..spit weathering
thank you kristorf:grin:
yeah, it is realy e shame! we both drowing beautyful spit`s, and then... sometimes i could cry. I can`t understand why it is not possible to do like this... 0% weathering looks like a spit on a airshow today. and 100% weathering look like the CLOD spitfire! so it goes for everyone! for me it is not .... i can`t understand!:confused::( |

Was playing around with combining several smaller shots into one larger one. The idea being to present a long vertical picture with content that sort of unfolds as you scroll down the page. But Imageshack wouldn't let me upload a big enough picture to do that, so...here's the test I did anyway, as large as I could make it, and an all-in-one version.

Thanks. Here's another one.

From another angle.
And smaller. http://imageshack.us/a/img208/2551/5...2bordered1.pngThe stitching is a bit rough I must admit, but I find the hardest part is trying to get the AI elements all in the right place at the right time to take the shot(s). There's definitely potential there though for making some epic action-filled panorama's. |
I like!
|
Nice idea Les.
|
Nice photos Les.
Here's a lucky Escape, after a collision, this Dornier pilot was able to fly his crippled bird home .. although the AI wasn't smart enough to realise the crew needed to bail once over friendly territory. http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ierEscape1.jpg . |

Thanks for the compliments. It's not an original idea to combine smaller pictures into a bigger one like this, I'm just playing around with the idea. Making these things is like solving multi-faceted puzzles.
Excuse me while I spam some more images. :) http://imageshack.us/a/img705/5229/81431714.png . |

And finally...
http://imageshack.us/a/img607/3060/0...ected330bo.png http://imageshack.us/a/img248/8435/1...ected310bo.png With a shot to show how big the long pictures could actually be if I could upload them somewhere... http://imageshack.us/a/img513/2986/0...5borderedt.png Has been fun. Would be good to set up some action to make full use of the extended viewing space, but it's all a bit time-consuming, so who knows... |
This game is full of potential...

Strange. Just noticed the last picture has disappeared. So has it's thumbnail in my list of pictures on Imageshack, but I can still view a small version of it there. Have uploaded it and will try to embed it again. |

Looking at these pictures I just have to say... this sim looks awesome! :-D
A majority here alway complains about the dumbed down graphics since the rewrite. I agreed with that in most parts refering to the former game versions. But these pics now look quite mature. Apart from that cloud shadows and high clouds are back. The canopy reflections are more intense as well I think. The lighting effects during dusk/dawn are fine. I am wondering what is now still missing compared to the release version? Just out of my head I could only list the following: - reflections of clouds/planes etc in the water below (which looked gorgeous, but also a bit unrealistic dont you think? at least in this intensity) - morning fog over the landscape - small calibre hit decals!!! Did I miss something? In my opinion the game now looks stunning and overall I'm satisfied graphics-wise. Correct me if I am wrong! ;-) |
[QUOTE=III/JG53_Don;468556...Did I miss something?...[/QUOTE]
There used to be a lighting effect on the planes that made them look more real and connected to their environment. If you look at the front half of the wings and the lower sides of the fuselage of the plane in the picture below, you can see the reflections there that show the effect. Those parts of the plane are in shadow but are still lit up a little bit by ambient light in the planes surroundings. It's no longer in the game and as a result the planes look more flat and artificial. It's probably regarded as trivial and low priority (like navigation and landing lights) but those sort of details can really add up and make the game a lot more immersive and realistic, for some people anyway. http://imageshack.us/a/img87/4313/se...09still186.jpg You can see the effect in action (and in original colour) in this video at 00:15 and 00:38. (It's easier to see when watching in expanded view on Youtube. Just noticed too there are lots of cloud reflections in the water as well in that video :)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BaR6qjKF6U |
ah I see, thanks Les! Its not totally eye-catching on first sight, so I must have missed it in the early days or just forgot about it :-)
But you're right, it adds a lot to the atmosphere allthough it is more like a unconcious perception |
Regarding the long vertical pictures, have you tried imgur.com?

Tryst me. It's day and night. This new lighting engine makes everything look like it's viewed through sun glasses....and a bad pair of sun glasses. Dawn and dusk colors are pitiful. All that beautiful orange light, giving such nice natural orqnge hue to everything from clouds, to water, to grass and fields, was replaced with a murky dark gray mess.:( Reflections are almost gone. The cockpits and skins lost a lot of the natral look. Just ask the skiners how bad did this 'new' engine mess up the colors on older skins. Shadows cloud shadows, and the subtle way shadows affected reflections are also gone. The best way to see the difference is to find an older version and try it yourself. It's like going ten years back in time. This is what you get when a lighting engine calibrated by a professionl photographer is "fixed" by artisticly impaired computer programers, that didn't see a sunset out in the country in a too long time. Let me remind you what we had: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_143915.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_143931.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_143951.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_144044.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_144038.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_144105.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_144934.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_145440.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_145506.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_145513.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_145520.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...910_145542.jpg |
these pics DO look terrific no question about that! Especially the combination of morning fog and dawn lighting look great :-)
Anyway I'd rather fly a sim with partly dumbed-down graphics like it is now and can actually FLY the sim smoothly than just look at the graphics, shout "WOW, it looks so beautiful" and then exit, because I can't actually use this as a game. Lets just hope that they are able to get at least some of it back (maybe in the sequel) without a loss in fps. |
Great shots Jaws!!...maybe someday that lighting will return

My earlier vershion plays just as well as the current beta, but the beta has a better sound...a real dilemma for me |
Ah I miss those graphics. I think when they redid the lighting to get rid of the Shrek green noon hour colors they fudged the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There was something truely fun about going for a solo morning flight with all the sunlight, clouds, and fog. I really wish they could bring that stuff back but with keeping the sounds and stability of the newer versions of the game.
I guess we can hope the sequel can deliver and return the channel map to greatness? |
Nice sunsets , but the sim delivers on action too:

Mission one of the RAF campaign. Shot down two Dorniers before expending all ammunition. Pistol whipped a third with my port side Brownings and chased the rest for a few minutes before disengaging and starting the long flight home. Flew a circut before dropping flaps and throttling right back for a nice landing on the grass.
