Yeah, my impression exactly.

The thing is that I think they do not know themselves whether this is serious or not. Giving us another deadlines would only cause more havok if not met.

I wouldn`t be surprised if they halt the comms altoghether. Answering demands of those that daily bash this game and its devs doesn`t really change their attitude. It just gives them incentive to stay here and keep trolling.

So asking if these are major bugs because I know nothing about programming is trolling? So asking someone something you know nothing about is trolling? How I ever got on in life without asking anything I'll never know. If you read my post you would see I said I didn't mind waiting for this to be fixed.

Ridiculing someone with a mental illness is not acting like a adult. In fact it was the worst post ive ever seen on these boards.

Who said trolling?....it's just bloody annoying seeing people ask questions that are already answered many many times.

So can you direct me to the link that explains if these a major bugs or are relatively easy to fix?

No, your post was far far worse than anyone else bongo, i saw it before it was deleted. I wonder if you would make such a post if a member of your family suffered such a illness, take the mick out of sick children do you, or maybe people with cancer?

the beta patch is round the corner, they just did a total rewrite of the graphics engine in 6 months, squashing some bugs in that rewrite is not going to take years.

Touchè..
Btw there is not a real answer from the community on that argoument in my opinion, everything depends from how is made the code. The problems on the texture rendering perhaps is what coul be more problematic, considering that it is on various and different situations. But beeing you I would wait the answer from a more reliable source than me..

You know nothing of what I have experienced in life, I have heard many jokes relating to issues that have affected me, none of them offended me, does the 'one legged man at an ass kicking contest' joke offend everyone with a missing leg?
so what I asked raaaid if he plays with his poo to attract the flies he likes to tame?

That's not how you wrote it and you know it, post it again exactly as you did then and it didn't look like a joke to me.

Its great how it wouldn't affect you Bongo, but you dont know how it affects others on a public forum do you?
I have a sister who suffers Bongo and it was deeply offensive to me.

You know full well if I posted it again 'YOU' would report it again, and for the record what I wrote was just as I described.
You and me need to discuss this in PM, before you go telling me to do stuff to my own face how about politely asking me to stop? I wasn't expecting to have upset someone as precious as you because I was talking to raaaid.

From the last 'Friday update' by BlackSix which is still there to read.

However, the things that are the current "known issues" are:
· No dynamic low-caliber hit decals showing on aircraft;
· Detached aircraft chunks losing their texture and becoming pitch-black;
· Little particle "dust" that comes out of weapon hits looking like untextured squares;
· Gunsights always white in color;
· No waypoint lines rendered in map or FMB;
· Pilot and Plane models not rendering textures in Options - Pilot and Options - Plane respectively;
· DX9 support not ready for public consumption.

what about anyone else who who reads it?

I just read the new rules about an hour ago and then I see Bongodriver's comments about Raaid and taming flies. I just don't understand how he gets away with that and many other comments about others. We've had one member banned for three weeks for something I believe is, at least, to the same level as this.

Sorry Fruitbat, but i really think that was a bit uncalled for. It also was the point at which (another) thread started its descent into the familiar 'You're a whiner' - 'No I'm not' argument.

Personally I thought the op's question was fine - after all we're all wondering essentially the same thing. The problem may be that there is no easy answer for it.

But, once again, can the usual crowd who are so quick to throw out the 'whiner' accusations maybe take a step back and think a little bit more. It's obvious the question is of no interest to them. It's equally obvious that it is of interest to the OP. It's also the case that there wasn't anything negative or attacking in the OP, so why the over-reaction?

Well it was a throw away comment on my lunch break. If i'd of thought it was going to have caused such a stink i wouldn't of posted, so there you have it. PotNoodles, my apologies.

That said i don't really see what is going to have changed since B6 posted this last friday,

Quote:

Dear friends,

Yes, we know it's ridiculous. No one is more upset at the situation than us, believe me. You have lives outside flight sims. You have jobs, you have homes. For us, Cliffs of Dover is our life. When we can't get it right, it hurts us. When we are in the constant state of "almost ready", when we break promises week after week, it affects us very deeply.

