Thanks guys. I'm really enjoying flying this Sim. I get fair FPS, ave. 45-70, but still notice some stuttering, not bad though. Will the flickering ground & tree shadows be sorted? I'm worried it may give me epilepsy, :P

I cannot wait for the next patch and hope after that more mainstream IL2 squadrons will start to feature online, hopefully with more Servers featuring externals and maybe open cockpit. Full real is okay for the Sim Buff junkies, but give us regular blokes some fun too.
Bomb and Weapons Presets need more work as I'm losing saved Bomb presets & Weapons presets under loadouts. After extensive setting up and saving they simply dissappear.
I would suggest a more friendly QMB as the Quick & Single Missions are limited and appear to lack consistency regarding Bomb sets and Loadouts. Would be nice if more missions were available.
I'm sure a quick fix is feasible to access & edit bombs sets and weapons loadouts directly though QM instead of needing customizing though Planes under Options.

Given time this Sim will rock and survive the next 10 years as the undisputed Best WW2 combat sim ever.

Give it about 10 years to get there before you say this Sim will rock and survive the next 10 years as the undisputed Best WW2 combat sim ever. Meantime IL2 1946 will be in the spotlight. TC

ok, I still cannot get use to the engine sounds in the latest patch .. my emil sounds like a russian tractor. That cannot be realistic ? The sound of the Emil in Barflys Battle of Britain trailer sounds alot better .. :( Any "offically approved" sound patch available? Thanks

BTW, if I play a single quick mission and let it play to the end when all plays land and vanish, and exit, it says all these planes were shot down ??????

Game seems more stable with latest patch, few GPU driver crashes.

and as always, would love to see the Deffy flyable.

CODs Emil engine sounds nothing like barflys one or the one in the video I linked to.

Either that or I'm going deaf.

examples

Defiant should have RR merlin, this doesn't sound like a merlin

And the Emil's engine doesn't sound like the low throb of a daimler - pitch seems too high?

The internal sounds sounds very close to the internal CD recording to me. Like a real 109. The external sound sounds way better than it use to from the case but it still needs a lot of work.

The videos that Richie provided links (at least the parts I listened to) sounded like they were recorded inside the cockpit. As opposed to the video that you provided. That is going to have a big impact on the sound.

It also seems like the sound recording quality is higher in Richie's videos, which may have used proffessional equipment. If you listen to some of the background sounds in the Barfly video, you can tell the audio is not that great.

That being said, I think there is a common phenomenon where people experience things often enough (whether sound or visuals) in video games or movies, and take that to be authentic or true to life. I've done it, and I suspect most simmers have as well. Sometimes we end up seeing/hearing something that is more authentic, but rejecting it because it doesn't fit our expectations.

Cheers,
Auger73

I could be wrong, but wasn't the latest barfly video created using footage and sounds from before the beta / official patch that even had the upgraded sound engine in them, but instead was using one of the sound mods floating around?
