Guess, the others are already done then... and he lost (or won, just how you want to look at it). :D

Seriously, I am curious, if you can name their nations?

I think you're right, but English and U.S. might be reversed depending on the type of flying gear. Certainly the Axis pilots are quite distinctive, with the Luftwaffe riding pants and the Japanese katana.

And no, not THERE yet. As you may have noticed, I try to entertain the crowd.
Its not much left though. A handfull of things. But its ike with the last piece of the cake - you have a hard time to eat it, if you got all the other pieces already.

There is a certain member, I believe XylonX who proposed that Oleg Maddox make a wooden Spitfire. My guess is that the illustration he posted had the interior colors as brown instead of British grey-green which caused confusion.

Oleg said something like, "Close that book and never open again (in somewhat broken Rusglish)".

I know with 99% certainty that XylonX did say "Oleg Maddox why spitfire not have TUBE LAUCHER (sic)".

More lols ensued.

No no... it was definitely about the Spitfire. Oleg wrote that the fellow should close the book that he read it in and never open again. This random guy on the forum was complaining about how the Spitfire made of wood was not as tough as the Russian made of wood aircraft. It was a hilarious discussion!

I wouldn't say, 'kill him', he maybe is just singing the wrong song! Just now, DT is not working on a non-axis night fighter plane (DT is currently busy almost exclusively with putting 4.12 into the box). But maybe a single member is doing this in a private manner, as it happend a few times already and plans to surprise us all together.

However, if nightfighter scenario gets more into shape, it will probably be a bit one-sided without a proper allied counterpart to Bf110G-4 and such.
Best candidate would be the Mosquito or the Beaufighter, wasn't it?

ECV56_Guevara 03-21-2013 11:15 AM

Mosquito would be the more popular and prolific night fighter. The Beaufighter was very successful early on but the Mosquito had more performance potential.

Whenever you read about Allied night-fighter kills over Europe it's definitely the Mosquito that was involved.

I have it on good authority from impeccable sources: the janitors son in laws ex girlfriends neice who works at wendys posted a retweet on facebook from linked in that; according to highly placed officials in the Turkish embassy in Lichtenstein that the patch will be released on the 1st of april, unless conditions in the ongoing negotiations with an undisclosed seasoned precious metal buyer degrade to the point of excluding inner allied cooperation in the regional spectrum. A keen analysis of the strucutral interface revealed a flaw in the logisitcal flow process, hence the restructured portfolio. However after quick consultation with the nieces dental hygenist who has dated ms west carolina, the dog groomers therapist concluded that the 1st of april is the most probable course of action..

I'll pile onto the people asking for the Mosquito. In terms of numbers built, successful use in the role, etc., it was a very important night fighter type, although it's more than a match for the Bf-110G-4 NJ.

If you want a U.S. type based on planes already in the game, you could include the P-70 Havoc, the F4U-2 (or F4U-4N) or the P-38M.

The Soviets could use the Pe-3 or Yak-9 nightfighter variants. The Italians could use the Re.2001 CN.

If you wanted to make the Luftwhiners squeal with delight, you could consider adding the Heinkel He-219 Uhu to the game. If you're just wanting to do conversions of existing planes, the Bf-109 and Ju-88 NJ variants would make solid mates to the Bf-110.

Sadly, the P-61 Black Widow, the one night fighter that every U.S. player wants will never be in the game. Damn you Northrop Grumman!

Well, not in the stock game at least. P61A and P61B are in HSFX6.

ECV56_Guevara 03-22-2013 11:03 AM

well, if we have hte mossie he will have multiple preys. He111 Ju 88 and surely He177. Instead of it, a Luftwaffe NF will have only Wellington and enemy NF. There is a British four engined bomber planned for 4.13 /4.14??

Do-217 is far more important in that role than He-111 and Ju-88.

And if there will be night fighters in the game, Ju-88 is a must have. Primarily a C6, and maybe a G variant. In fact, the C6 alone is more important than the Me-110G4, more than 2500 built.

Agree, even Do 17/217 NF versions would be great. But my point is that those birds will need enemy bombers to kill. At early war, there are Blems and the wimpy coming in 4.12. For medium late / war scenery we need 4 engined bombers. Still we have Mosquito, a great pathfinder.

What about RAF Liberators from 205 Group? There were plenty of them in the skies of central/eastern/southern Europe towards the end of the war (September 1944 to May1945)... :)

EDIT: I was referring to the Mk. VI and later versions. Earlier variants were available in the MTO as early as 1942.

Speaking of which, once we finally get the B-24D, it would be amazingly cool to have "Carpetbagger" (night spy and clandestine air cargo drop) and Coastal Command ASW variants.

Oceanic Wing Mod Team did at least one model for the Lancaster, along with a lot of other goodies for IL2 (Commonwealth Boomerang, Westland Whirlwind) which looked to be well along.

Unfortunately, some or all of their work was destroyed or derailed by the 2010 New Zealand earthquakes. I'm not sure that we'll ever see the fruits of their labor.

OW never contacted DT. Boomerang is in DT archive too (original model in early stage at lod0). Whirlwind can be interesting ...
and Lancaster by OW was higher poly what I remember, reworked from other game. Not direct IL2 quality there.

1) Load up the Hawk 75 in the QMB
2) Play my Hawk 75 campaign for the Finnish Air Force and get at least to mission 5 where the squadron fully converts to the Hawk.

I told you that I love you Caspar? `cos I do!:grin::grin::grin::grin:

Treetop64 03-27-2013 04:23 PM

I get the impression that "closing the lid" on this patch is akin to packing ten pounds of potatoes in a five pound bag.

Its more like fiddeling with the tomatoes, that just won't stay in the Big Mac (Quarter Pounder), while we are pressing it together, so you can eat it without any problem. :D

Hell, what a metaphoric day...

Ok, made a few screenshots, just for your waiting:

Is the Hawk 75 external model the same as the current AI aircraft?

beazil 03-27-2013 09:00 PM

Hey Caspar, can you give any comment as to whether triple monitor resolutions will now be supported? (please!) Thank you!

Wel... I'm not the right guy to be asked, but I guess, the answer is 'no' - at least not more than it was before. We added a different, optional FoV for widescreen monitors and changed the user interface accordingly, but thats all. In fact, there are a lot of scientific and complicated details in the doing of our programmers, that I never understood, but triple monitor setups where not discussed.

Possible resolutions now are read out of the OS video cards settings and are choosable from in game menue. Many of the conf.ini settings have been taken to the GUI so you mostly don't need to edit that file anymore.