Unfortunately, even though it looked like we had something releasable this morning, by lunchtime we felt we should work on it more. What we almost released would have been a "DX10 alpha". All the FM changes are there, lots of other great things, FPS and stability improvements, etc.

However, the things that are the current "known issues" are:
· No dynamic low-caliber hit decals showing on aircraft;
· Detached aircraft chunks losing their texture and becoming pitch-black;
· Little particle "dust" that comes out of weapon hits looking like untextured squares;
· Gunsights always white in color;
· No waypoint lines rendered in map or FMB;
· Pilot and Plane models not rendering textures in Options - Pilot and Options - Plane respectively;
· DX9 support not ready for public consumption.

We just felt that this was one known issue too many. The decision was very hard to make. Many team members are unhappy with it, especially those responsible for the parts of the patch that are fully tested and working such as the FM.

I believe however that, rather than presenting ourselves as a team that releases half-finished patches with lots of graphic issues, we should work very hard on building the reputation for making things right, the first time, however long it takes.

We’ll keep providing regular reports.
All i see we can do is wait for the 'regular reports'.

Read the thread again and tell me I attacked the OP, whats with this over dramatic use of the word attacked anyway, I made a reply to Furbs who decided to bring up an issue long since gone (infractions received and ban served) who started attacking who?

Your not a programer are you?

Allow me to make an analogy here..

What your asking them to do is tell us now, how lost their car keys are before they found their car keys

Problem is you don't know how lost your car keys are until you find your car keys

For example..

Code:

CASE 1) I lost my car keys once and I went looking for them.. I found them 5 min later upstairs on my desk, at which point I realized I left them there yesterday when I was getting my thumb drive out of my pocket.

CASE 2) I lost my car keys once and I went looking for them.. I found them 6 months later on the ground outside once the snow melted, at which point I realized I must have dropped them when getting out of the car in the snow.

The last thing we want the programer to do is spend 'time' donig a write up AFTER he finds his keys telling us, in great detail, about all the places he looked for his keys before he found his keys!

What we do want the programer to do is move onto the next bug as soon as he finds his keys

SAVVY?

Sorry, but open a thread like this is also not very useful.

Short answer: Why do u think, that somebody exactly knows, what time it takes for the devs to solve problems?

Sorry, but if my kid would try to ask something that stupid, I will have done something wrong.

We also had a guy in our clan, who asked also questions like this all the time. Soon, he had to leave the clan, because we all got fed up by his nonsense questions.

Sorry to react a little mad, but how on earth are you thinking, that you get an answer on your initial thread question? You even do not ask the devs, but the opinion of the com? Sorry, but this is getting childish (although this answer is a little childish, too. ;) I simply couldn't resist)

It really gets a trash can of never answered threads, because a grown up will simply never answer such threads. Or did u intend to discuss with the com? Why? They also do not know!!!

Ooooooomg!!!!! Please try to find interesting issues of the game and discuss, but not a thread no. 72 with crystal ball questions. There can be no discussion, cause u know from the beginning of your post, that it will not get answered. Common, back to important discussions, if you have some.

Sorry again. Please do not take it personal , but ...hmpf... really again such a thread???? ....hmpf....

Well the title of the tread says it all really and the question is obviously directed at anyone knowing anything about programming, it wasn't meant for some people who get there jollies from dismantling posts and been insulting. The Devs sometimes visit these forums and all I was asking was if these are major or minor bugs. Anyways thanks to all the sensible posts I appreciate the help. Thankyou!!

mazex 05-03-2012 04:52 PM

Well, being a programmer myself they sound like the type of problems that take an hour to fix when you finally find that weird parameter that needs to be set to X creating object Y for configuration Z... Finding it can take from 10 minutes if you find that thread in some dev forum or weeks of trial and error / re-engineering...

So, even the best programmer cannot say, because do not know, what they already program in the last 6 months. So, your question is simply answered: Nobody can know and nobody can say something about the time a certain bug is causing to solve. It is simply the answer, which suites to every familiar threads in the past 6months and this won't change suddenly.

