Gameplay vids update

As I promised today I made a several small videos from retail version.
My system specs are i7-860, 4Gb Ram, GTX470 and Win7 64 bit at 1920x1080x32.
I didn't make any special changes in the settings, just left everything as it was after installation.
And one more thing, I'm a very unskilled virtual pilot so please don't take them seriously in the field of realism and quality of flying.

The average FPS for all videos is 30, the lowest is 22 the highest 67.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yb2bsLj1LSE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYiwmV_IjxY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz7VEOTmwzE

Don't blame me for not very interesting gameplay, I simply didn't have time to prepare quality ones. I just want to show, that the game even in the current not optimized and polished version is still more then playable just from the box. And as Luthier stated today, the devs will do their best to support the project and create the game we all want to see.
Cheers

Thanks Nike-IT, much appreciated;)

Biggs 03-25-2011 08:24 PM

thanks for posting!!.. i assume these vids are from the version of the game with the anti-epilepsy filter?

meshuggahs 03-25-2011 08:26 PM

Cheers. Good to see the GTX470 works ok since I have one :-)

major_setback 03-25-2011 08:26 PM

Thanks for taking the time to do this!
:-)

Hecke 03-25-2011 08:27 PM

Thx for these videos

Was the epilep. filter switched off?
What settings?

Yep, as I said I left default settings. Everything on normal and activated shadows, forest and etc.

How did you record?

Taken with Frapps, unfortunately I found out very late that the FPS counter is not displayed in the video:(

Bwaze 03-25-2011 08:29 PM

Thank you very much Nike-It, that's a similar system to mine, and the same graphic card. Glad to hear that it is playable.

Siko 03-25-2011 08:29 PM

Thanks Nike-IT.

I have almost exactly the same specs (barring a Radeon 5770) instead so will be pretty happy if it runs like that.

What options are you running?

Feuerfalke 03-25-2011 08:30 PM

Cool. You hear the impacts of the attacked plane via radio oO

Nice graphics and FPS for default-settings. Can't wait to fiddle around with the settings myself :)

Thanks for taking the time to record and post the videos for us.

wow so with both the anti-epilepsy frame-rate-killer AND the Fraps (also a frame-rate-killer) you were able to average 30FPS!?

are are so many people with somewhat comparable rigs as yours having such an issue?

Are they just not managing their settings properly?

T}{OR 03-25-2011 08:36 PM

Thanks for posting the videos Nike-it.

Is there a chance you could do a video with a Filter ON and OFF?

thats not possible... as it hasn't been officially removed yet...

why does everyone assume that it can be toggled all of a sudden?... nowhere on this forum or any other has anyone from 1C said anything about the fix being implemented already.

they are still working on it.

akodonnell 03-25-2011 08:41 PM

What is the bottleneck that causes the slight stuttering in the framerate when over the town?

These are my specs:

i5 2500K @ 4 GHz
GTX 560 Ti Superoverclocked
8 Gb RAM

will this run things without any stutter?

There is, but only on Monday. Will be far from PC during weekend

And one small secret, most of the videos for diaries and podcast were taken on the very similar configuration:) So draw a conclusion)

Where did I say it has to be posted "yesterday"? :) When and if possible, it would be nice if Nike-it could do it. I am asking politely.

I'm quite happy to play at 1024x on my crt.

It sees it will be ok for me (4 Gig memory).

Clostermann 03-25-2011 08:56 PM

Thanks a lot for the posts and videos. Do you know if this filter can be disabled also in the international version, or only in the russian version?

Shrike_UK 03-25-2011 09:05 PM

well, i'll buy it based on that, soon as i get my new GTX460 superOC in a few weeks. looks like i should be able to run it medium settings till i get a new motherboard/CPU and ram sorted out.

(If not, luckily I don't live too far from Russia, so I can hop into a train and come to buy a copy for myself)

kendo65 03-25-2011 09:25 PM

Thanks a lot Nike-it. Much appreciated and very nice looking.

Good to hear some aircrew sound chat too.

This flyer is starting to feel a whole lot better.

Noticeably improved engine sound in those vids too. Some of the complaints about the engine sounds don't seem to have realised that we haven't seen any good 'flypast' shots yet. We keep seeing fixed external-position shots that keep track with the plane - and those won't have any doppler effect. Original il-2 had a 'flyby' view (F3 was it?). Does CoD?

Or will someone have to open the fmb, position a camera and then record a track?

---that's not a question to Nike-it by the way, who has already performed well beyond the call of duty, and probably deserves a promotion or something. :) I was just thinking out loud

Luffe 03-25-2011 09:26 PM

Many thanks for the vids and info.
I feel a bit more optimistic about the whole thing now.

kalimba 03-25-2011 09:34 PM

Well, just for the fun of it ;) :

I7 2600K is about 40% faster than the I7 860 in games

GTX 580 is about 60 % faster than the GTX 470

8 gig of memory ..well ...don't know but should help !
SO , once the code is "fixed" I guess COD could rock...if you spend the money:rolleyes:

Salute !

Well, so it was another storm in a water glass again. If you get the optimisations that Ilya's talked about in the next patch all is very good for a 1.01. As usual this forum exploded after a few rumors and the usual suspects shouted that they will cancel their pre-orders...

Sauf 03-25-2011 09:45 PM

Thx Nike-it

150GCT_Veltro 03-25-2011 09:50 PM

External sounds are from IL2...........so he was right.

