Very nice screenshot Larry!

Not many people realise that Roy cross also did all the artwork for Brooke Bond card series History of Aviation
- (for those who don't know; they did very many popular series of free collectors cards that came with packets of tea).

Hi,
This thread proves its possible, so how does one , having got external to an aircraft, move about it to get different views, and maybe also zoom back and forth ?
have failed to find mention of this in any forums , or on google etc.

No answers to forum posts on it, but it is possible, just a great mystery at the moment.
Never failed in sims in the past, maddox have buried this one deep it seems.

I expect to move mouse and pan around it. maybe + and - are zoom,

maybe one disables mouse from some other function first ?

I have TrackIr so if thats running, do I temporarily disable that and how ?

I want mouse control over my stills captures.

anyone help ?????

BOBC

mavers92 12-07-2014 08:42 PM

F10 changes the function of the mouse and with that ive been able to pan and move around.

Maybe the guys who make some of the fantastic movies have other secrets but that's what ive used to zoom and change the view.

Hope this helps.

BOBC 12-08-2014 01:14 AM

Hi Mavers92,
Thanks for reply,
well that gets me somewhere, at least I can look down or up at my aircraft now.
F8 to go outside aircraft,
Then F10 and I have some functionality.

Just moving mouse takes my camera anywhere on an invisible circle track up over the top of the aircraft or around and underneath looking up at it, and no doubt it goes beyond to nose, that circle is on the aircrafts centreline, with its centre at aircraft centre. It is a vertical circle.

I now need a horizontal one to move around side of aircraft.

Now to try for moving around its side...

right mouse button down and move mouse, that gets me closer or further away, so thats the zoom.

lets try Left mouse button, , that rotates the aircraft about a point many miles away in front of it, out on its flight path. (and not me around it) and its gone off edge of screen.
Move mouse down and aircraft goes off screen at top, or maybe bottom, typing this after turning sim off.
Now thats an odd one, not much use, as it ends up off screen very quickly.

How does one move around the side of the aircraft ?

BOBC

Igo kyu 12-08-2014 01:28 AM

I don't know about F10, I don't remember whether I tried that, what works for me is the centre mouse button, the scroll-wheel. If you hold that down, the rest of it is then the same as in "1946" but holding down the scroll wheel without scrolling the wheel is tricky.

Anyhow, good luck, maybe that F10 is the thing to do? maybe you'll find something else and tell us?

Continu0 12-08-2014 05:59 AM

BOBC: You should be able to switch to outside view by F2. But ths has to be allowed by the realism settings...

mavers92 12-08-2014 04:01 PM

I do use F2 then press F10 to get the views to change. F8 is the chase view im sure. I've never really used the padlock views so not sure if these help.

BOBC 12-08-2014 05:14 PM

Hi, this is driving me mental. I cant ad to this screenshot thread until the method is found.
In all the years of flight simming I have never spent 1.5 days trying to get to see the side of my aircraft.

F2 I cant see in the settings, does anyone know what command it is allocated to, and is that in 'game' or aircraft' or 'camera' etc ?

I must have re-allocated that to another key. The only key I allocated anything to was on my joystick, and that key removed the inst panel so I see just some instruments around my view, hit it again and they vanish, again and entire cockpit reappears. so I reckon F2 did that, but thats not of use here, I need to see my aircraft.

Can I check, does F2 for you guys show you your aircraft, or just remove the instrument panel. I reckon F2 default simply removed the panel, on mine anyway.

To get back the default settings I couldnt see an option for that, so I uninstalled via steam. Looked at steam folder and still saw the CoD folder...and in that were config.ini and other stuff.

Not impressed by steams idea of uninstall, I deleted that folder and also emptied my trashbin.

Reinstall CoD from steam, 40 mins of download later.

run it and it still has held onto my throttle allocation, so how did it manage to remember that ?

I need to get back the default settings.

At the moment I can only pan around my aircraft along a circle which is vertical based on aircraft centreline. gives me uside plan view, topside plan view, tail and nose views etc.

They should have had it one button goes external (F8 would seem to be that button) and mouse then moves view around aircraft as if in a CAD program.
I have to hit F10 to get mouse to operate in the external view, thats fair enough I guess, but panning around the aircraft then doesnt happen.

Anyone care to do a step by step on how they exit aircraft and view its side, what the wording is for each button they use and in what menu list it is.

That would solve this.

Continu0<<You should be able to switch to outside view by F2. But ths has to be allowed by the realism settings...>>
I have my sim set to default realism, are you saying I need to make it 'realistic' flight model to get F2 to work ?

BOBC

mavers92 12-08-2014 05:26 PM

F2 is a default key as far as I know for External view. Cant remember the exact location in the settings but its the same place as F8.
The default settings should return the key if you've deleted it. Also check steam apps/common/ and check the documents conf.ini too and see whats there

BOBC 12-08-2014 05:55 PM

Quote:

mavers92 The default settings should return the key if you've deleted it
Hi, I cant see where one can reset this to default, looked in controls, see no reset to default option.

