DRAFT: BOP Fairplay Policy Agreement
Hello Player!
I think it would be fun and hopefully helpfull to write and sum down some idea of a "general BOP fairplay policy" ( lol ) Please don't take this too seriously :) This is just a game and people are free to behave as they want. Or just a list of things that you really appreciate while playing our fav sim game on consolle :-P There's my list: Game hosting: I try to host a "funny" game, that's very personal, but, maybe, several 10 minutes games cycling trough different maps/weather/game type would be more fun to play compared to one unlimited time but 300 point limit 1940 attack game. Plane choosing: * Pick a fair plane, compared to the room players. ( If everybody is flying E3, do not pick an LA7 or a spitfire MK100.000 lol ), if unsure, ask to the host * Do not pick a bomber in a dogfight game. Cheating: DO NOT: Try to land your plane if damaged. Crashing with landing gear down will 90% steal your enemy kill credit. Bail out instead. DO NOT: Auto destroy your plane dropping a bomb close to the ground if damaged. Bail out instead. DO NOT: Use auto gunners while flying a bomber. DO NOT: Use fixed enemy respawn point to get advantage over him. DO NOT: Crash if you're not able to evade your pursuer, or to respawn in a better position. Dying * Bail out if your plane can't fly anymore. Do not just wait for the ground to kiss you, or try to land. Bail and let your enemy score! Crashing Avoid crashing at any cost. If your enemy took you at ground level, consider crashing very seriously. Let him kill you, he/she deserve it, do not crash instead. Team fighting *Do not steal your friend's target, but help him if it's in trouble clearing his six. * If unsure, do not open fire. Confirm any target before shooting. * Balance the team in the lobbyroom, assigning experienced players as enemy in different team. Game leaving Do not QUIT unless you have too ( black outs, router crashing ... ) If you do, at least say good bye :-) I am sure i'm forgetting something... i'll add later heeh have fun! |
On Team Fighting, it is annoying to have kill taken away. Once in Arcade, I follow the same plane for 20 minutes once, here my team mate comes flying in and finishs it in no time. So I shot him down which took less then 5 minutes.
I think for a fair game, the weather should be set to Storm. Following everyone close to the ground for the entire game gets very dull. This would make spotting easy for everyone and not just the person with the better TV. |

It was my I-16 against a He-162, which I only got it to smoke. Jets shouldn't even have been put into the game. Fly over the Berlin campaign, and there are hundreds of them.
|
Nice 1 vdomini. Makes sense.
Honouring. |
100% support this, on with the draft.
|
now all we need is the secret BoP police to write tickets to offenders! or 20 snacks with a wet herring!

Just randomly bailing out is NOT good if you are on xbox. If you bail out you will deny the person their kill. Staying in the plane is better because you give the shooter more time to get enough damage on you to count the kill. To give someone a kill by bailing out on xbox isn't simple. You have to bail out within 3-4 seconds after having a part of your plane made black. If you bail out after that you will crash. So you have to be real quick in the menu. If you bail out when the part is red you will crash too. Most people arn't quick enough and crash, so its just better not to bail if you don't have the skill. |
bailing out
I remember our conversation well Pope, bailing out is not a kill giver on the xbox due to a lack of patch.
However i think i should be made clear again because not every knows how to bail out 1 Press start 2 bail out should be just above quit mission option Bailing out all the time requires quick reflexes, so it is entirely forgivable in low (treetop level) altitude dogfights not bailing out as a well placed shot to a control surface will but you in the ground before you realise. I back this agreement and have been playing this way for some time.... however is only really fair when everyone plays fair so take that into account aswell |
I'd like to add:
DO NOT: Park your plane on the airfield when you have captured it. Get airborn and defend it! This may be a bit off topic, but it is about bailing... I fly the 109's quite a lot, and have noticed that when I bail after being shot a bit up - the result is "McQ59 crashed". The same happens when I get shot up close to the deck; My plane spins around and hits the ground before I can give the bail-command, with the same result, a crash. It has made me wonder; Is it the damagemodel on the 109's that is the problem here? It seldom happens when I fly the spit or any other plane, but it has even happend when my 109 has got a hit and the engine's gone dark red/ black and is smoking. Anyone else who has wondered about this? |
I would like to add:
Capture Airfields Do not kamikaze pilots sat on the airfield. If you are in a diving strafe and realise you cannot pull up then crash away from the grounded player If everyone in the lobby has rockets or guns equipped please don't take bombs into the game |
In Strike:
Don't ram targets just because you're out of bombs. Don't ram targets just because you're shot up. |
very interesting observation McQ! i have to agree and it makes sense. i have been on both ends of this and am going to have to pay more attention to the planes when it happens. but it seems to work both ways...i shoot the heck out of someone and they go in as a "crash"....or i get shot to $#!t and it robs the guy of the kill. then on the oppositeside of life there are some ac that are made of paper...1 hit and it registers a kill. it must not be a PS3 flaw exclusively.
|
Cool observation bobby. I'm not sure it's a flaw. Not necceseraly. It amazes me sometimes. And shames me. It's a lot of guys out there that knows how to shoot in motion, so I die a lot too...
But back to the 109... I thought maybe it could be the devs that gave them a little different "touch" than the british birds. I love theire moves anyway... |

