You would then get a crash and he would not get a kill. BUT an engine is major damage and he gets the kill no matter how long it takes you to hit the floor.

I've shot people up so their plane is flaming and the pilot bails out and it is instantly counted as a kill. How is killing the engine only without flames any different? Both planes are effectively dead.

any speculations on the release date of the patch? does anyone know if it has even been send to MS yet for aproval? or are they still fixing..?

I know from COD that once they finished the patch...it takes another 2-3 weeks to get in on live due to MS naggers :(.. so... how far in the proces are we?

That's because the game sees an exploded engine as an automatic kill. A failed engine isn't an auto kill. Just like a broken off wing is an auto kill but a sevearly damaged wing that can no longer create lift is not an auto kill.

It's the bailing out that is different. If you bail that is the same as crashing and if it occurs before the "kill credit timer" runs out then the shooter gets credit for the kill.

no, these people arn't bailing out. You can't select bail out when you are on fire because you are already killed. You might see parashutes but I think this is just an extra kill graphic.

If an enemy blackens out any part of your plane and you pause and bail out quickly then your pursuer will get the kill. I do this often to make sure the proper person gets the kill.

It's all ridiculous though, as much as I love this game, this was a ridiculous oversight in the development process.

This patch can't come soon enough.

To be fair to the team, they did code almost everything spot on first go. Thats no mean feat btw especially as it is I believe the first foray on to the console market.

Agreed. They did do a fine job on 90% of the game. That 10% nags me bad though.

Yes this is true, but Zatoichi said the player was on fire. A blacked out part is never on fire. As soon as you go on fire you are counted as a kill, so it's imposible to bail out when you are on fire.