That is, why I always get mad with such posts. The question is already answered, no matter when u ask it or in which new context you are asking. It is always a "no" :)

I don't want people to write only posts with sense, but in an area, where several 100 people are looking for information, these posts should be perhaps posted in th pilots lounge in a special area "what do u think..." or something like that.

Thankyou for the good explanation. Like I said I am not a programmer, but it is now obvious to me that programming is not as straight cut as in other fields. In my line of work I am able to give an estimate because I am used to doing the job, but from what you have said it doesn't look like programming works that way. Anyways thanks for the heads up and I'll take that into account in future.

I don't know how much the severity of the current list of bugs really matters. 1C has displayed their incompetence many times, and if history tells us anything it is that once these bugs are resolved, they will just be replaced by a new crop.

That is true for any complicated software. As you make changes you introduce bugs. You often also add new bugs when you fix old bugs. All of which is great for job security... :grin:

They should have known this by now. Instead of fixing the bugs in the new engine they had, they scraped it a d built a new one, with a fresh set of bugs.:rolleyes:

Stublerone 05-03-2012 06:10 PM

I think, that at least the posting of the last few weeks really were honest and that they were also thinking to solve the issues in a short time. And it also is honest, that they are even more unhappy about the situation , than we are. So, the last weeks have this honest behaviour as a positive result.

Concerning your mad words about past program skills: It is not okay to evaluate that, as a sim is always something different and in my opinion not as easy as programming a casual game like bf3. All they did is a new evolution stage of their engine and than copy and paste bf:bad company 2 with some new weapons, maps, interfaces and a slightly different system. It is a n1 game, but in its heart it is nothing new. They haven't solved hitbox problems now for decades and if you have a closer look, it simply offer no deeply programmed feature. Some libraries, some physx effects (which are very wrong in important cases) and newest directx effects and they are done for the gaming part. Building ne scenarios perhaps took most of the time. There is no revolution, although I see a talented multiplayer developer in dice!

Think about cod black ops: They ran into time issues for their introduction. So they simply got the multiplayer frome dice (different graphics style between single and multiplayer). I just shoot in the dark with the following, but they just took several weeks to setup the whole multiplayer for cod. But it is poor for cod, that this happened.

You can see, that it is easy to produce ego shooter over ego shooter and just change appearance, story and some features, but it is not easy to program completely new games with such a small studio in an acceptable time frame. U see this in every sim, which tries to do something completely new or in a new detail level.

So, to compare the grade of detail behind the scenes of a sim and a casual game is not possible. They have different priorities!

I think they felt that to get more streamlined, efficient code they had to do something more drastic than a 'sticking plaster' approach. I'm sure it wasn't a decision they took lightly - in fact probably with something close to horror when they realised that it was going to be necessary.

They also had to rewrite the sound engine too.

Plus there is ongoing work on the AI code. The GUI is to be replaced.

Does raise a few questions about the state of the game on release. May be the case that what we got at release was a bit of a 'belt and braces', stitched-together-in-a-hurry job after they got a 'release now or else' ultimatum. So now there is reworking of different areas of code to bring it to a final, polished level.

From my understanding, which is only from what Luthier wrote, it was not suitable as the basis for a smooth running game, especially if more features are added (ie tree collisions, dynamic weather, etc.)

I am not a programmer, this is just my impression.

How can the same bugs exists in the new code, if it is rebuilt from scratch? Whats the odds of that... ;)

I have a sister who suffers Bongo and it was deeply offensive to me.

I guess cuz you were offended, we must STOP everything....i guess anytime someone has a chance of being offended we must self censor...wow that is the essence of a free society isnt it....

you know what i am DEEPLY OFFENDED by your disregard for freedom and liberty and free speech....i guess anytime someone COULD be offended we must censor our selves...we also should have to carry around handbooks that teach us how to be politically correct since that seems to be what you want....

here is the deal you want to live in a free society you are going to have to deal with being offended from time to time get over it and get over your self...no one cares enough about you to censor themselves so they dont offend you or anyone else we dont care about....

The problem is, this is a forum with rules that you agreed to when you signed up. If you want to make fun of handicapped/mentally disabled folks, you can do so in your "free society" areas, just not here. Pretty much what I would expect from the guy defending the right to ask if a Moderator's children traded sex for video games.