This draft, it will take some time. |

I'm not sure how you Xbox players have it but I could be waiting a whole hour just to find more then one player to play with. As far as I know I have spent more time waiting for players then playing the actual game. But I guess thats just the time zones. Strangely enough I find more Americans in the game then Russians, big inconvenience to me.
So with limited ammo on, you have four bombs and your enemy has eight, the only thing you can do once your out of bombs and keep ahead of the game you have to crash your plane to get more bombs. Unless your a good pilot and can shoot down a enemy B-17G in a average 10 seconds, there is no way you can win without crashing your plane for more bombs. |
Quote:
That is of course unless you're trying to unlock the bombs for the 51D etc |
Quote:
With limited ammo on I can still choose my bombload- B17 can take upto 16, admittedly 500lbs, heinkel he111 can take up to 32. So why would you limit yourself to 4??? Plus as soon as my complete loadout is used up, be that limited or otherwise I bail and get a new plane. If you're in a 10min and it's limited ammo why waste time lining up your plane for a kamikazee, it's much more efficient to have a new plane and bombload that waste 30seconds ramming a target. And there's always plenty of guys I know playing, at all hours. You seem to be aligned more with the American's judging by your posting times on here so you miss the peak European times 7-11pm gmt which I thought would perhaps be more suitable for Russian. |
I'm just saying, if you bail out the plane will fall to earth either way. Might as well ram it and make use of it. If you want I suppose you can bail out just before you ram the target.
|
Quote:
If you're that desperate for points then ram away, I thought this thread was about playing as gentlemen. |
Second that Gilly.
It's a big difference to me to play good and entertaining games, and to go into each mission with the overall goal to win it at any cost. That said... Of course I like to win! In fact I love it, but I love the good times with good friends that this game gives me more than any occasionally "Mission succeeded" (or whatever it says in the end of each mission). I guess I'm just getting old... |
Hit the nail perfectly on the head McQ.
Perfect example was last nights BoB game. No winners or losers just a damn good laugh. |
Of course, it should be avoided. It doesn't feel right to just bail out without compensating for -1 points to your team though.
Perhaps the no ramming should only apply to Simulator players then? |
Quote:
If you want to ram then be my guest, fill your boots if 1 point makes such a difference. |
Every point counts towards a win. In a CTA game, where no one is letting the other team land, you can expect to see dogfighting only where every plane that crashes counts as -1 point.
If you feel that one point doesn't make a differance, then go ahead and bail out. I however would want to put a plane without any ammo or fuel to use. It has been done several times during WWII. And not some pile of rusted metal to be found 65 years later. |
Quote:
Anyway knock yourself out, ram away if it makes you happy. If that's what they did during the war who am I to argue. Did they respawn 5 seconds after dying with a new plane and bombload too? |
No, they didn't. They normally landed and re armed themselves.
In the case of my uncles IL-10 over Berlin however, he could have bailed out when he was out of ammo and fuel, and risked the plane falling down onto friendly posistions. Instead, he crashed it into a street taking out two King Tigers. I say, by all means ram the target. There is nothing wrong with it. |

