Wow, kinda glad I saw this topic. I was going to get HoE, but seeing as it's being bashed by other IL-2 fans, i'll buy NFS: Shift instead ;)

Mock HoE as you like, I bet we see a sequel for it though. That's not a guarantee for a failure like Sturmovik.

Are you insane sir?

It looks good, but it is lacking elsewhere. You can collide with a plane and just bounce off of them.

Notice the slowdown in this vid; it just gets worse as the game progresses through the missions. The last mission in the game, Berlin, is almost unplayable for long stretches because the game can't handle it.

I also notice the weird stats for the planes. Mosquito slow but high agility????
The Meteor with only 3/5 stars for speed??? thats just crazy. The P-51 with as much armour as a P-47???????
Damn the Thunderbolt was a tank, One shot in the right place could down a Mustang.

Its just all wrong.

Although I am happy that the gaming world feels there is a demand for WW2 air combat games, HOE is too arcadey for me (I have no PC sim exp). I honestly think that those who buy and enjoy HOE would really like BOP as it is just so much better. The gameplay in HOE is competely unrealistic.

I have HoE and will probably trade it in when Borderlands comes out. I love BoP but I also had a lot of nostalgia still for Heros over the Pacific, so I went ahead and got HoE and man was I let down. I knew it wasn't gonna be remotely sim but they really went over the top on this one. My guess is Ubisoft didn't have much of a hand in the development of this one because their other products of late have been quality and this one, not so much. it's sad really.

I returned my copy today to gamestop, and prepaid the new Halo.
Like I said, I am a huge HOTP fan and was looking forward to the sequel. The sequel is a complete let down, most likely the product of running out of Dev money.

Not trying to bash the game, just being honest. The game doesn't have features or menus present in the original game(and only 14 campaign missions), nor the variety in the online choices(only 4 modes and 4 maps).

Thanks for the review Fritz!! I am also a fan of "Heroes of the Pacific" and was hoping HOE was going to be a good. Seeing all the lack luster reviews has told me otherwise. Thanks for speaking the truth...

Does anyone know what happened? Several people have said they ran out of money, but wasn't Ubisoft behind them?