Give it a rest, Furbs brought an issue up with nothing to do with this topic, just because Furbs can't make an inteligent argument against me he resorted to finding the most pathetic excuse to get me reported and I had my abusive PM's infractions and a ban for it, story is over......... get over it.

Raaaid is a troll anyway, if you really believe his need for attention story about being mentally disabled then you are a fool, he uses it like a shield to get sympathy and protection, this just happens to be the only forum he hasn't been banned from, even the flat earth society banned him for being weird, has troll written all over him.

Not to get in the middle of a BS argument, but unless bongo is just classless in everythoing he does, his comment directed at raaaid was asked BECAUSE he's mentally 'different.' It was insulting and mean spirited based upon his perception of raaaid's mental abilities.

That has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with respect. Do I think it should be edited or censored? No. But I see nothing wrong with others expressing their displeasure at a crass comment.

Personally, I don't get offended at chat room antics, but I'd expect a little higher decorum than the typical Youtube comments I see sometimes here. Is it that hard to treat others with the dignity and respect you wish to be treated with.

Regarding Raaaid being a troll: I've 'known' him since 2002. I can't remember anytime he's purposely assualted another forum member. Even when he's attacked he more often takes it with a grain of salt. Yeah. He's a different bird, but I like the guy.

If you look at my post, you would see I was responding to someone who wouldn't let it rest. Your idea of "letting it go" is to keep on posting on the subject and continue to launch insults? Classic....

Yeah yeah insults.......where exactly did I insult you? yet more manufactured arguments....classic

I don't make any habbits of making fun of disabled/mentally challenged people, but it suits Furbs to accuse me of such for one 'off the cuff' remark aimed at raaaid.

Bob_Marley 05-04-2012 12:23 AM

Thats not fair to talk about Raaaid like that.

ATAG_Dutch 05-04-2012 12:25 AM

I had home made cheeseburgers for tea.

My wife gave me a double thumbs up!

She particularly liked the fried onions I make, with no oil whatsoever, but a very very secret ingredient.

So anyway, how are you chaps?

Tomorrow, Saturday 5 may, is a working day. Russia celebrates a Victory Day 6, 7, 8, 9 - it's a holidays.

Unbelievable you celebrate this...
Imagine I would beat a boy with at least 7 of my friends,and would celebrate this,...sorry in my eyes rediculus.
Have a look at the map and compare Germany at this times and Russia at this time, not mentioning the soldier count wich were 1/7 in the beginning and 1/20 since 1944....ashame ,ashame....
But well another artefact by Stalin I guess, although the win vs Napoleon was much more worth.

However for the people best wishes for the free times, no matter what reason the holiday was founded on.

If this is a Joke it is not very funny. 27 Millian Russian died in the war that was caused by Hitler and the Nazi regime. They are entitled to celebrate in any way that choose.

Anders_And 05-04-2012 09:04 AM

Jeeeez you guys must have a total of ca 2 weeks of holidays between 1st of jan and mid may... :/

almost twice as much as most of us have in a whole year!!;)

By far no joke.
It is celebrated by all kinds with military parades to present the power etc.
The victims are not regarded but the political leaders of each era past it.
It is called a celebration day not a day of mourning, what it actually should.
The war is the reason that people died, and Germany did the primary strike, no question.
Sending unarmed people into the line of fire by politruks made the victims that high it became.
The sad reason is actually not the war but the relationship from commuism politics attitudes to its own people, started already in early 30s.
However we dont celebrate our 27mil vicitms but our success. Which is so dedicated to the russian politics...

=FI=Scott 05-04-2012 09:18 AM

It has actually been quite interesting to see how many public holidays they have. We've got Mayday on monday and a 2 day bank holiday in June for the Jubilllee.

As to the patch the list of bugs wasn't minor and I'm not expecting anything. Add to that the RoF update has been put back a week and its looking more like that grass is going to get cut this weekend after all.

Guys, seems you are discussing about different things :)

Nephris - people who fought and theyr families have all rights to celebrate. Another question is how politic leaders were fighting this war. Here I can put equation between communists and naci. And in this aspect I agree with you in all 100%
