Unhappy TOW control problems

Hello,

I have a Steam version of TOW that seems to almost be unplayable (at least to me) at the moment.

I am like on level 3 right now and my troops are almost uncontrollable.
In other words I tell them what to do.., but they pretty much do what THEY want to do...
ie. in shootout with a few Romanian soldiers they get up and run, charge the MG nest that shoots them all down... I cant even spend any time on strategy as I am trying to keep them from doing stupid things that get them killed.

I played the original MOW without any issues like that.

Am I missing a setting or something somewhere?

If I have them on Hold then they wont even return fire.
I cant just have them laying down shooting at whatever is in their range.

(Yeah, I just tested this on my work's PC.)

Sorry, I thought by your comment your soldiers were not obeying your commands. Would make the game very frustrating.
