I saw Oleg say in an interview that 'Cliffs of Dover' could have about a thousand planes in the air at one time. So I thought, mmm, I wonder what that looks like...

Using a GTX580 @ standard clocks and an i7 920 @ 3.8GHz. I've been finding it fascinating just seeing so many planes in the air. I've never seen anything like it. There's more stuff going on than you can look at, and more than you can see when they get spread out beyond your range of vision. They look like swarms of insects sometimes when they're massed in the distance. And when there are several hundred all randomly battling it out in one area it just a big furballing mess, with stuff literally raining down out of the sky. It's funny too though seeing multiple AI get fixated on chasing and shooting down one particular plane. You'd usually only see six or so of them doing it, but in this case there'll be something like fifty all trying to get in on it, a whole screen full of them massed together and hammering away one or two at a time at some hapless target. The fact that you can show so many planes in such detail certainly opens up a whole new range of options for the movie-makers out there. I imagine there are some of them cooking up stuff right now that will just blow us away. In terms of the maximum amount of planes you can load into a mission, I still don't know what the limit is. I'll probably try to find out, but time is limited and dabbling with this video stuff means not actually flying and having fun with the other aspects of the game, so, I don't know. |
if someone tried the new patch...pls post some videos on youtube or here! Naturally...indicate also the version and sys specs!
Thanks |

It's also recorded live with FRAPS, it's not a render out of the AVI exporter, which you seemed to be saying it was. It did take a while to make, but most of the time on it by far was spent on dubbing in the audio. And no, no filters were applied at all. You're welcome to your opinion of what you think is best and worth money, and you're free to express that opinion here. But please try not to talk sh** in order to try and justify those opinions, thanks. |

My main goal in making the thousand plane mission and making a video of it was to see if I could. I find the technology interesting. I put the video up on Youtube just in case others who have a similar interest might like to watch it. It also gives an insight into what the future might hold once computer hardware can handle what the sim is capable of. I understand what you're saying about the playable frame-rates, but you've got to understand that's not the only thing that matters for some people. As long as no-one is putting up video's misleading people it shouldn't be a problem, just live and let live, each enjoying the sim in their own ways. Sorry if you have a problem with it, but that's your business, not mine, and I don't really want to know about it. All the best. |
