I`ve got a 4870x2, offline I can enable fullscreen mode and increase the graphics setting, incl grass roads and shadows, the Crossfire icon displays top right and both gpus are running at full speed, framerate is very very good. Online I get constant fps flutters at best I lose 50% of the offline fps and it swings from 5 to 30fps almost constantly, when I turn fullscreen to pseudo my Crossfire icon disappears, one gpu doesn`t clock itself up but my framerate goes back to a stable and acceptable level, not as good as the offline framerate but definately no stuttering etc, fps is around the 40 to 80 mark.

Last night whilst online in pseudo mode I lost my sound about 10 mins into a flight, didn`t return till I restarted the program.

I also cannot exit online maps without ctrl alt deleting to stop the game.

PhenomII x4 955BE at 3.6ghz

I fixed this (and other issues I thought were patch related) by rolling back to the official patch (using Steam's integrity check) then re-applying this beta patch.

Previously my installation was patch 14413 on top of patch 14305.

Crossfire works 100% at flight over chanel,Dover(clouds enabled), but over France( Clouds enabled) GPU load drops at 60 % ,FPS and about 2 / 3 down and stay there even longer and when I get the channels and Dover. When flying without clouds Crossfire is working 100%. Clouds over France causes problems Crossfire.

Crossfire 2 x ati 5870

this is ridiculous.
Pffffffffffffff.
When this Engine is new then call me Meier !
its the old il2 engine a little bit modified or not ? please tell us the truth !

Not sure why Im bothering to bite, but wasnt the old Il2 engine based on java and isnt this written in c+ or some such, I might be way off the mark here as I am not a programmer, maybe someone that knows more about this could confirm.

Apart from that surely if this was the old Il2 engine it would be performing a whole load better than what it is, they have obviously reused some of the gui type stuff but then why wouldnt you, no point rewriting everything if it already exists, but this engine certainly has abilities that the old engine didnt.

Bottom line does it really matter, all we want is to get this working, its got a lot more potential in my opinion than Il2 has/had, but it is going to take a fair while to happen.

Pretty much the same gathering here though industrial area over France coast has always been a perf killer, by lowering some building settings and ssao off gets a lilltle better, not much.

Of course it's the old engine modified. No company in their right mind throws out a perfectly good engine and starts again from scratch. Some engines you can even trace back to other companies. Valve's "Source" engine is just a heavily modified Quake engine from the very first Quake game. Call of Duty uses a modified Quake 3 engine, which itself is built on Quake 2, which was built on Quake 1. Unreal 3 can be traced backwards to the original Unreal engine. You'd have to be insane to try and start all over again unless you had one hell of a budget to work with.

On topic, as an update on my previous post (10 pages back or thereabouts), I reset my game version to the current Steam patch level, cleared my cache and then patched it again. Now my primary GPU is correctly throttling up in Crossfire mode, however the stuttering in Crossfire is still severe. GPUZ reports my secondary GPU running at around 85% but the primary sits at about 39%. With such a huge disparity, the cause of the stuttering isn't exactly a mystery.

I am running a pair of 2GB 6950's.

This comes as a surprise to me. I've always rolled back to the last official patch status via Steam's integrity check AND cleared any cache files before installing any beta patch and I still have the issues that the general majority of users are reporting in regard to 14413. Because of that I've also rolled back to 14305 using the same procedure.

I see no difference FPS wise between 14305 and 14413 and have confirmed it using the black death track. That said, 14413 would still be the best patch yet if not for the MP related issues it has caused.

Cheers

I'll stop here though. Just needed to voice the ol frustrations. And again, only frustrated due to the desire to see this sim do well. I bought a whole new rig for it I love it so much.

I agree they need to get the game functioning, but we have to remember these are beta patches so even if they throw 3 or 4 out a week it doesnt matter as long as they get some decent improvements into the steam release patch, only people that should really bother installing these beta patches are those that have the time or can be bothered to do some testing, of course I'm no different than most, and I just install as they come out, at least you can always back out to the last official patch and then install your beta of choice if you feel like it.

Different Story Today From Yesterday????

After playing with the latest patch yesterday and getting numerous lock ups and crashes to desk top (entailing reboots) I decided to give it one more go today before going back to patchless.
Just flew/created a quick missiom/flew again for 2 hours not one crash/lockup.
The mission was a convoy and static vehicle attack in France. Got a few stutters coming in low to strafe over a large French town and amongst the clouds but other than that (and the flickering ground shadows of course) it was very smooth with full screen and everything on maximum settings.
I have had all settings on max from the word go and noticed a slight improvement in clouds and a big improvement over London with the patch.
The Black Death track is a smooth as silk.
I don't have the FPS counter going because I can't see the point in getting hung up on looking for big FPS if the game is operating smoothly
However, with or without the patch, I cannot get static a/c displaying markings nor ai a/c to attack their designated targets or areas in the FMB. I have had all versions of IL2 since inception so I am familiar with FMB.

intel i7 950 @ 3.8 Ghz
6 Gig 1600 DDR3 RAM
ATI 5970 Dual GPU
Win 7 64 Bit
Running at 1920x1200 (native resolution).

Beta 2 (14305) had reintroduced the bad stuttering for me and so I had rolled back to the previous beta1(14214) which gave my system practically no stutters and smooth FPS throughout. (gave feedback in the previous thread for that).

This beta3 (14413) has major performance improvements for me over beta2, but it still does not seem as smooth as the earlier beta1 in this series of patches.

In game settings set to max (except High trees and Low building detail). Epilepsy filter off. SSAO off.

Full screen mode:

Both GPUs on my card are being used and the ATI Crossfire logo appears on screen when actually flying if I turn that on in CCC to check. GPUs are only being used to 60-62% on both GPUs however (using MSI afterburner for the numbers). I have no idea if 60% is good or bad, just including the numbers here for completeness' sake.

Minor stutters are present. Overall it still does not seem as smooth as the beta1 however it is largely playable. I have not tried a mission over London however.

One rider with the stutters though, they can be rather inconsistant in this beta3..sometimes they appeared immensely more noticeable than others whilst testing today...one one flight in particular, they were really bad (rubber band) when low down over a town (Folkstone I think), but generally they have been hardly present at all.

FPS is slightly reduced. Get big slowdowns again when close to another plane (not EVERY time I am close to another plane but frequent enough...this was cured in beta1 for me)..I also get mini freezes when panning view around quickly with TrackIR (also don't recall that happening too often in Beta1).

I am getting terrible flickering in and near clouds as others have reported. If I was not epileptic before I may well soon be if that keeps up :)

My card is throttling up to full power whilst flying in game, however I never had that particular problem previously anyway.

Vsync is working for me (no tearing when using TrackIR in full screen mode when Vsync on...lots of tearing when it is off).

Seem to have smoother performance with Aero off and with triple buffer on in ATI CCC. Turning Aero off made a big difference in beta1 for overall smoothness.

I have tried most of the Quick missions (except over London) and performance seems similar throughout.

Pseudo full screen

This regresses performance back to beta 2 level for me in regard to stutters...unplayable in this mode.

Hope this is of some help.
S!
