Look at it this way. We were told the control scheme MONTHS ago, probably around last Dec, IIRC. No problem then. All of my games have slightly different controls, but the left stick is your main stick. OGF, AC6, Hawx. Can't remember Blazing Angels, I used that just on the Aviator.

Anyway, point is that we've enjoyed a generally nice and amicable forum here for about a year. Getting tidbits of info here and there...
Well what we're seeing here is an influx of people who--despite their attitude--are really here expressing interest in the game, just in an uncouth way. Enough to actually do research on it. They may be rude, ask old questions...but despite what they say, the mere presence of being here is a sign of support for the game. Seeing a lot of first time posters. Anton, take it all as positive attention in the form of a shoddily wrapped present.

:grin:I've been reading the forums, RC planes this, RC planes that.. Could not understand what game people were talking about until I realized, the radio-controlled planes. Now that's hilarious. Complaining because the game has a controls layout different from RC planes?? This is just ridiculous.

loopdreams 07-30-2009 07:36 AM

It's not just RC, it's a different layout to most flightsticks as well. Certainly the two I have for the PC both have your right hand on the aileron/elevator and left hand controlling the throttle. I've done a quite a lot of full-size flying in various aircraft and always had control of the ailerons and elevator with my right hand.

Yes I probably could get used to it given time but it's approximately equivalent to some publisher bringing out a first person shooter with no option to invert the y-axis and then telling anyone who doesn't like it that their control scheme is brilliant and anyway it's basically their fault for not telling them sooner. I'd probably not be inclined to give them my money.

Telling anyone who doesn't like it that the control scheme has been known about for ages kind of presumes that anyone considering buying this game will have spent the last year scouring forums like this one for every last bit of info which is obviously nonsense. The lack of any option to change this over is a complete oversight and I'm actually now stuck trying to decide whether I want to pay effectively £80 for the privilege of playing a flight sim on my TV or whether I should just forget all about it and play the PC ones that I already have.

I cannot believe the fuss you guys are making about the controls! GET USED TO IT. If they had done whatever you wanted, they would still have people whining about it. Cheer the f*** up. It's a great game.

It's all very well to say "We were told about the control scheme months ago" But what about the hundreds of users who will try this demo, but aren't users of this forum? Like me. Those players aren't represented in a forum like this, mainly because it is populated by fans and dedicated players, who for most part it seems, won't be playing with a gamepad.
Had I been here, I would have told you, but I was not. and neither were any of the other new players discovering this game. The first experience I had of the game was the Demo, by which point it was too late. That's a big problem.

I was not aware of this game until literally a few hours ago. I downloaded the demo and found it pretty enjoyable except for the control scheme! I just can't get my head around it, It's a big problem for me! And I was pretty disappointed to find that it couldn't be changed.

As Anton said, it's pretty sad that someone will pass up on a game simply because of the controls. It's sad indeed. But true. And I'm afraid that person is me.
If it weren't for the fact that I'm forced to use this uncomfortable control scheme, IL-2 would have been a definite purchase for me, considering how much I enjoy the planes in BF1943 and the like.

Also, having seen it mentioned earlier in the thread, simply relying on the fanbase to buy flightsticks is NOT an acceptable solution.
I'm guessing that one of the big objectives of bringing Sturmovik to the console market is to capture some of the casual gamer demographic that normally wouldn't play this game on PC.
Well, mission failed. A casual gamer does not want to spend £40 on a game, then find that he has to go and spend another £80 on extra kit just so that he can enjoy the game properly!

Casual Gamers = Gamepad = no problem because they're not as fussy as you lot
Hardcore Gamers = Flight Stick = no problem because it just works like you want

In the words of CompareTheMeerkat.com, simples!

Yeah, that would be brilliant if there was a flightstick available actually worth parting with any cash for. If this game came out bundled with a decent flightstick I'd be pre-ordering it now. As it is I'll just wait and see what happens.

A casual gamer will buy the game and enjoy it for what it is.

well if you had spent years learning to fly rc and building muscle memory you would understand how hard it is to switch flight modes ,personally if they are clear that there wont be a update i will just buy a stick that way my muscle momory wont be affected when im flying my rc jet worth over a £1000 (which i cant afford to crash) so im sorry it not ridiculous ,but i do feel some people have gone about complaining in the wrong way which is often the case on a foroum.

anton i very much appreaitce you posting on these foroums ,its a credit to you and your company not many would do it

So so so, I'have been playing the game for more 4 hours yesterday evening and have to say that the game is JUST AMAZING
So let me doing a little review:

-Graphic: it's just never seen here...amazing....just amazing... smoke, trees, houses, planes..everything is just perfect....God, the Battle of Britain map with the coast...since the first Battle of Britain game that's come out in 1990 i was waiting something like that !

Sounds: One more time...amazing :) Sounds of the gun are from far the best I heard. Maybe only IL2 1946 the all the last add-on and patch sounds better.
I mean, dive sounds are excellents, Engine sounds really good, Guns are perfect you can really identifiy what kind of bullets are comming from your six ;) ;)

Commands: So...here is the "famous" problem that everybody tell. So, for me the configuration is from far not bad I like it this way. As Anton said, they made 2 mods, one Arcade for player who want to feel a bit like a Blazing Angel (but 1000 better :) )that you can play with a Pad, and the Simulation Mod that you need to buy a flight stick to play really with. And here I don't see the problem as well...he is just true...you can't hope a simulation like IL2 46 on a Xbox without a Flight Stick !!! it's just impossible !!! Wake up guys !
Because here you right, Simulation mode is really hard to play with the pad. I have played the first mission and it was pretty fine...but the second one with the P-51D was just impossible and the most little turn was follow by a huge Stall Warning...
Well, people who want to fly in Sim mod have to buy a flight stick that's is the true.
The only bad things in my point of view is the impossibility to change control...
Anton, you made an incredible great simulation, so as a lot of people said, you need to hear that and make in an update the option to change control as you want. All the real simulation got it. yours need to have it to become even better !

Finaly this game was what I expected and even more : the absolutely first SIMULATION game on a console. I just can't stop at my first play on the battle of britain map and that was purely amazing and I can't wait to be at home tonight to play it again ( even with my poor Xbox pad :) ).
But, That would be nice to have option like Limited Ammo and Fuel ( Maybe there is but I don't see it, if anyone know about that ? )
So Anton, keep the good work but please, hear what people on the forum wrote about the demo. Most of us have played during years at IL2 1946 and it's why we are a bit demanding :)

But do not worry I will be one of many buyer of this game for sure :)
PS : Sorry for my English :)
