me and my friend are trying to play multiplayer..but we cant connect...do we both need v4.08 at least to be able to connect ip address to ip address?? or does it not matter?

To play on-line, both client and server must have exactly the same version of the game.

So, if you are trying to connect to a friend over LAN or Internet you both should have same version of the game. Otherwise it won't work. If you both have same game version, but still not able to connect, then there could be also other problems, such as firewall settings, or your network setup, etc.

Are you using "Hyper Lobby" to connect?

we are using hyper lobby but we were also trying to just connect via typing in one of our ip addresses and joining that way..

If one or both is behind a firewall you'll need to potentially open some ports or set up port forwarding. That'd be my guess.

Get the make and model of the router (for the host) and then Google port forwarding for that model. I can't remember what ports IL-2 needs to be open but Google probably would help with that too.
