one other thing - the sub will start with 0 points, right, and thus will have an uphill battle to qualify?

I would be inclined to make an exception for whoever takes over and let them play the first weeks matches in the second week. It's only one round, they will not get the "missed the beginning of a film" feeling and everyone involved gets to play more BoP :)

Of course it doesn't affect me, so I guess it's down to edal and the participants involved.

Yes, new participant will continue competition as is and with 0 points. Everyone in group A and C has a shot at the Eliminatory stages (see the Qualification requirements) so even if you have 0 points you will still have an opportunity to redeem yourself.
The point of this group stage is to determine who you will play against on the playoffs. I will elaborate on this later today, also, I will post additional statistics.
*with this in mind, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, AND PRACTICE, as you can see from the group standings, players are pretty much even in skill. If you practice (spotting, and controlling your plane at low altitudes so you dont crash by accident) you may be able to get far :)

yes, Trk29 and philabong you guys are tied, but trk29 should be on top of philabong because trk29 has more kills (it is very unlikely that by the end of the group stage any two members of a group will be tied).

I want to thank all of your great and kind comments about how you guys are enjoying this tournament. Trust me, it has not been as complicated as it may seem. Yes, it takes time to record all scores and calculate your stats and results, but it is not affecting my daily plans at all.

I noticed other people, like haitch40, taking the initiative and organizing a realistic tournament, there is also an arcade one. These tournaments offer no reward and still they get a positive response from this community which shows how much you all trully enjoy this game. :)

I started these competitions in order to give life back to this game because I was not able to find any online matches and im happy to see il2 alive again :)

I notice that il2, being the small community that it is, needs organization so that the few players that have this game can find eachother online. So, if all goes well (and I find the time) I will definitely share with you SIM players another idea that I have for this game. I already have the foundations ready but im waiting for the patch to see how well this new competition will work with the new patch. First, lets finish "ace of aces tournament" and then I will see about posting my second project :)

Yeah great games :) I wish I hadn't crashed so much without provocation from you though lol.

I think when my engine died I had clipped some water with my belly or something (probably broke my prop). Whatever happened I was basically flying a glider before we even engaged. Less embarassing than flying into a tree for my first death of the first game though ;)

And shame on me for making the mistake of assuming you were plummeting to earth because you were streaming black smoke. That assumption cost me a life.

But full on kudos to you for scraping victory from the jaws of a draw in the last 5 seconds of the second round when you put a cannon shell straight through my engine block to cause a fireball before I even knew you were in a firing position.

* First of all I want to inform you all that Beamjimmy (Austria) will be replaced by MACADEMIC (Austria), so olife- and steyr_amr , add him because he will be your other opponent for this week.

* Week 2 Matches due date will be changed to December 1st, enjoy the Holiday :)

* (Also, Macademic is now on the Rest of Europe Group and has a traveling issue, so I will post his week's 3 opponents earlier so that he can play his 4 last opponents of the group stage before December 1st, because that is the day he needs to travel)

Hello everybody!

First of all thank you Edal for setting up this tournament. Since I'm rather new to this game I first learned about it only after it had already started. Thought it's a fantastic idea right away, so it's nice to join even late (and pick up the flag from Beamjimmy - I'm Austrian too).

Not a gamer usually, having got the PS3 for Blueray movies, but when I found IL-2 Sturmovik I couldn't resist. For the last week or so I've been hooked :grin: I met a lot of great pilots and the community of Sim players is just excellent. Thank you all for the many great flights and lessons.

So here I am, at the bottom of the ladder, but looking forward to playing with olife- and steyr_amr until December 1.

Think I,m going to format the thing (and lose all planes I guess): I once had a corrupted data msg but eject and reset made it work again... so maybe there's some major "hidden" files in the hard drive somewhere - could this be the laser? even tho it still reads BoP just fine?

How old is your ps3, would be the main factor... unless it's seen a lot of heavy use, it would be unusual for its laser to be wearing out already. I have a cecha-01 series 60gb, and it still works perfect.

If you hadn't told me last week that you'd extended the deadline, I would've played both, but I'd be a fool not to take my time, especially since you've had two close matches out of three this week.

I think dubbinenglish and irrelevant have already had their matches, I was online and saw them in strike mode twice, they even replayed the 2nd one for some reason. Dubbinenglish told me they split it 1-1.

it seems a bit unfair for an incommunicado forfeit to still get a point just cause they both do it.

Try lots of training against about 4 veteran opponents - and use the aviator control layout :)

i entered to try and get better but it hasnt worked :( oh well i will play still if you wish matches or a realistic tourny edal said i should make a realistic tourny with the same principles but its too complicated for me

I know how you feel haitch, I entered to try and get better but playing one on one with someone who is very good is just demoralising. The problem with sim is that so few people play it that you rarely get a group playing at the same time so you always end up one on one. Played on Saturday night and the only person I could get to play was subarugaz and he caned me.

I'll still play sim but it has become an elite world and I'm just target practice!

I'm available tonight and tomorrow to try again irrelevant. If it doesn't work you said you'd host right edal?