What regiment was he in? |
A little off topic, but I have no idea what regiment, or formation since I was told about it 40 years ago. I'm sure it is documented, I might find it if I ask to see some files but I doubt it. But from what I was told he did crash his plane into enemy posistions, destroying two tanks.
Like I said, it has been done. The Luftwaffe pilots would bail out before they crashed their plane into a target. So I see no reason why reenacting this in the game would be unfair. |
Quote:
One of more awesome moments in a strike game happened the other night. We were playing 4 or 5 Blenhiems against 6 german ships with 3 109 fighters. Limited ammo. Germans won if they didn't lose all their tickets, British won if we took all 300 german tickets. No bailing from undamaged planes or crashing on purpose. I few a blenheim and went for a level bombing at 13,000 ft , dropped my 2 500lb'ers and turned back to land at hawkinge. Just before I reached the coast BeaverCompany's 109 suprised me and shot up my wings and number 1 engine went out giving me 0% throttle before I was able to kill him with my rear gun. I glided all the way back to hawkinge losing 12000 ft in the process, and touched down succesfully right on the start of the runway at stalling speed. That felt really good. I can't remember how the game finished, it didn't matter. I can tell you, giving yourself a challenge makes the game far more fun. If you get damaged over the enemy bunkers, try to get back over a imaginary front line. See how far you can get back, and know if you bailout under 1000ft your crew are going to break bones. |
yes there are cases of pilots ramming in ww2,but as the thread states, its about fair play, and ramming isnt appreciated in this game.
|
that is why i like a game where all the rules are known up front. and that mostly happens when you play with a select group of friends who share the same interest and opinion.
if i had an uncle that took out 2 tiger tanks with an unloaded ac...i would know the whole history about that...pictures, letters, anything i could find. but that is just me. |
Quote:
|
as long as others are playing the same rules...knock yourself out, man. just know it might not be tolerated across the board and in every game. something you may wish to talk about in the lobby prior to starting.
|
I'll look up a few millitary aviation handbooks if I remember. I'm sure, one will say "If out of ammunition and fuel, have all crew members but pilot eject, and then ram the target".
It is not unfair or dishonorable in any way if you ram the target. |
You may be right my friend. The only 1 difference that Strikes my mind is that you'll live to tell.
|
I suppose I'll settle for that. But there are plenty of pilots out there, guess I'm just not used to the millitary of today that remembers people.
|
I must admit to playing darts in CTA sometimes.
You basically point your plane at someone on the runway and bail out at about 1000ft and see if you can get a bullseye before you respawn.. |
Here's my rough guide to the rules
You can pretty much go by the difficulty.. Arcade : Kill everything. Wanna dive into someone at 700mph? go for it.. no-one cares, kill your own team mates 'by mistake' (this is great fun!), wanna drop bombs on yourself? No problem! Whilst you're at it... Quitting in arcade is very nearly compulsary.. Realistic : Gets a little bit more serious here.. Realistic players like to play fair and will not tolerate any nonsense from anybody over anything whatsoever especially from the damned French! Bailing out is considered the proper thing to do, and most do (except the damned French!) Simulator : This is a bit like chess.. because it's mostly played at knee height. The rules are pretty relaxed because everybody's far too concered about where the hell everybody else is and keeping the bloody thing in the air. You can get away with murder in Simulator because nobody really has any ******* idea who the hell they are shooting at. It's the ideal mode for covertly shooting down team mates, ramming whatever`you like, hiding in bushes and then leaping out like Rambo... To sumarise anyone can be a prick in arcade but it takes skill to be a prick in Sim. (P.S I like the French) |
A Classic winny.
Cheers. |
This FPA seems to only work with dedicated groups and clubs, mostly on Sim.
Funny, how it is true no one really has a clue most of the time on Sim. I thought team A was colored red and team B blue, so I shot Olife down once. |

I know that there were only 3 regiments flying IL10's over Berlin- 571st, 108th and 118th for a total of 120 aircraft. What date did it happen as this will narrow down the regiments. From what I've managed to track down there were between 10-15 IL10's lost during this period. I have already discounted 6 of these from german documents and will continue to narrow down. I also have a avid german tank nut of a mate looking at the King Tiger aspect. This should be easier as of early April 1945 there was only the SS tank battalion 503 using King Tigers in Berlin. There were only 13 operational so he reckons he can easily determine which tigers it was. As a side note by 30th April there were only 2 remaining of which one managed to disable or destroy 30 T34's!!! Couple of other things: You say your uncle ran put of fuel and ammo. As the range of the IL10 was in excess of 500miles how did he manage this as 'home base' would have been no further than 50miles outside of Berlin?? Did he or indeed his rear gunner survive the crash? |
The rear gunner survived but died later since he landed on a building. I mean absolutely out of fuel, as well. Me and my father never got along well, so I don't know much. Perhaps you could be willing to dig it up though, it doesn't really matter to me.

haha!!!...the frenchies,never happy,never serious,... how are u ace? |
Add something to team fighting:
Do NOT attack your own targets in Strike. I think everyone knows better to do that though. |

Well.. unless your on the Germans side then.

I meant if you wanted to stay true to history and lose the game as the Germans. I've never seen a glitch on the Berlin map.
|
isnt that the map where you have to bomb one of your own targets or something to that effect? i rarely play strike so i am just recalling something i read.
|
I suppose if you had to. Would suck if you had to do it with a 2000 kg bomb though.