How is this done ?

WHAT DOES F2 DO FOR YOU GUYS, for me it simply removes the cockpit, I dont see my aircraft,

click scroll wheel mouse down is same as left mouse button after F10 is hit, F10 activates Mouse for external view work, then left mouse button rotates view but over top uto underside, when aircrat flying straight and level.

Not found a way yet to rotate horizontally around it at all.

simple fix to this.
fly your aircraft straight and level, then
talk me through what buttons and so on to hit and in what order so as to :-
a) see the aircraft
b) rotate around it horizontally

what mod are you on when doing so. I also wonder if mods have altered things. I am still with CoD from Steam, yet to mod.

I'll be at my pc bit later and could try this -

If you pm me an email address I will send you my control ini. Save it and then load it, click apply and see if this helps with keys issue.

One for me is a missing button for looking down using keyboard. POV hat ok though.

BOBC 12-09-2014 01:40 AM

Hi,
I have decided to nuke CoD and also Steam as its the only way of starting over, and getting default settings as there is no default restore button.
That is very annoying that there is no easy way of restoring defaults.
I deleted CoD folder in steam, then found and turned off steam cloud restore user settings (steam CoD wording top left > properties>updates tab)
I reinstalled steam then CoD, it said installing to new PC, said if wrong then nuke all but steamapps folder in steam and something else (see steam website) , so did that, still insisted was new pc, so went along with its supplied password,,hate progs like steam !!!
F2 gives me a/c in screen middle, and BINGO !!! F10 allows pan all around it.
SUCCESS !!!
There was I recall a case of getting aircraft into screen centre then F10 again. Also mouse scroll wheel gives pan excluding need for F10 but I prefer F10.

Looked in realism, all is unchecked except clouds on default. No Outside View is unticked.
F12 takes a still image, you hear a metallic ping, and a thumbnail occurs top right, CoD has locked up twice though when doing this.
Screen Capture though in options is Printscreen. I had to make it F12 when I first installed CoD, somehow F12 is now doing so, however F12 is centre view in trackIR so I need to find F12 and alter it, but where is F12 in CoD options.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE F12 COMMAND IN OPTIONS ?
I have gone through Options now and F12 is not there, so how do I alter F12 to another key to do stills, I need F12 for TrackIr centering !

I shall probably revert PC to last saved image when all this messing around is over, if CoD keeps freezing up, but I will work my way through the mods first, they may solve that.
Clearly despite latest Steam its still glitchy as a basic install unless all this messing about via suggested and official methods has upset it.

Hope this is of use to others who despite a new install struggle with CoDs external views.

Screen capture by the way goes to different folder in steam depending on location of CoD folder and launcher you are using. best way is do a still then search on drive the CoD launcher is on *.jpg images made that day.

Did this before seeing offer of ini, so will also try that to another copy paste of the CoD folder.

BOBC

Outside views...
You need a mouse with a middle button.

In outside view (F2):

PAN around aircraft (aircraft centred) = Mouse middle + move mouse around

ZOOM = mouse middle + right mouse button and move mouse forward and back to zoom

PAN to side (offset pan, aircraft un-centred) = Mouse middle + mouse left and move mouse around

Follow this guide. Practice makes perfect;)

For practice, fly alongside a friendly aircraft and about 30 yards away.

Press F10.

Pause.

Press F2. (This will show an external view of your aircraft).

Slide the mouse to rotate the view horizontally of your aircraft.

You will suddenly 'hit' the view of the nearby aircraft and it's interior.

There are variations on this for different views.

I hope this helps.

Les 08-19-2015 12:56 AM

Nice action sequence Avro. Was 'reading' it like a comic. Didn't expect that collision at all, gave me a bit of a shock

MB_Avro_UK 08-19-2015 04:59 PM

Thanks, Les.
I missed out one pic that would have given it better continuity (Photobucket:-x).

Here it is:-

http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psspn5hymt.jpg

This pic is of the missing wingman who caught me out and forced me to break as I attacked the first 109. I caught both of them about 5 minutes later with unforeseen consequences!

It was 'The Hardest Day' after all...

Superb!!!!

Identical to the real photos I have seen of LW airfields in France, summer 1940.
There's always a relic of a RAF or French Air Force aircraft at the edge of the base, abandoned in May 1940 during the Battle of France.

Hurricane v 109 & 110. The 109 is very fast.

Only time for one shot against the 109 in a Hurricane. Miss and it's gone!

Defiant Defiant. (It makes sense).

The Defiant was conceived at a time when it was anticipated that France would not be defeated.

The Defiant was designed to attack unescorted German bombers. Flying from Germany, the 109 could not in theory have been an escort.
