load as before but now i have to actually Alt-Tab and re-click on the icon because i get black screen after seeing desktop.
AA not working. I dont understand why a statement is made saying its fixed when clearly all you have to do is load a mission to see it is not.
I get no gains from this patch, it seems the negative aspects are still there, on reviewing the changelist it seems the changelist consists of all the other patches too.
Only thing i didnt try is flying over cites.

hope you and the team get a break for this run of bad luck.

When 11.5 catalyst drivers are out it will tell us a lot.

Just bought Arma 2. There is lot of issues also, Ati is working there better than Nvidia. Well, as Nvidia owners used to do in Arma 2, they installed older drivers in their machines. And get a good or decent performance. Just want to say that its worth of trying to try drivers like dated in last december or so. Or realise drivers if a new card.. And when they solved the problem move to back to recent drivers...Well, its just suggestion, but I feel for you, all Ati-owners. Ive had many good Ati cards in my case in last 15 years...

Luthier with this beta you said if we experience some stutters over cities to lower our option for buildings details.....why....with previous betas i have everything on high and very high with excellent performance and i dont want to lower my settings....:rolleyes:
i have some freezes and stutters over cities and the multiplayer is a mess...many lags freezes and stutters and if i hit the exit thats it,....no exit
i have to alt-ctrl-delete to get away:!:
i hope you fix this issues and many thanks for the hard work guys:-)

U too! :) Try to switch off Hyper-thread from bios. Does it any good? Ive noticed that lot of players that cant get it work has i7. This game uses max 4 cores so there is no use extra 8...

I have to say there's quite a lot of work before it will be polished enough to be 'final' but ATM it's quite nicely playable.

I'm barely trying to follow a course in the Spit but it's really difficult.

I saw in the readme that this patch had performance increase for 4+ cores.

how about fixing ai and flight model? airplanes flying with half vertical missing and not struggling, but flying combat manouvres, and ai flying straight and level when attacking it...

no wonder SU-26 went canceled...the fm is just too flawed to be useful.

SLI not working for me, 2nd GPU showing at idle. Rebooted cleared cache ect. Am using latest nvidia drivers.
MP framerates are scattered, going anywhere from 2-32 with no gradual increase-decrease in between, tried taking off from same airfield in FMB and fps was steady at 37.
Also have the no exit button in MP that others are having, have to kill the game in task manager.

SLI not working.
Hard to fly over LeHavre and lod problem with the industrial area (factory and fuel tank desappearing depending by angle of view).
Multiplayer unplayable due to stutter and low frame.
Exit dos not work in multiplayer.
Not found more improvement :mrgreen:.
Better luck next time.

Full screen gives lower fps, numerous buttons in the GUI do not work.. exit for example.

Pseudo full screen removes these issues.

The main problem i have is land water graphical problem: new issue with tis patch. I deleted my cache.. no difference.

It seems to be a little bit better in terms of framerates in CF (2x5850), but only in pseudo full screen. There are no more stutters. Thanks for another patch, though I apply them with more and more fear :-)

It works fine 10-15 min then stuttering heavily and the micro stutters by close flyby not gone :( .
Not stable for me.
And the ai planes makes little warps when he fly a roll.
Many microstutters when i shot on a plane and hit them but not every time :confused:.
