higher resolution

can't get the game to run in higher resolutions, I have a pretty constant 60fps at 1360x768 720p which is my native resolution, my question is if I get a higher resolution tv will my performance be the same as when I go beyond my native resolution with current tv? is it that my card can't handle 1920x1080? at that res my fps drop to 42, the card says that it will handle higher resolutions but it's not happening, thanks
