Poll: ATI cards clock speeds

Hello
It seems ATI cards are limited in speed with ClOD. (eg 500MHz on a 4890 usually running 870MHz)
Also ATI users do not see much of an improvement in the BETA patch.

This poll to see if this is always the case or not.

In order to answer , you can measure core GPU speed using GPU-Z (using export to text file function, or graphs)

NB: when clock speed is limited , it can be overcome by several methods.
I did so using ATI tray tools, "overclocking" my card to the 870MHz speed. And game is playable again :)

I did have the issue that the speeds didn't ramp up for CoD.

It turned out that it was Flash player prohibiting the card.

I turned off "enable hardware acceleration", and all is good.

That improved my performance of course.

increasing to stock value with no tweak

With a 6870 and Catalyst 11.3.

Letum 04-08-2011 02:43 PM

My HD58xx is running at full clock speeds with no tweaks.

I'm using ATI tray tools.

What are you doing with ATI tray tools if you've made no tweaks?

Psycho_Ch!cken 04-11-2011 11:36 AM

My 6950 idles at 450MHz, blasts up to the full 800MHz when first loading the game, then crashes back to 500MHz once the menu loads and that's where it stays forever after.

As an aside, the beta patch gave me a very significant boost in fps with a moderate reduction in stutters. Then the actual live patch apparently reversed everything from the beta patch and sent my fps to new depths, with worse stuttering than I have ever encountered. It used to be semi-playable over water. It's now completely unplayable anywhere.

Same, but with a 5870.

CBA_Bludawg 04-11-2011 11:30 PM

im running a powercolor 5870 thats already factory OC and i get anywhere from 110 to 120 FPS

luft 04-12-2011 01:44 AM

Then I use the 6870 with Catalyst 11.3, does not exceed 300 MHz, without using ATT (When you start the game, makes an attempt to get to 900 MHz, but upon entering the main menu down again to 300)
Forcing with ATT, the game is more or less smooth, with light stutter

820 gpu 1325 mem
how many cores running when playing game?

CBA_Bludawg 04-12-2011 02:30 AM

im running all 6 cores unlocked on my cpu, and turbo enabled.

(note i just got into a multi player game for the first time and i was hitting around 75 fps and ran smoothly**** In Campaign im hitting 110 to 120.)

i have sfsmod and nossao_mod installed by Kegetys, (http://www.kegetys.net) and no stuttering

in game vid.settings 1920x 1080
aa set at 4
model high
visual effects high
grass off
anti eps. off
everything else is medium

had it limited to 507 mhz dont know why with catalyst 10.9, updated to catalyst 11.3 and its now correct. improved my fps too, thanks for bringing this issue to my attention, had those crappy drivers for a long time.

have a 4870 2x 1 Gb ddr5 by the way.

coopdeo 04-15-2011 04:00 PM

My 5870 clocks down to 400 mhz (from 850) for some reason. Is there an easy fix for this issue? I'm using the 11.4 beta driver.

Triggaaar 04-15-2011 11:38 PM

Mine is still stuck at 500 MGHz clocks, which is a bit of a pig. I'm not sure if the dev team are addressing it.

TonyD 04-15-2011 11:50 PM

Never had the problem, but am running MSI Afterburner (mainly for a modified fan profile, but have tweaked the core and memclocks too)

Triggaaar 04-18-2011 06:17 PM

Has anyone got a solution to increasing their minimum clock speed? I really need to fix it so I can spend some hours, rather than minutes, flying.

ATI Tray tools allows me to increase the minimum up to 880 if I increase the voltage to 1.175, but after the game finishes I don't know how to set it back to default, and ATT ends up crashing and being a general pain.

Thanks

What Card? Which Flash player?
How do you turn off enable hardware acceleration?

According to AMD, the 11.4 beta driver was issued to address some specific issues with the 6-series cards. I'm using 11.3 with no such issues, although I am using MSI's Afterburner as stated previously. This is a mildly customised version of RivaTuner, and works with most modern cards if you want to give it a try:

Flanker35M 04-18-2011 08:51 PM

S!

My 6970HD seems to go for full speeds, checked with AMD's nice little resource monitor.

Triggaaar 04-18-2011 10:09 PM

When I load MSI afterburner you can change your maximum clock speeds etc, but there's no way to force the minimum.

Anyway, I seem to have ATI Tray Tools working at the moment.
Right click on icon in tray
select Hardware, Overclock Settings
Drag core speed to your standard max (880 for me)
Increase voltage with the drop down selection (1.175 for me)
Hit Apply
Play game
Go back into overclock settings
Hit 'Set Default Clocks' (instead of trying to set them back manually, which was causing me problems)

Phazon 04-19-2011 12:31 PM

My clocks don't clock up for Cliffs of Dover, so I have to force clock settings using MSI Afterburner. The unusual pseudo-fullscreen mode used by the game seems to be causing problems for the drivers. This is not surprising as most DirectX games are played traditionally in a full-screen mode as it offers the best performance.
