If the server you are on has good briefings and as well reports enemy positions, it isnt generally that hard to find some enemy planes.... I had trouble at first, bu mostly that was due to not being able to navigate very well.

Agree, but it is not finding the enemy thath is the problem . The problem is not to loos them in dogfight becouse of grapic or dotrange issues. ;)

yup, it is a problem, but you can find them initially :) Just dont lose them :D

Guys, try this: open conf.ini, and set the "MeshShowLod=" value 1
This solved similar problem for me (before this patch)

LOD mean level of detail. The MeshShowLod=1 settings turns off the switching to the detailed and less detailed models if their distance increases. Should be activated only, if there are bug in LOD, because it causes performance slowdown.