That brings in mind something happened to me few nigth ago, concerning realistic game mode and french. I was playing BOP looking for some simulator match but none was going on, while i've recieved an invitation from a player named LEBRAVE something ( maybe lebrave50 ) to joing their game. Sadly, ( sadly for me, since i play only sim ) the game was a realistic match, so i quitted while i was still in the lobby, before the game started. Got invited again by the same player with a message saying "come on" and so i've decided to stay. Game was: Team battle game, 4 players, 3 of them french, ( lebrave, cassecouboi74 and pedro...something , not sure about the right name spelling ), 20 minute game, all of them in spitfire while i was in LA7. I picked team A but i wanted to play against cassecouboi because i used to know him for longer than other player in the room and quite sure about his skills compared to other present at the moment ( I like to play balanced and challenging team battles when possible, trying to find out, fight and hunt against the most skilled player available over the opposite team ), also, i've been reading about his "unfair" way to play on some other thread ( maybe the quitter one ) and wanted to prove that. He was hosting the game. What happened next is kinda funny... i took team A. he took team A. I switched to B. He gone to B too. ( in the meantime, all the 3 french player was talking in french using headset ) I went back to A, he did to... then i went to B and checked, and someone said in english "vdomini don't worry you are not alone" ( lol ) Then all the 3 player gone opposite team and game started. Me in LA7 vs 3 spit fire in realistic mode, 20 min game. I've decided to stay for no more than 10 minutes, then to quit. After those 10 minutes, i had scored 4 kills, they scored 0. The game was pretty boring. I wrote a message at lebrave but he replyed he didn't know how to speak english. I have nothing against the french, my aunt is french, i 've been studing in a french school when i was very young and i was able to learn how to speak french fluently, i love france and i totally adore Paris, i have many friend in france one of my best online BOP friend is Olife and he is a great and fair friend, but i have to admit that he is the only french pilot i like to fly with/against while playing BOP. |
C'est la vie :)
(And Olife is cool too) |

first great, millions thanks !!u are a super great pilot and friend and it is always very very hard and a super challenge to fly against u and a great pleasure to fly with u .u are very good meaning!! cassecouboy and lebrave are in my friend list and they are very sympathetic and great pilots i find ,never had a probs with them,i really surprised to hear all it about them... and i don t want to be idiot to open a stupid war of nationalites but i already heard a very bad words and insults (and not only in french!!but also in the first language of the world...) and a lot of those bad words were for me!!!!!don t know why!!!just look in some old threads of this forum and u will understand it is not only totally a "french touch " to be bad meaning!!even if many times for example in the big game of activision/treyrach..lol...u see what game i want speak..it was the shame to be french because of all the unpolite words i heard in french!!( in a game or in the real life we criticize others but we forget often what we are...)(of course vdomini i don t say it for u,cause i know your great valor of man and i have an italian uncle,i know and like the italian spirit) but i pardon...it is not very important...it is just a game just enjoy... |
Well said Olife, happens to me in Russian now and then.
So, adding this: No insulting other players because they are no good or because of their background. It doesn't affect fair play but all the same would be decent to have. |
Quote:
like i say when i start a il2 game,i m afraid,i m afraid of all the players, the aces, the news, the others,everybody...with their qualities and their defaults...it is the respect for all the online brothers in arms...and today if i meet a rookie one thing is sure,he will progress and he will beat me one day,it is just a question of time...it is the meaning of the hunting, never overrate his own personn and never underrate the others... |
Quote:
u are cool too and a flying demon with your spitfire!!! |
Quote:
|
i wont feel that way or refrain from playing. get an el cheapo mic and join the fun. when i first started i jumped in and told them right off i wasnt any good. the players didnt have a problem with that. you will get shot down a lot but you will also learn. i encourage new players to join...and try the different difficulties...real & sim.
|
I have myself a microphone, but it doesn't work on PS3. I would need to chop up some wire and attach a USB.
|
Quote:
u don 't spoil the play of the others because of your poor level.i think the guys who have experience never forget they started to play one day and they were rookies too ,personnaly i play since the game came out and i have my own big defaults of fly (a lot!!!)!!! u are able to understand the meaning of this game, now it is just a question of practice...sure the guys will cross your plane in the future will be afraid too...just a question of time... good hunting ace!!! |
Oh for Pete sake some of us don't take this that seriously. I am intoxicated 9 out of 10 times I play on line. I hope we all have fun.
