Default Birds of Steel - ideas towards enhancing gameplay

I know its very early to start planning projects for Birds of Steel but this may help make the wait seem shorter lol

Anyway, here are some of my ideas:

1. Squadrons: (2 Squadron Leaders, 8 Flight Leaders)
(hope we have option of skins so that we can assign skins to Flight Groups)

a) Allies Aircraft Squadron - divided into 4 Flights of 6 pilots, plus 1 Flight of Reserves
b) Axis Aircraft Squadron - divided into 4 Flights of 6 pilots, plus 1 Flight of Reserves

2. Co-op Campaign Flight group Challenge:
- Basically a leaderboard for the highest scoring Squadron (represented by a Flight group or Flight Groups) for each mission.
- Campaign Coop missions must include 4 players
- Due to time zone differences or other situations where a Flight Group cant coincide to meet 4 of their 6 players to play a mission they can get together with an allied Flight Group to play a mission (maximum of 2 players per Flight Group)
- Top Scores will be submitted by Squadron Leader once a week.

3. Allies vs Axis - Squadron Battles
- These would take place once every 2 weeks
- Basic Team Dogfights between enemy Flight Groups
- minimum of 3 vs 3
- we can use the 2 week break to organize and schedule challenges
- points will go towards the Squadron's Reputation but matches will be fought only between Flight Groups

4. Special Operations
- These may be Strike Mode or Capture the Airfield
- 1 Special Operations match every 2 weeks
- 5 vs 5 (one pilot from each Flight Group plus the Squadron Leader)
- Squadron Leader must be present

5. Ace Duels
- Challenge another Ace to gain popularity or to affect the enemy Squadron's Morale in case you defeat him/her (Squadron points)
- Duels must be posted by the challenger and approved by both Squadron Leaders
- number of Duels may be limited by time frame and/or quantity
- How to become an Ace? and other questions cant be answered yet as I dont have the information I need for these details

6. Points
- All of the challenges above help the overall Squadron Points which will be the main objective of this "project"
- Points are yet to be assigned

7. Squadron Leaders and Flight Group Leaders
- Wingmen report results to Flight Group Leaders
- Flight Group Leaders report results to Squadron Leaders
- Squadron Leaders report results to Me
- Said Leaders must be pilots who promise to commit to their duties for the good of the Group (Flight/Squadron/Forum Community), not necessarily because of their skill with a plane.
- This system will make my job much easier when it comes to update Leaderboards and stats
- Also, I wont end up with 100 PSN messages per day with attached results lol (really hope we can still use the screenshot option or else this will all be in vain :S )

Well, started this thread asking for ideas for a "future project" and it seems that I created one in the process lol

* Please post your thoughts and opinions, and dont worry I dont mind if nothing comes out of this thread right away because there is still PLENTY of time before the game releases I just thought we might get the little snowball to start rolling

It was nice saying hi, by the way

Mr Edam, Nice to have you back! Are you still flying under Edal86? I've not seen you on in an age!

Some great ideas there, as always - and I think once we know a little more about the features of the game, it will become easier to prepare things like this. I'm all up for helping, by the way!

I can't think of anything right now, however after I get a couple of reviews done - I'll be thinking for you. I also need to get onto Gaijin and Konami for a little something I have in mind

The PS3 players (at least on the forums) out number us humble 360 players by quite a big margin, so if we did anything like this i think we may have to make it smaller.

Your ideas are great though, it gets the imagination going somewhat.

Ideally i'd like to know exactly what the co op in the game etc is like and then take it from there. I have full faith in Gaijen to pull it off though

Great Idea, I agree, you can count with me.

Please, no map, limited ammo and fuel, and only cockpit in the rules... it is more realistic

Hicks presented to Beaufighters Squadron
... or Zero Squadron, or Mustang Squadron, etc, etc... jejejejejej

If we are taking dibbs on squadrons.....

Can i please put my name forward for the Hurricane squadron?

Assuming they are in the game. Failing that then i'll gladly take any RAF or commonwealth squadron, preferably something that involves ground pounding -

De Havilland Mosquito
Avro Lancaster
Bristol Blenhiem

Hurricane first and foremost though please

Many thanks boss.

Foz, I think there will be more than enough people to do a xbox Leaderboard paralell to a PS3 one. Remember when BoP was new there were a couple of xbox squadrons that were simarlar in size to the PS3 V.A.S. Its just nothing was ever done with them. The excelent stuff that Edal86 and co. organised started after the PS3 patch and that brought in more PS3 players to this forum. Obviously this was the complete opposite for the forum people on 360 with many people disapearing from this forum feeling angry and with resentment towards the developers/publishers (including the squadron creators), leaving just us diehard BoP fans.

Birds of steel will be a chance for a brand new start. Our comunity will gain new people from both consoles through interest in the new game. Our job will be to keep interest high once the game is released, with forum competions and leaderboards like this.

it would be nice to have the opportunity to fly as FGs and SQs....especially if you can skin the planes in like manner. i have 3 skins i had made up just aching to fly. more than anything i am hoping this game lives up to most of the expectations we have already dreamt up.

Gilly,
sorry but I checked your link and could not find what you meant about MAC posting something alike. Can you please post direct link. It was very useful in answering some questions I had regarding plane skins thanks

** Also, in time I think it would be necessary to transfer this thread to the official Birds of Steel Forum but for now I'd rather have it here

Hicks-81,
Some of us would prefer hardcore settings but others are not really ready for them, so I dont know yet what the settings will be as my intention is to get the entire community to participate. Back when Ace of Aces Tournament was running Mac suggested the idea to create a tournament that included Arcade, Realistic, and SIM. I am trying to see if I can make this idea work without mixing the difficulty settings.

About Squadrons,
I dont know if its a good idea to start creating them yet, because like before some will not show up once the game is released This is why there will be a Reserves Flight for each squadron, this is where new pilots will start once Squadrons are created. Also, this is where Flight Group deserters will end up if they fail to participate in matches or where "traitors" will want to go if they have a change of heart (those who want to change Squadron Teams). Flight Leaders will have the power to boot wingmen that dont participate if it is approved by the Squadron Leader. If a Squadron Leader or Flight leader fails to do their job then they also could be voted out by team members and a new leader must be voted in.

Nothing is for certain yet, Im just throwing out ideas.
