I think IL-2 had some expectations on it but it really was a surprise how good it really was (sense of speed/flight) compared to other sims at the time. Therefore I think we had extremely high expectations this time around BUT plz have a look at the reviews of IL-2 Sturmovik 1.0 and compare them to the CloD reviews so far. Example below, two different reviewers yes but still:

IL-2 Sturmovik 1.0

To refresh some memories of what some of the Il-2 patches did.

Patch 1.22

http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/app/answ...es-v1.22-patch

Patch 1.04

On April 13th Ubisoft released the latest version of IL-2 Sturmovik. The “patch,” while fixing some bugs, was virtually an upgrade, adding three new flyable aircraft and adding many desired features.

The patch was released in two parts, both around 30MB. The first part includes all the fixes and new features, and the second part (104a) is intended to address the stutter problem for those who had it.

The new aircraft are the BI-1 Soviet rocket fighter, the P.Z.L. P.11c Polish fighter and the Bf 109 F-4.

Key improvements or additions include:

* A more realistic flaps deployment behavior.
* Reworked flight models
* A Full Mission Builder feature restricting available planes in dogfight games
* An integrated FPS meter
* A server console command to define plane icons visibility and other options
* A new ‘Toggle Icon Types’ control command can be used to cycle icon options to simplify or remove them
* Padlock target selection and cycling procedures are improved
* Padlock distance increased to 5km and the marker is drawn even with icons off
* Added wing guns non-synchronization and nose cannons barrel vibration
* Increased airfield visibility distance to 16 km.
* Included new switch of difficulty settings “No Map Icons”

IL-2 Sturmovik and subsequent games in the series have received overall good reviews. The review aggregator Metacritic gives IL-2 Sturmovik a score of 91 out of 100,[7] while GameRankings, another review aggregator, gives a score of 91.31%.[8]

* Gamespot rated IL-2 Sturmovik at 9.1 out of 10.[9]

* IGN called the game "impressive" and gave a rating of 8.3 out of 10.[10]

* Igromania rated IL-2: Sturmovik at 10 out of 10[11]

* Meristation rated IL-2: Sturmovik at 10 out of 10[12]

I see lots of posts across the CoD forums using the term "patches".

A patch is an official, non-beta release. Since CoD was released in Russia and Europe there has been only 1, official patch that was delivered over steam.

There have been 5 beta versions released - 1 for the RU version and 4 since the English version was released.

The beta versions are intended for community testing, and in some sim communities this situation works pretty well. No small developer can have all examples of O/S's - video cards and CPU's - therefore it usually benefits progress to release in this manner.

So, there's only been 1 patch since release - the rest have been beta's.

S!

I can say that today, for my taste of FS. And I fly in FS since ZX81... WWII air combat, great FM, great graphics. The evolution of IL-2 series.

Just need some polishing and we are ready to go to next scenario. I'm having a lot of fun just now.

For giggles I installed the original IL2 from its CD the other day without updating it.
Two observations:
1- it's come a long way, baby...
2- it WAS playable out of the box, took some getting used to after CFS, but totally playable with all its core functionalities implemented. So in that respect, head and shoulders above CloD release (from what I've read, I haven't upgraded my old rig.

That said, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the 1C team are going to get CloD up to scratch in the near-future; most likely prior to the North American release. I think they are ACUTELY aware that if the major bugs (commands/communications being the most salient) which remain are not squashed by that date they are going to be mauled in reviews.

I think the Jedi's patients just need a little more patience, and should give 1C a bit of leeway based on past support experience over the last DECADE