Thank for the video.

I'm thinking the same thing. I have a CRT and will gladly play at 1024 x 768. I might try 1280 x 960. Seeing these videos and being willing to play at a lower resolution doesn't make me feel terrible. Admittedly, I'm using a duo core 6700, ATI Radeon 4850, and 4 Gigs ram... Win XP svc 3.

I'm not sure I'll be able to upgrade before summer so I feel confident of quick missions in the mission builder.

Thanks Nike IT. Appreciate the effort and time.

Yes, but were those videos not done with a longtime render, ie. not in real time?

Were your videos done in real time? Ie. is what we are seeing what you saw?

Richie 03-25-2011 11:06 PM

Thanks very much for putting those up.

good vids, take it that text can be disabled at top thats anoying for me.

choctaw111 03-25-2011 11:38 PM

Thanks for the videos, Nike.
Did you notice any stuttering when you were messing around with the game?
It seems to run fairly well on your system.

GloDark7 03-25-2011 11:42 PM

The building pop-up in the first video is dreadful and seems to happen all over, not just at a certain distance. Can it be adjusted?
Happens with the trees also...

yea i am noticing the same, and the worrying part of it is that the player is on an i7 cpu and even if the gfx card is not top of the line it has 1gb in ram iirc. lots of texture fill rate issues to, once the buildings pop up you can see the textures filling in blocks as the players plane gets closer to them

this was not an issue at all in the older video previews we had see so far, so without the ubi-filter and fraps draining further fpsec's we should be ok. the way it stands right now my little i5 and 5770 card (1gb mem) doesnt stand a chance. lets keep the faith a little longer however, with the ubi filter removed and without fraps we should be ok, fingers crossed :) hopefully in the next few days we'll hear further news on fixes for this provided in the first patches, gives us enough time before the due release date in the west to decide

Kankkis 03-26-2011 06:49 AM

Looks good, only drawing distance is too small

zauii 03-26-2011 08:21 AM

This is very nice, i actually really like the external sounds as well, thanks Nike-It.
I don't think it sounds like the original IL2 sounds at all tbh, gj.

tomandre81 03-26-2011 09:47 AM

This is what the game looks like on normal settings? You got to be kidding me. The Ultra pack 2.1 in Il2 looks better than this (okay maybe a bit over-drama but anyway)
Look the way the ocean / water hits the ground...looks just like it is patched over. Look at the buildings pop-in. The colours. horrible.
Rise of flight who came out in 2009 looks 10 times better than this on MEDIUM settings!
I play rise of flight now with highest settings and people I know who is not into flight sims bought a new computer because of it and got hooked cause it is so damn realistic and looks so damn good.
But I will buy this anyway. Cause i love battle of britain, and I love spitfires and ww2 in general.
But god, I really hope it doesnt look like this when I fire it up

maclean525 03-26-2011 10:12 AM

These videos give me hope. Thanks for posting. Hopefully the sim will be ready to go by the international release date.

I have RoF too since first day and agree with you domian.
Besides,RoF was a worst failure than CoD at launch and see in what a bealtiful sim it turned now.
Have faith and support the team.
If I could I fix the flaws by my self, but as I am a complete ignorant in software programming, I do my part giving my dollars to MG as a form to help them to work on this.
That's my opinion,of course.

vanderstok 03-26-2011 11:07 AM

I have to agree, I'm a bit disappointed with how the buildings pop up. The cartoon colours have always been a concern of mine and it turns out they haven't changed it! Someone in the dev team is half colour blind I'm sure!
But I pre-ordered it anyway, because it will still be good even if it's just IL2+.

Yes, Rise of Flight was nowhere near as good at launch as it is now. But there is one difference: because of the online model of RoF they have released update after update (note: an update is not a patch!) making things better and better and adding more and more content. Almost every month/two months there was/is something nice to look forward to.
If CoD follows the same release plan as IL2 did then it will be quite some time before we see any major improvements. That has me worried a bit...(so it better be good!)

Avimimus 03-26-2011 11:16 AM

Il-2 was one of the first (if not the first) sim to follow such a pattern. If anything, RoF copied Oleg...

Then you must play RoF on LOW settings then. Or you have to check your eyes. If not that you are a fanboy.
When ROF first came out in 2009 it was unplayable for me. I tried it now two weeks ago and it ran like a charm. I play it an highest settings.
There is something special about this sim. The sounds, the physics, the realism, the nice graphics. It is like I can just fly for hours looking around and enjoy the scenery. And the damage model is insane.
My impression of COD now after watching youtube videos is not good.
I hope I can run il2 COD on highest settings and that it doesnt stutter.
If not I will forget about this game and wait until it has been fixed

LOL what a contradiction you just slagged off CLOD for exactly the same reason you haven't played ROF since it came out, when we see CLOD with its settings at max and running smoothly you will see that they look the same... both amazing and as time progresses CLOD will look much better.

But that said due to the WW2 aircraft in CLOD a lot more work has had to go into making CLOD than into ROF aircraft.

Why do you repeat what I said myself? I said: "If not I will forget about this game and wait until it has been fixed"

So in a year or two I shure will be getting Il2 COD.
But knowing my weak self, I know when it will be available on steam 31 mars I will click on "buy" and download it :o

has anyone played in bad weather settings? is there lightning possible with the epi filter? i used to love flying in severe wind and thunderstorms.
